Re: Week 8: Chargers @ Ravens
A win here and Baltimore can still go 10-6!
Wonder how many yards Phillip Rivers will throw for. -
Re: Week 8: Chargers @ Ravens
Steve Smith can't go out like this.

Re: Week 8: Chargers @ Ravens
On the one hand, I feel absolutely horrible for Steve Smith. This cannot be the way he imagined going out. ON the other hand, this could be beneficial to the Ravens.
Perriman needs to get on the field and the front office will get to see what next year's passing game would look like.
Our season is already shot to hell. Might as well treat it like a series of exhibition games. Lets see what we have to work with in the future.Comment

Re: Week 8: Chargers @ Ravens
The Chargers lost literally 25% of their roster to injury in this game. It's been like this all season. I've never seen anything like it.

Re: Week 8: Chargers @ Ravens
Brutal ending to the season for Steve Smith. I would not be surprised if he is done, but I am pulling for the guy. Would love to see him get one more shot at the playoffs.I love John Fox press conferences.Comment

The kid is clearly not healthy. The Ravens lose the only real WR threat they have and you want them to rush the future #1 WR on the field during a lost season? On the one hand, I feel absolutely horrible for Steve Smith. Re: Week 8: Chargers @ Ravens
Not rush him, sorry if I didn't make it clear.
"Perriman needs to get on the field" = I really hope he is able to get on the field.
I hoped he would play before the injury to Steve Smith so that the team would have an idea of the type of player he is going into next season. But with the injury the "need" for him to play is higher now because it would not just be about him, but also about seeing how the offense as a whole would look.
Though I do think the injury increases the odds that Steve plays next year.Comment

Re: Week 8: Chargers @ Ravens
Smith actually already said he's rushing surgery so he can start rehab as soon as possible. We'll see what his family has to say about that, and time can change a man's mind, but seems like he'll be back. Not rush him, sorry if I didn't make it clear.

I still disagree with your thoughts on "need". They don't "need" Perriman. The season is all but done. If he is literally not 100%, there is no reason to risk his health fighting for 8-8. Not to mention, he's had absolutely no training camp, preseason, whatever. You think he'll just step out there as the #1 and give us a good idea of what it'll look like? I don't think OBJ or Cooper could even do that. It's not impossible, but unless he's 100% I don't know why they'd even consider trying it.Comment

Re: Week 8: Chargers @ Ravens
It has nothing to do with fighting to finish 8-8. The team has a lot of holes to fill but limited resources to fill those needs. It would make it a lot easier if Perriman was not a complete question mark heading into next season.Smith actually already said he's rushing surgery so he can start rehab as soon as possible. We'll see what his family has to say about that, and time can change a man's mind, but seems like he'll be back.

The team should assume that Smith is not returning next season. In all likelihood there will be another new WR joining the team. If Perriman does not get on the field this year then next season would be his actual rookie season. I don't like the idea of having Flacco work with multiple rookie WRs and a RB on the wrong side of 30. Perriman on the field this year would be nothing more than getting him reps so that he is ready and comfortable with Flacco next year.
Now I agree that they should not rush him back, but they (and him) should still approach rehab and getting him healthy just as if we were in the division race. I really don't want to hear that they decided to put him on IR because this is a lost season anyway so why rush it.
At this point it is all about getting ready for next season. To do that properly I think he needs reps.Comment
