The gameplay is king (what I could figure out anyway) and the animation is pretty awesome. MyCareer feels a little flat though. Granted, I’m only about 2 months in, but it feels very wooden. I enjoyed the game more just jumping right into matches where I didn’t have to see the choppy MyCareer cutscenes. Had crazy matches; multiple near-falls, kicking out of multiple finishers, submissions, the whole bit. Will check out the Showcase and Universe tonight at length.

On another note, has someone figured out how to do resting holds? Or is that automatic based on stamina? I’ve found that I sometimes do it, sometimes not.

I was able to do rest holds by doing the following:

      - at a grounded opponent, flick down on the right stick to reposition the opponent in a sitting position
      - go to the opponent's head and hold the grapple button without any directions to get into a working hold

There are also some ground strikes which force your opponent from prone to a sitting position, but that obviously varies per-character.

I've played two matches thus far, and wow, the in-ring gameplay hasn't been this good... maybe ever. Graphics are great. I love how entrances aren't cut up by loading screens.

I'm super impressed. This is 2K stamping it's mark on this franchise. This is the first true next-gen wrestling game, and it's been great so far.

Damn you all for making me want to head out and get this game...

I haven't bought a game I think since the first Smackdown vs Raw.

I haven't loved playing a wrestling game since No Mercy.

Please tell.. will I be satisfied?

Thanks! I just downloaded the manual, and looks like you can apply a resting hold at anytime by hitting “grapple” while neutral on stick. I’ll pay more attention to it, as this is the first game since WWE 13 I’ve purchased. I’m sure there’s more nuance I need to get used to that was introduced in ’14 and ’15. Loved the gameplay. Seriously, it’s KING.

Good to know re: rest holds. Could you drop a link to the manual in this thread if you get the chance?

Based off of all these comments, I guess my wallet is about to be $59.99 lighter!

You sound an awful lot like me, bro. And I would say that you will enjoy this. 2K really did a good job this year with both the roster and animations. Like others have said, the pacing is just right. They did such a good job that I am just playing random matches with superstars I know nothing about instead of my usual diet (from 2K15) of The Rock, Stone Cold, Taker and Shawn Micheals. It's only been 3 matches but I'm starting to feel Seth Rollins. Cant wait to get the controls down and set up my Universe. Wrasslin is back!

Been 5 years since I played a WWE game. Looks like 2k are unicorns from what I've read in this thread. Will definitely pick this up tonight.

really on the fence of getting this game I haven't played a wrestling game since Smackdown vs Raw 2009 but so far from the impressions in this thread, everything seems to be positive!

But not every match. Gotta protect the business sometimes.

Do they still have the meter to kick out of a pin? Or is their button smashing or something new this year?

Downloaded from the web-site the game pops-up with? May need to hop on that.

So far, I've played a round-robin of matches with those available while the game is being installed (Cena, Ambrose, Orton, etc,) and holy hell does this game play and feel great. I'm more than two years removed from actually playing the game, so I'm quite a bit rusty, and have lost every match, but LOVE IT.
