Should be a very doable game against Arkansas. That being said, it is college football and SEC football at that so no game can be taken lightly. I am thinking we will see Ryan Jean put up some gaudy numbers in this one. There is not a cornerback on that roster that will be able to contain him. That free safety of theirs is going to be a force to be reckoned with as an upperclassman though. Good luck!

Yeah I like our matchups in this one and you're right, Jean should put up some nice totals.

That tight end of theirs looks nice. I'd say on paper, they don't look like a 6-4 team. They have the pieces in place to make a game out of this one, especially since they're at home.

        Should be a good one!

Game 10, Year 10 (2019 season): #1 Tulane Green Wave at Arkansas Razorbacks

          #1 27 -- 9-1 (6-1)
          NR 62 -- 7-4 (3-4)

TOP ROW: Arkansas QB Tyler Martin's 15-yard touchdown pass to WR Greg Tucker in the corner of the end zone gave the Razorbacks a commanding 24-0 second quarter lead. | BOTTOM ROW: QB Preston Fields was hit as he threw and his pass fell into the waiting arms of Razorbacks DT Mike McDaniel who rumbled his way to an 11-yard touchdown that made the score 48-14 late in the third quarter and all but ended any faint hopes of a Green Wave comeback.

TULANE'S SEASON TAKES AN UNEXPECTED SUDDEN TURN FOR THE WORSE AS GREEN WAVE GETS DEMOLISHED 62-27 BY UNRANKED ARKANSAS

Defending national champions have no answer to Razorbacks offense en route to worst loss of the Geezy era | QB Martin throws for 5 touchdowns and no interceptions as Pig Sooie rolls, halting Tulane's 40-game regular season win streak | QB Jimmy Williams gets inserted in the second quarter in place of struggling Fields but re-injures his pectoral | Wave's hopes for a third national title in four seasons basically done, but team can still clinch SEC West division title with home win next week versus Ole Miss

Fayetville, AR -- Four seasons ago, Tulane visited Fayetville as the #1 team in the nation, with an opportunity to host the BCS National Championship Game at its own home stadium with just a few more wins. But just like the last time, that destiny was unfulfilled as #1 Tulane ran into an absolute buzz saw on Saturday night, falling in embarrassing fashion 62-27 to Arkansas at frigid Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. In a game in which it seemed nothing could go right for the Wave, the unranked Razorbacks scored 31 straight points to open the game and never looked back.

Tulane turned the ball over on each of its first two possessions, and that set the tone for the entire evening. On the first drive of the game, QB Preston Fields missed a wide open Ryan Jean on a short third down slant pattern and the badly sailed pass ended up in the hands of Razorbacks FS Mike Johnson. The Razorbacks would end up cashing in the turnover with a field goal to take an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter.

Razorbacks RB Fred Ward ran through the Green Wave defense all day and finished with 225 all-purpose yards and one touchdown.
Green Wave RB B.J. Johnson would fumble on the team's next offensive possession and once again Arkansas took advantage. This time Razorbacks QB Tyler Martin would find WR Yusef Greer for a 1-yard touchdown on 4th and goal, making the score 10-0 very early in the second quarter.

From there Arkansas' momentum would never falter as Martin would throw two more touchdown passes in the second quarter and RB Mike Smith would take a handoff 7 yards for another score, giving Arkansas a virtually insurmountable 31-0 lead before halftime.

"We just came out looking extremely unprepared and that's on me," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"They got the early momentum and quite frankly I thought the cold weather made us soft. There were moments where our guys looked afraid to get hit and like we didn't want to be out there. I am embarrassed."

Tulane was unable to move the ball until late in the second quarter. Following Fields' second interception of the game and his apparent inability to move the ball, Geezy inserted former starting QB Jimmy Williams into the lineup. Williams, a redshirt freshman and the team's starter at the beginning of the season until he tore his pectoral muscle in the Wave's week 2 win versus Northwestern, came in and used both his arms and his legs to direct an 8-play drive that got all the way to the Razorbacks 7-yard line. However disaster struck as Williams re-aggravated his pectoral injury on the drive and was forced to sit out the remainder of the game. His status for next week is unknown, however Geezy indicated after the game that Williams will be considered "day to day" and the team will give an update on his availability as well as any potential lineup changes later this week.

Shown here disgusted after throwing a pick-six, redshirt senior QB Preston Fields may have very well put his spot in Tulane's starting lineup in jeopardy, finishing the day with a season-high 4 interceptions.

Fields would return for the final play of the drive Williams directed and completed a 7-yard scoring toss to Jean that made the score 31-7 with just 0:16 to go in the half.

Following a Arkansas field goal on the first possession of the second half to extend the Razorback lead to 34-7, Fields and Jean would hook up again. This time the pair connected on a 27-yard hookup that made the score 34-14 midway through the third, giving Tulane a brief glimmer of hope for a miracle comeback. Jean was virtually the Green Wave's only bright spot on the night, finishing the contest with a game-high 8 receptions for 185 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Any chance of a Tulane comeback would quickly be thwarted by the Razorbacks on their next drive. Led by the rushing and receiving of RB Fred Ward, the Razorbacks took their next possession on a long 10-play drive that culminated with a 10-yard touchdown via a screen pass from Martin to Ward that made the score 41-14.

"We just could not get off the ****ing field today," said Tulane senior defensive assistant Steve Ellis.

Things would then quickly snowball for the Wave. On Tulane's next possession following Ward's score, facing a third and long backed up deep in his own territory, Fields would throw an ill-advised pass while being hit and Arkansas DT Mike McDaniel, in coverage on a zone-blitz play, intercepted the pass and returned it 11 yards for a touchdown that made the score 48-14 with 0:26 to go in the third quarter.

Trip Down Memory Lane: Tulane's last visit to Fayetville as the #1 team in the nation fell short in a snowy 38-37 overtime thriller in 2015. Former Green Wave star RB Reggie Moore (above) was tackled at the one-yard line on the game's final play, which was a two-point conversion attempt, and the loss cost the Wave a shot at its first national championship game appearance four seasons ago.
Following a very quick turnover on downs on Tulane's next possession, Martin connected with WR Michael Davis for a 5-yard Arkansas touchdown pass that made the score 55-14 early in the fourth quarter.

Arkansas (7-4, 3-4) would deliver its final blow later in the fourth quarter as Fields threw his second pick-six of the game and his fourth interception overall, this one to OLB John Morton, who returned it 27 yards for a touchdown, making the score 62-20 with 3:59 to go in the game. Arkansas' 62 points is the most points ever given up by the Wave under Geezy, eclipsing the previous high of 56.

"We clearly got caught sleeping at the wheel today," said Geezy.

"Coming off our string of big wins, especially last week's versus Alabama, I think we became victims of our own success and maybe read too many of our own press clippings. As Bill Parcells once said, 'we ate the cheese,' and it has cost us dearly."

Fayetville has been a house of horrors for the Wave, losing there for the second straight time when visiting as the #1 team in the nation and with a chance to host its own BCS Championship Game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with a few more wins. The team lost there late in the 2015 season when Geezy elected to go for a two point conversion in overtime after scoring a touchdown. The conversion run attempt by former Wave RB Reggie Moore got stopped at the one-yard line, giving his team their first loss and costing them a chance at going to the first BCS National Championship Game in school history. Instead, the team ended up playing in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, a disappointing fate they will likely now face again.

Tulane (9-1, 6-1) is now all but eliminated from national title contention. The team will face Ole Miss (2-7, 2-4) next week at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and can clinch the SEC West division title with a win. Should they fall to the Rebels, Alabama (10-1, 7-1) will win the division and the accompanying spot in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

Did not see that coming... but as you mentioned, it is the classic let-down after a big win. I love seeing all the dynasty records set - well, I don't love seeing all the negative records like largest margin of defeat, but it's good to have a little history to see the significance. Seems like the Hogs have had your number when you've been #1.

Still lots of football to be played though, at least #1 or #2 will lose next week. We shall see if closing out the Tulane season with three more wins, including an SEC Championship re-match with Florida can get you back in the title hunt. Gonna need some help, but strange things can happen sometimes.

What in the world......wow....it was Tulane that got off the team bus right? You didn't leave them at a bar and pick up a high school team instead? That is a tough one to take my friend, but it happens to the best of teams and the best of coaches. It is just a mild setback for a major comeback. It hurts but it was really interesting to see all the records broken.

I am amazed with how badly the typically consistent and solid Fields played. Any thoughts moving forward on who you will put under center? I have to say I would give Fields another shot on a short leash but I tend to give guys more rope than most.

It is a longshot, but I actually don't think you are out of the BCS race. If you can get yourself back into the SEC championship and win out, I could see you vaulting more than a few teams ahead of you. Fingers crossed my good friend, Coach Geezy will bring them back.

Yeah I've always kind of had it in the back of my mind that if/when we finally lose a game, I'd need to do something like that. The idea entered my head I think sometime during the USC game, whenever we lost our lead in the fourth quarter. It kind of just hit me..."damn it's been a long time since I've been on the ropes like this." So I did the research (I have every season backed up on my memory card) and decided that it would be fun to report on if/when that loss finally came.

I don't think I have any chance whatsoever at getting back in the title game hunt. I'd say top 6-8 would be "pipe dream" striking distance. But #11? With at least one title game spot locked up (the OSU/Mich winner)? No chance.

Yeah man....this was just one of those games. They scored early and everything just seemed to snowball momentum-wise and we just could not recover.

I think most of Fields' woes were just from forcing things trying to come back. His interception on the first drive was totally his fault though; he missed a wide open Jean and the ball sailed right into the free safety's hands. I'll have news on the QB situation very soon...

As for the BCS race, as I said to matt - I think I am definitely done. I just don't see how we could make up 10 spots with three games to go and with at least one of the spots all but guaranteed to go to the Ohio St. - Michigan winner.

                  Thanks for checking in guys!

                    SEEN LEAVING MARRIOTT HOTEL
                    TOGETHER MORNING BEFORE GAME

11/13/2019 7:56 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Tulane head coach D. Geezy and FOX Sports reporter Erin Andrews were seen on surveillance cameras entering a hotel room at the Fayetville Marriott at 2:31am early this past Saturday morning and Andrews was seen leaving the room at 8:45am, just hours prior to the Green Wave's game at Arkansas later that day, according to more than one TMZ anonymous tipster.

Andrews was also caught on camera on a passenger flight headed to Fayetville, Arkansas (pictured above), leading further credence to the story.

Geezy, who is married, would later see his #1 ranked Green Wave team fall that evening to an unranked Arkansas team by a shocking score of 62-27.

The breaking news is just the latest scandal surrounding the Tulane football program, following the team's alleged "bounty program" scandal, which resulted in the 7-game suspension of their defensive coordinator Charles Kelly along with the team's entire defensive coaching staff.

"Geezy has somewhat achieved "rock star" status amongst the ranks of the college football head coaching fraternity and from what I understand, this thing with Andrews has been going on for some time, and she isn't the only one," said one of the tipsters.

"Tulane has become a powerhouse in college football but Geezy and that coaching staff is getting very out of control. A college football coach should not be out partying the night before games and seen entering hotel rooms with women at 3 o'clock in the morning if he is focused on his job and focused on a game. It's sickening."

Neither Geezy, Andrews, the NCAA, or Tulane University had any comment on the matter. Check back at TMZ.com for updates.

Tulane | QB Williams to sit out Thursday's game
                      Tue, 13 Nov 2019 9:28:47 -0700

                      report courtesy Britt McHenry, ESPN.com

Britt McHenry of ESPN.com reported on air, curiously from outside of the offices of TMZ, that Tulane head coach D. Geezy indicated to her that redshirt freshman QB Jimmy Williams (86 overall) did not practice this week and will be listed as "doubtful" on the team's injury report for their upcoming home game versus Ole Miss.

Following Saturday's shocking upset loss to Arkansas, it was rumored that Geezy may turn back to the first year signal caller following redshirt senior QB Preston Fields' (81 overall) poor performance, however with the short week of preparation, there just was not enough time for Williams to heal, giving Fields a chance to redeem himself on what will be the team's "Senior Day" home finale.

Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that Tulane will wear its all-white uniforms for its Senior Day game versus Ole Miss at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Thursday. The team will sport its white helmets, white jerseys, and white pants, and has asked all Green Wave fans in attendance to wear white as well, as the team hopes to "white-out" the Dome for the potential SEC West-clinching matchup.

LOVE the TMZ, classic creativity and originality from you as always my friend. If ever there was a good excuse for being exhausted for a football game, it would be six hours with the lovely Erin Andrews. On a football note, happy to see Fields get the start on senior day.

Haha...glad you guys enjoyed the article. I will say this, it isn't a pointless article, there is indeed a method to my madness; it perhaps gives an excuse for the Arkansas debacle and sets up another subplot for later. The story hasn't been highlighted yet, but there is another area involving the team this season that I haven't touched on yet and I'm just setting up a plot to make the story fit better. haha

Stay tuned, this TV drama style subplot that started out as merely a franchise report-gag will continue to grow legs as we move along....

Thanks for finally posting RedRaider! I've been seeing you liking the posts all this time and always wondered if you'd ever say something. Glad you're enjoying it.

We really need this win versus Ole Miss. If we win, we win the SEC West. If we lose, Bama wins the West. This is essentially the division championship game for us.

2018: Manning completes a touchdown pass to McNeil
Last Meeting: Last season in Oxford, Ole Miss redshirt senior CB Frank Booker returned an interception 10 yards for a touchdown, less than two minutes into the game, to give the Rebels an early 7-0 lead. However, behind the arm of prolific QB Jamie Manning and a strong performance from WR Brandon McNeil, Tulane reeled off 51 unanswered points en route to a 51-7 victory. Manning finished the game 32 of 44 for 373 yards with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, and McNeil caught 9 receptions for 170 yards and a score as the Green Wave improved to 11-0 during last year's national championship run.

Last Meeting at Venue: Playing in the final home game of his illustrious career during his Heisman Trophy-winning season, senior RB Reggie Moore wowed the Mercedes-Benz Superdome crowd one last time, accounting for 200 all-purpose yards and 3 touchdowns as the Wave smoked Ole Miss 37-7 in 2017. In what was a perfect microcosm of his career, Moore ended up with 3 carries for 27 yards with 1 rushing touchdown, 4 receptions for 70 yards with 1 receiving touchdown, 1 kickoff return for a 94-yard touchdown, while also chipping in 9 yards in the punt return game. The game was also junior FS Dre Harris' final home game, and he finished with 13 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, and 1 sack on the night.
