    Rosters question concerning PS3/360

I must have missed recent developments in the NHL series. Or nobody's playing it anymore? I get that the PS4/XBOX1 versions don't let you share rosters anymore (wow, does that suck) but...

    1. Am I the only one playing Legacy this year on PS3?? I'm actually a bit surprised. I don't get this whole insistence on staying on NHL15 or older. I have to have the new schedule and even if its only a few new players, I've gotta have those too. So, I figure I must be missing something.
    2. Is anyone going to be making rosters for NHL16 on PS3?

I like hockey too much and like playing NHL too much to bother with what you should and shouldn't get for the money. In my eyes, after playing every year since '93 and remembering the limitations we had back then, I just couldn't care less about starting a rant war about what EA does and doesn't owe us. I just wanna play and have fun. Anyone with me?

If anyone can help me understand my questions, I'd appreciate it.

    Rosters question concerning PS3/360

I am playing Legacy on the PS3 [emoji51] I even did a roster with the lines updated from Dailyfaceoff as of last sunday, I created 11 players, among them: Eichel, Hanifin, Plotnikov, Kalinin, Nilsson, Medvedev, Larkin...relocated McDavid from OHL to Edmonton, etc....Two things: first I think the rosters are now restricted, you have to do the "resign" thingy... which I don't have a clue...second:: as the puck dropped wednesday, I realized that the lines from sunday in the Dailyfaceoff.com where some how different from the real thing on wednesday...so I'm waiting for the second official EA Update of the opening day rosters...which I think should be out next week...If you still interested in my roster file, I'll be glad to post it...[emoji4]

Well, yes, they would naturally have been different because on Sunday, daily faceoff had no way of knowing what all the coaches were going to do. So, it's not usually worth it to set lineups until a few games have passed, and even then some times will switch lines around for weeks. Best thing to do is just set the most used players from the first week or so. Unless you're going to change every team, every game and continue that ALL season, you'll never be accurate anyway. It's very rare for any team to use exactly the same lineups in every game anyway.

I'd love to take a look at your roster set. How did you create those players? What resources did you use?

        Rosters question concerning PS3/360

You're right,...not much case in trying to replicate sunday before opening day rosters...I understood that when I had 2 or 3 teams to go...so I finished the roster that way anyway[emoji16] I realized it's not very funny playing as the Red Wings without Datsyuk[emoji51]., just to name a case...
Now, to create those players first I checked out NHL15 or 14 to see if they were there, of course trying to update their ratings, but that was a good place to start in a couple of cases...then player bios in websites like eliteprospects, or hockeyfuture,...for the general data like weight, height and birthplace well that is found in any general wiki site, and also for ratings, specially from KHL players I even watch a couple of videos,....for Eichel I followed a thread from Operation Sports about creating him in NHL14 I think....of course all these tools are not 100% accurate to rate a player, but again the best way to rate a player is to know the player, [emoji14]and specially those from the KHL were very difficult to track...but well I created them anyway...Tomorrow I will post those rosters. hoping they are useful....Night!

Looking forward to it. Apparently the new NHLViewNG is close to being ready which will help to set the rosters faster but I think by then, I'll have started my season already. I've never successfully been able to edit rosters within a Season file with NHLView despite following all the instructions listed around here.

Well, this is the file matching the lines posted on dailyfaceoff.com last sunday, the file it's not resigned, If somebody could do this, feel free then to edit, update, rerate...etc..

It's a file based on the EA first official roster update from the 23 of September, Made a ton of AHL/OHL to NHL moves and checking my notes the 11 players I created were:

Jack Eichel (Buff), Sergei Plotnikov (Pitt), Sergey Kalinin (NJD), Noah Hanifin (Car), Artemi Panarin (Chi), Jakub Nakladal (Calg), Kyle Baun (Chi), Anders Nilsson (Edm), Dylan Larkin (Det), Anton Slepyshev (Edm) and Yevgeni Medvedev (Phi).

Hope you find this file useful someway...

Will EA come out with their own roster update, like before? They've had a couple so far, but nothing since the season has started. Maybe they are waiting for all the teams to complete their first game. Anyone know?

EDIT: This is for NHL Legacy on PS3.

Players can't be put in the video game until they play in an NHL game. I imagine EA is waiting until everyone plays to release the new roster.

Listen, just the fact that you made 11 players using THAT degree of research is much more than I could have done. After fixing/setting/updating rosters for about 20 years in sports games, what I'm good at is taking the game's rosters, setting them to be a good representation of real rosters and learning the mechanics of how to move players around in different games with the tools they offer. But CREATING players from scratch that I've never heard of has never been easy for me, I just don't pay attention enought to non-pro sports. I'm always amazed by these people that can know all these young players just as well as they know the pros. I guess I just don't have the time or interest to follow farm teams, colleges, second division leagues, etc.

This also all depends on how you play the game. There are people that play sports games as a total fantasy league complete with drafts, trades, injuries, allowing the CPU to create new rookies every year, and that's fine. I used to, until last year, set opening day rosters in NHL, MLB, FIFA, NFL games and then adjust the rosters every month and I just had to stop because I was actually finding myself not playing the game which is the whole point! I wrote a blog post about it if you're interested.

Anyway, for MY purposes, the EA roster with your AHL/NHL moves and a handful of new players is better than where I would have started so I'll try yours and then adjust the lines sometime middle of next week to reflect what each team is more or less starting with this year. Even then, I'll have to remember how NHL handles lines being reset when you start a season. I never remember what they do, if you end up having to reset them all after the season starts, etc like in The Show. I'll have to play with it a bit to refresh my bad memory.

Thanks for the file, though, Benglez!

Just read your blog, and I'm glad I've found my soul mate. My friends have been questioning my relationship to NHL video games for those same reasons. This quote couldn't be more right for me as well:

Seeing guys on teams they’re not supposed to be on drives me nuts.
That's why I can't play any season or career modes. I was invited to start a GM Connected league a year ago, and my friends were scratching their head when I said I would hate to join it. I don't mind playing against messed up lines, but the players should at least be in their correct teams, and my lines should be 100% accurate.

I bolded that one sentence in your last post. To me, editing the rosters is the most fun part of the game. When EA stopped making the game for PC, I kept playing NHL 09 for one simple reason - the NG games weren't editable. I only bought PS3 after Artem got his NHL View out for NHL 14. Now that I've had Legacy for a month, I've only played 2 or 3 games with it. It's just too much work to keep the rosters up-to-date without NHL View, and just playing the game while ignoring the accuracy of lines takes the 'fun' part out of the game. I just don't enjoy playing the game with outdated or false rosters. And I'm perfectly okay with it.

So in response to your bolded comment, like you said, it all depends how you play the game, but actually playing the game is not the whole point, not to everyone.

About the roster making, I released my "own" rosters last season. I don't like editing the attributes, since I don't feel qualified for that (except for Faceoff-attributes, since they are purely statistical). At the start of the season, I found myself updating the lineups for every night, but since I found it too time consuming, I started to do it monthly. Still, I checked every line combo for every team for every game of the season.

And I loved to do it.

I am the same way i like my seasons to be accurate.....i prefer to play gm mode but wish there was a way to force some of the trades that happen in the real NHL......so i end up starting a new gm mode season every time there are a few big trades in the real NHL. I wish artem could figure out how to make NHL view be able to edit actual season saves.

You know, having played on the 360 until NHL15, I don't think I've ever taken a file from someone else. I keep getting that the file is corrupted when I bring it to my PS3. How do you get a file from someone else and use it on your console? Can't figure it out?

                          Well, I think, from
what I read in other sports roster forums, that recent files (maybe since 2013) are somehow restricted, you have to run a process they call "resign the file" in a external program, and only then you can put it in another PS3 the usual way, honestly, I"ve had no chance to checkout all that "resign" concept...hope somebody has the time to do it with this file...Now, one more thing, somebody asked me to check out PetrPuck website, well, from what I saw, this guy has much more accurate ratings for new players that are not in the game than mine, and it's been doing it for years...he created 10 out of the 11 players I did, so I'm reposting the file tonight, with his take on those new players ratings...

Where'd you hear this?? I'd love to wait until NHLView comes out to edit contracts and unsigned prospects rights but I am ready to start my BAGM and don't know how long I can wait haha.
