Re: Rally Sons of Notre Dame - Jrex's ND Dynasty

Yeah, VT looked good. I always want them to do good in my dynasties, but they always seem to fade after a year or two. Maybe this time will be different.

Thank you! I'm already thinking about how to tweak it haha

          Week 2 2013 (Season 1) ND Recap

Turnovers Plague Irish in The Big House

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Notre Dame came into The Big House as two score underdogs, yet by the start of the fourth quarter only trailed by 6 and had possession. Then the turnover bug hit. The Irish turned the ball over three times in the final quarter and Michigan took advantage by extending their lead with every change of possession.

From the start, the Wolverines looked the better team and an easy victory seemed likely leading 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Then Notre Dame settled into a rhythm on both offense and defense, scoring on their first possession of the second quarter and stopping Michigan on their ensuing drive. However, the Irish fumbled the punt and Michigan proceeded to put 10 more on Coach Bax's Irish before the half.

Trailing 20-7 to start the second half, Notre Dame came out much more aggressive and were able to put up 14 points and only give up 7 in the third quarter. The offense was boosted by a number of fourth down conversions to keep drives alive and keep the defense rested.

Then in the fourth as previously mentioned, Notre Dame turned the ball over three times (1 fumble and 2 interceptions) and the Wolverines scored after each one. The final score was 39-21.

When asked about his teams performance after the game Coach Bax had this to say. "I'm very proud of our boys coming into this raucous environment as such underdogs and going out and playing their hears out. We beat ourselves today and both teams know it. We fell behind early, but settled down and scraped our way back into the game only to lose it in the final quarter. Michigan is a very good team, but this being their first game of the season they weren't quite up to speed and we took advantage of that with aggressive play calling. I know our boys are wishing they could have the fourth quarter back, but this is part of the game and you can't beat yourself. We will go out next week and face another rival in Purdue. Hopefully we can get a win in front of our home crowd and get the season back on track."

Irish Get First Win of Season Against Rival Purdue

SOUTH BEND< Ind. - Notre Dame got the first win of Head Coach John Bax's career against rival Purdue at home Saturday. Both teams came into the game looking for a win that might propel them going forward, but it was Irish that finished with their noses in front.

Both teams came into the match-up with successful passing attacks. Purdue's was by design in their Air Raid offense, Notre Dame's was out of need from trailing for most of it's first two games. The trend continued again as Purdue attempted 47 passes to the Irish's 45. Both teams ended the day with over 400 passing yards.

The Irish knew this was a must win game as their vaunted schedule will only get harder, so once again Coach Bax was aggressive in his play calling. "We ran a lot of blitzes today and pressured their QB pretty good, unfortunately that left us vulnerable to the big pass plays", said the Head Coach after the game.

Notre Dame finally played mistake free football with zero penalties and zero turnovers. Despite this they were still behind for much of the game as Purdue's passing attack was on point completing many short routes before the Irish pass rush could get to Purdue QB Andrew Thornton.

Up next for the Irish is a third straight Big Ten rivalry game against 2-1 Michigan State in South Bend. The Irish will once again look to control the time of possession and up their running attack to keep the opposition's offense off the field.

                    Notre Dame Smashed by Spartans

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - This was the first game under Head Coach John Bax where Notre Dame just got out played in every facet of the game. The Irish couldn't move the ball and struggled to stop Michigan State's talented offense.

The start of them game went exactly to script for Notre Dame, scoring a touchdown on their opening drive and holding MSU to only a FG on their first drive. The Irish were up 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. If only the game had ended there...

The Spartans racked up 20 points in the second quarter and didn't allow Notre Dame to score once. From then on the mountain was just too tall for Coach Bax's team, and the Irish fell to 1-3 on the season.

Notre Dame didn't give up the fight, but they were just outclassed. Coach Bax will certainly be hitting the recruiting trail hard to try and bring some new (hopefully athletic) blood to the team. Speaking of recruiting, it is believed that the Irish might get a signing or two as early as next week.

Up next for the Irish will be a trip to top 10 Oklahoma. The Sooners will surely be favored by double-digits after this performance.

                            Underdog Irish Leave Norman Victorious!

NORMAN, Okla. - The Irish came into Norman as huge 2 score underdogs and left with their second win of the season and gave #7 ranked Sooners their first loss.

Notre Dame came into Saturday's contest knowing that they needed a big statement win to show that this year wasn't a bust. They got just that when the final whistle blew. The Irish fought hard all four quarters and through aggressive play calls on both sides of the ball were able to dictate the pace of the game. Their offense was able to move the ball in small chunks down the field. They didn't let fourth down stop them, going for it 6 times and converting 5 of those. The defense was able to rest and then when they were called on, they blitzed all day (Remember the Titans Defensive Strategy).

Oklahoma had the superior team on paper, but they seemed to be over looking the Irish. Perhaps next weeks Big 12 opener against TCU was distracting the Sooners, or maybe the rain storm, whatever it was, the Oklahoma offense was not prepared for the aggressive defense that the Irish brought with them. Notre Dame recorded 4 sacks in the game and should have had a pair of Ints if not for the wet ball conditions.

First Year Head Coach John Bax had this to say after the win, "I'm proud of our boys. We told them that we had one shoot of winning this game, and it was to get aggressive and never give up. They did just that today!"

The Irish now sit at 2-3 on the year and will match-up against three more ranked teams in a row, starting with Texas A&M in Arlington.

Many wondered if Coach Bax's seat was starting to warm up after the 1-3 start to the year and the Notre Dame AD denied any claims saying that they were going to give Coach Bax time to build the team. After this win over a top 10 team on the road, I would be surprised if Coach Bax's seat got very warm at all this first year.

                                Irish Take Another Thumping

ARLINGTON, Tex. - Texas A&M took note of what happened lat week in Norman, Oklahoma when the Irish upset the #7 Sooners. The Aggies were not going to fall victim to the aggressive Irish attack. Instead they stayed composed and moved the ball effortlessly up and down the field. The Irish had no answer for the Aggies offense, giving up 215 yards on the ground as well as 372 through the air.

Notre Dame Head Coach John Bax didn't have much to say after the loss. "I am disappointed that the team appears to have taken a step back after the win last week. They looked good all week in practice and the coaching staff and myself really thought they were turning a corner. I guess it is back to the drawing board."

The Irish loss had an eerily similar feel to the Michigan State loss a few weeks ago. Notre Dame was unable to get much of anything going offensively and defensively couldn't get the Aggies off the field.

Notre Dame now heads into a bye week with plenty of time to reflect on what went wrong and what to work on when #15 USC comes to town.
