    online lag...killing me

    Hi guys.

Mt general online play is quite laggy. Approximately a good second or two delay between button press and game. It is terrible.

My Internet speeds and ping are decent.

    DL- 95MB
    UL - 38MB
    PING - 2 MS

I'd assume that based on the above it should not be as laggy as it has been.

I have a NAT 2 in the ps4 test connection page and have unchecked UPNP.

My connection is wired and whilst playing online I do not have any other equipment accessing the Internet.

Playing on a new tv? Could be your tv, change it to game mode setting if you have it, and see if that makes a difference.

Had a game earlier and seemed like a very small improvement. Probably a delay of about 1.5 seconds between button press and action on the screen.

You want NAT 1 for the best experience as it's all open.

NAT 1 is only if he's going directly into a modem,if he's going into a router then NAT 2 is the best you can get....IIRC.

Yeah. It's been annoying me. Short of buying a new router not sure what else to do.

Just a couple of obvious things you could try/check...

                1-complete power down and restart.
2-check your routers UpNp settings and make sure that's ticked
3-firmware up to date on router

Those are the 3 steps I go through when something gets "screwy" and it usually turns out that #1 usually fixes the issue.

Along with that (And what I did) is set up a static IP for PS4 and put in DMZ zone.
PS4 will be Nat 2 but in games(IF I'm right) it's open as can be....
                  Either way I've been golden..
Hope the OP gets some good results.

I agree. DMZ Sounds like the solution to this problem. Easy as pie and has worked for me for YEARS

If I put it into DMZ, could other members within the family still access the internet?

I am certain when my wife is how she will likely be doing some facebook crap and other internet usage. I will put into DMZ tomorrow, trying to do everything before I go out and buy a new router, seems like a waste of money otherwise.

Doesn't affect anything else. My daughters and wife were always streaming YT or Netflix with no issues.

Just wanted to say thank you guys so much.

I couldn't play online for such a long time due to the horrible lag I was experiencing. Presently it does lag but it is ever so slightly. Not at the same level as playing offline but not far off.

I was heaps into the online pc leagues back in the day. I had a terrible connection back then and it still played smoother than what I currently experienced on my optic fibre connection lol.

I'm playing from Australia. Might be the reason I am have that ever so slight delay now. It's literally less than a second delay which is decent.

Played 4 games online and it was good.

                          Thanks again !

Another solution that works wonders is to hop on Amazon and search for "home plugs." For about 30-40 bucks.

One plugs into your modem/router and a wall socket. The other plugs into your Xbox/ps4 and a wall socket.

Your ps4 will then think it has a wired connection. Your internet will be much faster.
