Is it just me, or do centers suck?

I've been having some majorly frustrating issues with my center and wanted to see what everyone else thought. First of all, I know I'm not all that great at the game, but I have a center with a 99 overall and 33 badges, including dead eye. There are three problems with the game/my player that irk me and I just wanted to see if I'm just that bad or if anyone else has these problems, because right now, the center just seems like a glorified decoy for sitting under the rim and getting rebounds.

    1. Ball handling: all of my stats are maxed except this, so I expect to turn the ball over, but not this much. It's so bad that if someone passes me the ball I pretty much immediately slam the A button to get rid of it because if I touch anyone or they look at me funny, the ball is going to go flying out of my hands. It's especially bad since simply holding the left trigger auto-steals, so if I get a pass while moving, there is a 90% chance I'm dropping it. Most of the time I don't even have an option to make a movement before the ball is long gone.

    2. Blocked shots/dunks: Is it just me or is blocking super OP in the game? If someone is hitting the ground from trying to swat a shot and I start to go up, the ball gets swatted. There's like a 4 second period where you can't possibly put the ball up or you will get blocked, it's ridiculous.

    3. Missed shots: I play mostly in the park, so I do get pretty open shots often, but I just miss nearly all of them. I have a balanced 6'10 center with full shooting and dead eye badge, but I can't hit anything. It's like if there is someone within ten yards of me, I will auto-miss it every time.

I'm just really frustrated and wanted to see what everyone else thinks. Obviously not everyone has problems as I have seen playing in the park, but I was just curious. It seems like I can't dribble, dunk, or shoot. Without any of that, I guess I just sit under the hoop and rebound while slamming the A button?

although you dont directly say this in your OP, i get the feeling that you dont really know how to work the post or how to face up and get to the rim/and or face up and get a good mid range jump shot.

if your guy is a good jump shooter, you should also set picks for the ball handler then fade into the open space for a mid range jumper or three point shot. i dont play myplayer as a big man, but in myleague i do this all the time with myers leonard who is a beast at shooting jumpers, and he is open almost every time i try it.

you cant play like a guard if you're a big man. you have to put yourself into positions to get the ball passed to you, and not only to get the ball passed to you, but to score once you do have the ball. camping out under the rim or trying to blow by people like a guard is not going to work. you have to be crafty.

Yea bro PGs n Centers are the go to positions this year. I just saw a outside SG can have like an 84 dunk so that's 3rd but centers are beasts.

If you were gonna make a short guy shoulda have made him a PF. If 6'10 you shoulda just went with a SF like I did. Either way it may just be your style of play. You should be faster than a lot of centers so you can run around n box them out etc. If you're balanced tho you should be facing up because your inside isn't that high.

You gotta play to the strengths of a center. It doesn't work so well when you make them a balanced player since you want to hit some mid-range shots like Al Jefferson or Marc Gasol. I'm only a 71 OVR C and average 10 and 15 with 1.5 turnovers a game. You gotta kick it back out, don't bother holding onto the ball for two long unless you decent in the post

Re: Is it just me, or do centers suck?

Well, in theory it could be a Ben Wallace type of Center with shooting ability.

                1. I would try to get as much spacing as you could between you and your defender. Even as it means that you have to play ball distributor in the middle of the perimeter. This is often seen in real life from the likes of Marc Gasol or Kendrick Perkins, who is a balanced 6'10" C by the way, and can impact the game positively regarding ball movement and scoring of your team mates. Also, you could try to find open spaces in the midrange area for a catch and shoot. If you leave the semicircle under the basket, you also free up space for penetrations. If your defender tries to play help defense, you are open for a shot.

                2. Yeah, you're definitely right on this one. Try to pump fake and move away from the basket for an open short range shot. I do this all the time after offensive rebounds (moving away and quickly turning around for a shot). Also try different dunk packages and leave the ones alone where you move the basket behind your head in the animation and try real quick ones like "Quick drops" or simple one-handers. Also try a lot more layups on fastbreaks. They are way, way harder to block from behind. You probably know that it is goaltending after you touched the backboard with the basket.

                3. I can connect to that one especially as I have an inside scoring PG as my second player which misses open midrange shots that feel ridiculous. Especially considering how much practice I put in for my shot. But the solution here is simple: try a lot of different jump shots with different speeds until you find the one which is in your DNA. We have a thread about jump shots here: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ts-thread.html

Also try to get the Shot Creator badge as it triggers really, really often in the midrange area.

I just did a brainstorming, man. Maybe it helps ya a little bit. I never played a Center, but I had a lot of success with a Kevin Garnett/Dirk Nowitzki hybrid as a PF in 2K15. I wish you lasting fun with your player!

I run with a couple of centers; they dominate inside.

Re: Is it just me, or do centers suck?

As someone who loves being a big in Park or Pro-Am (not so much Career since it's way too easy to dominate), it's all in who you run with. Much like real life NBA, you need to run with a team that's going to know where to find you open looks and know where you're comfortable shooting at. I'm not a shooting big but I can hit from mid range if I'm open and in rare opportunities, hit a 3. The thing as a center is, you have to know when and when not to take shots. Maybe it's because I don't have deadeye but I rarely if ever take a contested shot. Given that my mid range is in the 60's, I think it would be easier for you if you fool your defender into thinking you are just a low post player and when he sags off, you can get some easy looks to get going.

Ball handling is a major issue and unfortunately, that one is hard to work around. I can get the offensive rebound at times and go up with it for a nice dunk but if there's more than one defender around, I'm kicking it out (honestly it's a good idea too given someone would be open). If you get the defensive rebound then unless there's no one near you, you definitely pass ASAP. There are opportunities though that guys will get greedy and smaller guys will go to you to try and strip if you hang onto it and you can zip it up the court to get an easy assist.

Pump faking and using different moves are your friend with blocks. You won't fool them every time and sometimes you end up pump faking and missing a better dunk originally but a lot of defenders are thirsty for the block and will easily leave their feet to go after you. The key is to try and be one step ahead of them at all times and try to anticipate what they're gonna do, then do something to completely throw them off and score. This is why as a big, I prefer Pro-Am to Park. You can completely be thrown off in Park by messed up match ups or a team with 3 point guards (which means you can't even have the ball for even a split second after a rebound and will have a tough time even rebounding being spread out). You probably have better speed than I do to keep up but it's almost impossible with smaller players to be able to keep up with defending them on the perimeter.

Did you also get the "Scrub Badge"? That's the one they give for someone fouling out of at least 150 games just so they can get their overall up to 99.

Re: Is it just me, or do centers suck?

The problem with Centers is that 7'3 Centers aren't limited enough. They have max rebounding (94), the same as smaller centers, which makes any other center pretty much redundant because of the height.

How many centers are 7'3 in the NBA? And how many centers in NBA history have had the rebounding tenacity of Dennis Rodman, Bill Russell, Dwight Howard, etc?

The rebounding cap for 7'3 centers should have been 75-80. The height alone is enough of an advantage, but having them have 94 rebounder, the same as any other center makes them the only option.

6'11 - 7'1 centers should be the best Centers in the game because that's around the height where most quality Centers play at. Quality centers above 7'0/7'1 is pretty abnormal/rare.

That's been my understanding too: that it's almost irrelevant to choose a C below 7ft.. might as well be a SF at 6'10.

The game does not give short C's enough luxuries to be an attractive let alone competitive sell over the 7ft plus C's.

Which is why it's fun being the 6'10 C and people on the mic asking me why I didn't make a 7'3 C. It's hilarious when you say you want to play as realistic as possible and they're mute for the rest of the game
