Is 2k getting more bang for their buck?

How is it that Madden 16, NBA 2k16, and MLB the Show are all the same price when we are getting more from one than the other?

Look at the size difference of these files...

    Madden 16- 19.59gb

    NBA 2k16- 44.86gb

    NBA Live 16- 24.45gb

    MLB the Show 15- 36.1gb

and yet in the end, we are paying the same price for these games. When in terms of size, 2k is larger than both of EA games combined.

Could just be bad coding and compression that mates it be larger. This is a bad way to measure your investment. If anything, 2k should be cheaper with the advent of pay for content since you literally can't enjoy a single mode these days with out paying a little for vc seeing as that the rewards for actually playing the game have decreased every year.

I'm enjoying every single mode and have spent $0. So please get out of here with that.

Some glitches aside (contracts being the big one) you can still enjoy myleague just fine without paying extra money.

By the way The Show and Madden also have pay to play modes. It's the nature of the beast. I only play offline franchise modes so it doesn't affect me but I will admit that I spoil my daughter rotten and have Disney extremely rich with all the Disney Infinity stuff I've continued to buy.

Honestly all games should be cheaper with them getting all the extra money on the back end, but they never will be until a competitor goes all in like 2k did, with financial backing to withstand the lean years and provides a game that stands up to Madden, The Show, and 2k. 2k earned business by first providing a much cheaper alternative and second making it a decent game that got better and better every year.

raw filesize means next to nothing

I would imagine 2k's is so high mainly because of all the HD assets (mainly every single player's super detailed face, etc).

But who knows? It still means nothing because a game is more than just the amount of data on a disk.

I have been saying this for awhile now. It's fairly obvious that 2K and the Show are deeper and overall better games. The lack of content from the EA games is obvious, to me this is a clear indication of a lot less content for your money. I'm not a programmer, but I do have common sense. The more memory used for a game, likely will mean more content. 2K compared to Madden is laughable, even without looking at these numbers. Are games like 2K perfect? No, but when looking at the amount of space aka possible errors, then a game over 2x as big should have some wiggle room. Madden and games of that size should come out of the box almost flawless, although Career Mode would like a word with me on that theory... MAN DOWN!

while this is true in a very general sense, it could still absolutely be misleading

large HD assets and things of that nature can take up a ton of memory, while not technically adding much to "content"

Like a basketball game with super-hyper detailed renderings of every single thing on every single arena, including full HD 3D models of individual crowd members and seats and even the tiles in the bathroom, could dwarf 2K in file size, even if it only had a single mode: play now. That's not exactly more "content" in the way you're thinking, is it?

Basically, take file size with not just a grain, but a whole heaping pitcher full of salt.

I just have to laugh because when this same thing gets posted in the Madden and Live forum, excuses just start rolling in.

But in all reality, if you compare all these games side by side, it doesn't take the file size to tell you what game has more density and features.

Especially when you have to hear the excuse from Madden and Live fans' "There isn't enough room to add something like that."

Those videos clips for Mycareer add up. Don't forget Mycareer is pretty much a non interactive movie.

                        Very true...

So I guess the question still remains, are we getting more out of 2k that any other sports game?

Is it worth more or less that the $59.99 that we pay.

The way I see it, if it's a game I'm gonna be playing over and over I have no problem ever paying $60 for it.

People buy dvd's for $20. They have collections. So if you're paying that much to watch a 2 hour movie a few times, isn't $60 for a game a pretty good bargain if you play it say, even 3 times for a couple hours each sitting?

But on topic, it's pretty clear to me that 2K has a lot more depth than Madden or Live. Without being shown the sizes I would bet my life 2K was a bigger install prior to playing any of them games.

To me, they treat each release like it's a new game. I haven't got a Madden since 13, cuz even then it was starting to feel the same over and over again. 2K always puts lots of depth into their games and that's why it's the best sports game out there.

But if that reasoning alone would make them feel justified in raising a game's price, a lotttt of people would be unhappy with that. It's still a sports game, a yearly sports game.
I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

The game had roughly the same amount of space taken up last year, if not more. I highly doubt the MyCareer videos take up much space at all.

In regards to the comment from the other user, I realize it doesn't mean 100% of the additional memory used is going to be content. That is why I used the term "likely". One would just have to assume that over 2x as much memory used is going to equal more content, not 2x as much content maybe, but it sure seems it does considering I own both Madden and NBA 2K. I just don't understand why the EA games limit the amount of content they release in their sports games. FIFA is the same way and has been since this gen started, 15-20gigs per game.
