    Re: Metallicarl's "Who's Number One?" All-time PS3 Roster

Those really old school teams mentioned from the 50', 60's and possibly 70's I've always felt would make a perfect situation to really utilize scaled back ratings in terms of speed, agilit and acceleration...

I'm talking max speed only up to about 80-85 for the fastest players

There's so many ways to devise rosters and ratings in this game based on what your looking for out the specific sets of rosters..

For example lets say you wanted to stick a all 60's file you could set guidlines that know QB would a accuarcy or throw power rating higher than 70.....

I've seen some outstanding variety in throws using similiar QB's on the Alumni files that have had low throw power and accuarcy just from testing.

I've always felt like that if guys like you and tcoaker along with myself ever had that ability to join forces one file for one system we could make the absolute legendary classic roster file....

It's a shame EA doesn't allow these things to be converted and used accross all platforms universal since we are all playing the same game at the end of the day.....

I woudl hope in the future of gamming before that becomes possible at some point down the road for these companies but by then I'd probbaly already had retired my systems and controllers LOL!

I agree with the scaled back rosters, I tried to do that on this roster project, making the pre-1980 teams slower and weaker and dropping the throw accuracy. But the playbooks that come with the game really limit what you can do...a lot of the older QB's that completed around 40-50% of thier passes will complete 70% depending on the playbook. There is only so low you can go with QB ratings before they cant throw 10 yards down field. But I will still like to try something...totally agree on the systems though. Would be awesome to put one together with you guys. I've done many different rosters and I think I have used a different rating system each time, love to be able to do that with the game. My biggest problem with the pre-1966 teams is that most players played both ways and there were only around 50 guys on a roster. My work around would be creating an offensive and defensive version of the two way players so you wouldnt have low awareness when they switched sides of the ball, and you wouldn't have to have a CB#11 or a made up name....I would like to take a break from working on rosters for a few months, but if you guys keep talking about it I might start getting the itch again

        Hey Carl,

I understand about the limitations of playbooks. I have wondered about getting around that to an extent by making slider adjustments. For example, if you make the QB accuracy slider low--such as "5"--it may do a lot, in interaction with QB ratings, to lower the pass completion percentage.

I think above all -if you decide to do the real old time roster-everyone just has to realize that there is not the wealth of data we have for players today. Subjedctive ratings will have to take the place of some of the stats that we simply don't have. However, even with these compromises I think the final product would be fantastic. In a way it reminds of a old baseballl board game I had. With modern teams stats were available for lefty/rightly hitting and pitching matchups. With "old timers" they lacked the stats--but their subjective ratings seemed fine.

I suspect all would have no compalints when they were actually able to match up some of the storied games of the past. I still recall as a child(very young child) seeing my Dad and Uncle listening over the radio to the LSU-Ole Miss game in which Billy Cannon made his great punt return. The reception was terrible but that added to the mystique of something very epic happenign ---a very long way off. It always seemed to me that that sort of "magic", "mystery" and "class" is something the old time teams had much more than any of the more modern renditions.

Put another way---if anyone could do this it would be you!

I think I could make a decent roster with general ratings for most players and rate the stars pretty accurately...we'll see. Really wanting to play some games though. Finally got my hands on Playmaker's and actually played a game for the first time in a year maybe. Just been doing CPU vs CPU, but really want to play a season and control some teams. Used N.C. State vs ECU and threw 2 picks in the first quarter and trailed 7-0. Cant remember when I played a team that was challenging like that. Love the story about listening to the games on the radio...I really do believe that was part of the magic of that era to me. We traveled a lot on weekends when I was a kid(mid 70's) and remember listening to ACC games and trying to imagine what the players and uniforms looked like. I also swore up until I was around 8 years old that UNC's nickname was the "Star Heels" because thats what it sounded like their play by play was saying LOL

Carl, I can relate. I remember listening to WPTF AM radio when NC State was playing, and how the radio annoucer would make the game come alive for all the listening audience. Back then, State was my favorite college football team( I didn't know any better...lol) Remembering the Buckey twins (Dave and Don), and players like Willie Burton, Stan Fritts....oh! the good ole days.lol

I've been an NC State fan since around that time.....can remember when Lou Holtz was still coach. I created the 1972 team on Teambuilder, was going to put them on this file but really wanted that 2002 team with Rivers. Even though my daughter goes to the hated UNC, I still bleed red and white. Still feel like a traitor every time I step on their campus haha!!

LOL, I like your daughters choice of schools. Got a question just out of curiosity...Do you have any idea when you will be done with playmakers alumni roster?

Hey you cant just switch from being a NC State fan to a UNC fan, that's not allowed LOL I dont have any time table for Working on Playmaker's. Just been adding a few players when I have a few minutes.... but I really want the players to fit in with how he rated the rest of the roster...so it will probably take a long time matching up similar players.

Someone just requested that I put my 1978 file up also, so I'm going to upload it for a few days and then I'll change it to this roster. I'll post here when it's up unless someone else has it already uploaded. This is for PS3 and my id is "OldschoolCarl"
