Why does the rim/net look and feel so off??
I just can't get over how the rim and net don't look and feel right on next gen. Yes, im picky but that changes the feel and look of basketball in a videogame that is supposed to replicate the true sport. For instance look at how the net and rim looks and reacts in NBA 2k12 and highlights of real NBA compared to how 2k16 looks. Next gen should look more realistic, feel more realistic and not cartoony. The rim doesn't really look like the right color and the net looks odd. I do like the looks of other things in this game but I don't understand why this this should go so unnoticed.Tags: None -

Personally from what I've seen, I think the rim/net are better in 2K16 than they were in 2K15.
How the net animates is important to me and I think it's solid from what I've seen.
The rim physics also look better in 2K16 aswell.
Sounds are a different story...... but can't say I agree with you on this one man. -

The rim/net and animations look better this year, but wont be able to tell until we all play the game.Comment

Re: Why does the rim/net look and feel so off??
The key to this is, 2K have nailed the net physics. At no point does the ball clip through the net (I've done pause/zooms and haven't seen it once.....yet) and if the ball pushes through the net at one point, it's pulled from another point so at no time does it expand beyond it's physical capacity.
Although this sounds complex (and a lot of words) it's actually quite simple and it just comes down to 2K having solid net physics.Comment

Re: Why does the rim/net look and feel so off??
I don't know if it'll different based on build, or arena lighting, or whatever other variables, but the rim appears much too dark and red. I feel like the next gen rim has been a little off in this regard since at least 2K15 but with such limited play time with next gen games, I cannot say with any sort of certainty.
Bonus: That Green dunk illustrates the different sort of flex NBA rims have had on dunks from the side since about 2013. The opposite side will now actually bend upward a little bit to absorb the force of the dunk. I do not think I've seen that accurately depicted in 2K (just the standard breakaway bending forward) but I haven't been too broken up about it.Last edited by VDusen04; 09-18-2015, 10:07 AM.Comment

I think if they nailed the "flick" effect it would add to the breakaway effect. And maybe it would trigger them to look at the sounds at the same time (a rim flick has a distinct sound to it which would be hard to ignore at the same time)........
Of course, all this is based on what I THINK I've seen and speculation around it.
All in all, I think 2K16 has improved it over years past...... I don't feel it's there yet, but its moving in the right direction (as they always seem to do).....Comment

Re: Why does the rim/net look and feel so off??
On the PC version of 2K, I can download mod files that alter the net physics, that's actually my first thing I do after installing the game every year, 2K's net always sucks in terms of it looks like a thin fishnet, like tooth floss string instead of thick solid cotton/nylon strings, and the physics are bad as the net moves way too much even on light easy layups
But on the subject as well, keep in mind different arenas use different length nets, but the rims are always the exact same orange-ish...
I have no idea why some arenas use noticeably longer nets, while others use standard size.... for example the Toronto Raptors use one of the longest nets in comparison to other arenas, easily 2 inches or more longer than most of the other more standard nets.
I've been to numerous games seen it in real life, and also it's easily noticeable on TV as wellLast edited by ChrisCP3Paul; 09-18-2015, 10:55 PM.Comment
