I don't advocate drafting a QB if they get a top 5 pick. If the BPA when they pick is a stud pass rusher or tackle, that might be better for the team, which has a lot of needs.
I do agree that Kap could be effective in the right situations but what bothered me about the last game was that he gave up early on plays and seemed too cautious -- maybe he was coached that way for this game.
Just looked like he had no heart whatsoever.
Even when he almost won the SB, it bothered me that he was inconsistent in the first halves of the NFC Championship game at Atlanta and the Superbowl, where the team fell behind big because he couldn't move the ball at the start of those games.
But obviously the big plays allowed him to bring the team back into those games.
I have to think that he's just not a student of the game, that he doesn't do the preparation to know the keys of each team he faces.
He also doesn't have the pocket presence, which seems to be something you either have or don't, not something that can be coached up.
In the short term, the team has no alternatives. I'd be okay with drafting a QB after the first round. They drafted QBs very late and those players have not stuck around on the roster, so they're going to have to use a higher pick.
I see what's happening to Luck right now and I just don't think putting all your eggs in one basket, even in this QB-friendly league, is a good idea.
Sure the QB is the most important position but are any of the QB prospects likely to be very good from day 1? I think there are DEs and a T who are more likely to be very good as rookies than there may be QBs.
