I haven't kept up with it a lot, but I've heard the Kings, Bucks, the Jazz?, the Clippers?, the Nets?, the T-Wolves? Idk. What do you guys think would be the best team?

Realistic teams to move to Seattle?
Trying to decide on a team to move to Seattle for my MyLeague. I'll be posting in the NBA Dynasty Section, and I want it to be as realistic as possible. 30-team control will be on, so I'll be doing a bit of rebranding to each team, but what team would most likely move to Seattle?

Re: Realistic teams to move to Seattle?
Bucks are building a new arena in Milwaukee scheduled to open in 2017, so they aren't moving.
The only other team recently with a realistic chance of relocating was the Kings, but they have new ownership that is keeping them in Sacramento. The Jazz are very committed to SLC and given they're the only show in town I'm sure the city would never let them leave. It doesn't really look like there's any team that might move anytime soon. (Shame for Seattle, they never should've lost the Sonics, but I'd never wish relocation on any fanbase).
If I had to pick a team most likely to move, all things considered, I'd say it'd be the Grizzlies (again), but still that's unlikely.Comment

Re: Realistic teams to move to Seattle?
Nets
NY already has a well established team and the owner is looking to sell.
Clippers
Most likely will happen imo, the owner (Ballmer) tried to buy the Sonics before they were moved to OKC in order to keep them in Seattle and he already tried to buy/relocate the Kings to Seattle.
Says he has no plans to move the team much like the new Sonics owner did right before relocating to OKC.Comment

Re: Realistic teams to move to Seattle?
They just built that billion dollar Barclays Center in Brooklyn, I don't know the specifics but I'd guess the Nets probably have a lease of at least 15 years that will force them to stay there regardless of whether a new owner buys the team.
As far as the Clippers go, the NBA would never let a team move from LA to Seattle regardless of how many teams are in LA (just look at the NFL, there's gonna be THREE teams in LA in the next year or two).Comment

Re: Realistic teams to move to Seattle?
I moved the Nets, personally, because Prokhorov was looking to sell (and the Knicks had New York, the Nets as a franchise has been poor overall, historically speaking, since they migrated from the ABA).
My advice is to just pick a team and put together a reason why. No one believed the Sonics had a shot of moving until it happened.Comment

Re: Realistic teams to move to Seattle?
I would move the Timberwolves, personally. Everybody wants to move the Nets! I take offense to that. Leave Brooklyn alone.
The Timberwolves would be perfect for a relocation. They haven't really accomplished anything since coming into existence, except for that one awesome year in 2004 where KG had an MVP season. Other than that, the Wolves haven't really done much.
I'd go with whoever has the longest active streak of missing the playoffs, without being a franchise that's liable to not be moved. The Wolves are second in that list, with 9, I think.Comment

Re: Realistic teams to move to Seattle?
Even though the current ownership has committed to keeping the team in Minnesota and there is an arena expansion in the works, I'd still move them, Sacramento or Milwaukee.
I believe Seattle will only get an expansion team in reality but one of the above three existing teams could move if the arena deals fall through or ownership in Minnesota betrays the promises made.
In a pure fantasy world, I'd most likely move the Clippers but in reality they won't move. Balmer paid a lot for that team and if he moves the team to Seattle, he'd lose a lot of valuation.
If I wanted to move Memphis (which I don't want to) they would move to Louisville.
The Clippers can move to a new home in Anaheim(SoCal) but the arena there is now getting old. It is the home of the NHL Ducks, or move back to San Diego but the arena there is even older than Anaheim.
Alaska just does not have the fan base to support a team - they fly to Seattle for Sea Hawks football every home game... and I don't think Hawaii would work because of the time zones.Comment

Oh a lease, how binding, remember when Seattle had a lease for the Sonics to play at Key Arena till 2010?They just built that billion dollar Barclays Center in Brooklyn, I don't know the specifics but I'd guess the Nets probably have a lease of at least 15 years that will force them to stay there regardless of whether a new owner buys the team.

I'm sure the Nets won't be relocated but a lease isn't something these guys can't maneuver around.
I'm not sure the Clippers being the B team in LA is enough reason to keep them there and with football teams on the way the Clippers will fall even further as a draw in LA.
On top of buying the Sonics, Ballmer had plans to help finance a brand new arena in Seattle when trying to get the Sonics to stay, he has seemed hell bent on bringing a team to Seattle and now he has a team, I don't see someone with that much drive and ambition giving up on something that they've invested that much time in.Last edited by Wolf Ticket; 10-20-2015, 12:33 PM.Comment

Re: Realistic teams to move to Seattle?
The only issue I know of about a potential Clippers move to Seattle is that, when Ballmer bought the team from the Sterlings, he was barred from relocating the team based on the language of the agreement.Oh a lease, how binding, remember when Seattle had a lease for the Sonics to play at Key Arena till 2010?

Here's the link.
It's vague and there's not many details, but there are plenty of articles floating about the Internet that make many, many valid points in why moving an LA team to Seattle wouldn't make much sense financially. Even with the Clippers being relegated to a third or fourth rate attraction in the town (assuming the NFL gets back there in the next few years), the Clippers were absolute garbage for most of their existence and made Sterling plenty of money.
Honestly don't think they move unless LA gets hit by some sort of natural disaster (like NOLA and Katrina), then the Clippers get stuck in Seattle for a season, then its determined that LA really doesn't need/miss the Clippers much and Ballmer gets around that agreement.
However, based on this ...
I really doubt Shelly Sterling will let Ballmer move the team without extracting even more blood from him.As part of the deal Shelly Sterling gets the titles of "Owner Emeritus" and "Clippers' Number 1 Fan", as well as ten tickets in sections 101 or 111 for all Clippers games, two courtside tickets for all games in Los Angeles, six parking spots in Lot C for each game, 12 VIP passes that include access to the Lexus Club, Arena Club, or Chairman's Lounge and Media room or equivalent, for each Staples games, three championship rings following any Clippers title, and will run a yet to be named charitable foundation.Comment
