    Week 10 2013 (Season 1) ND Recap

    Irish Win in OT

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Notre Dame ends its losing streak with a home victory over rival Navy in OT, 34-27. The Irish really needed a win and they fought hard all game to get it against a scrappy Navy team. The Irish were finally able to balance their offense and ran for nearly 200 yards to go with over 250 passing yards.

Head Coach John Bax was pleased with how the game went. Notre Dame focused on stopping the outside runs from the triple option and made the Midshipmen run between the tackles. The reason this game went to overtime was that early in the game Navy got two passing touchdowns. The Irish defenders were caught looking into the backfield and got burned on big passing plays.

The Irish fought back and were able to tie the game in the fourth to force overtime. In OT, Notre Dame found the endzone and held Navy on fourth down for the win. Navy's fourth down attempt was a pass in the endzone that was caught, but the receiver was hit and dropped the ball before his feet touched the ground.

Notre Dame goes on the road to face Pittsburgh (2-6) next week. Both teams will be fighting to keep their bowl eligibility alive.

Nice win to end the losing streak, looks like you had them beat in every statistical category. Plus option teams get no love on the field in NCAA 14, just when their game is simmed. I always found that weird.

How bout them Hokies?! I am loving seeing Virginia Tech at number one!

Definitely a tough season for you all but you knew it would be to start. It looks like you are bringing in some solid recruits.

They layouts are looking top notch. You are doing some really nice work with the HTML.

            Irish Steal One in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The win was there for the taking, but Pitt just couldn't help themselves out when it mattered most. Panther Freshman (RS) QB Adam Mitchell (who was starting for the injured Senior Ryan Brown) threw three interceptions including a pick-six that sealed Pitt's fate. Panther Head Coach Paul Chryst said, "We out played them in all phases of the game today, expect for turnovers and of course points."

The Irish head coach John Bax had this to say, "We certainly didn't play the way we wanted to out there today, but we did just enough to come away victorious. Yes, I would agree that Pitt lost the game more than we won it, but sometimes that happens and a win is a win."

Notre Dame will be more than pleased to have pulled out the rivalry win on the road. This moves their record to 4-6 and still in the hunt for a bowl bid. Up next is the final home game of the season against an under-performing 1-8 Minnesota. The Irish are already favored by 6. After that is a bye week before the season finale at #9 Stanford (7-2). If Notre Dame can pull off the upset and doesn't get tripped up by the Golden Gophers, then they will be 6-6 and may receive a bowl bid. For how difficult the schedule was and how far Notre Dame has fallen, that would be a very good year.

Many in the media have been discussing just how irrelevant Notre Dame has become over the past few years and continuing this season. Head Coach John Bax really has to turn the program around quickly as the past glory is fading farther and farther away. Sure Notre Dame still sells a lot of tickets come gameday, but it has turned into more of a visit for nostalgia than to go see a mighty college football team. Is John Bax the man for the job and will he be able to 'Wake up the Echoes'?

Yeah, VT is rolling right along. We'll see if they can keep it up.

Yes, very difficult schedule, but fun in its own way. I'm enjoying the difficulty and the realism that has come from it. Recruiting exploded after the Navy win and we have 23 commits now. I'm a bit overwhelmed to try and do a recruiting profile for each of them, so I may just pick out the top ones and do a post on them soon.

Sorry about the delay between posts recently, just haven't had time. I am hoping to get another few posts out before the weekend. I should have time over the weekend to play and post and might even get to the off-season. I'm getting really excited to start year 2 and begin integrating my recruits with the team and hopefully building story lines with them.

Thank you. It was definitely more a Pitt loss than a ND win haha. If they wouldn't have thrown three picks they probably would have won.

Yeah, should be able to take care of Minnesota on Senior Day, but Stanford will be tough. They play in the Game of the Week this week at USC. If they lose maybe they won't have anything to play for when they play us

                      Gophers Ruin Irish's Day

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Minnesota has had a disappointing season, but they picked up a nice win in South Bend. The Gophers had only one other win all season and were looking to get a win and begin building towards next year. The Irish however were caught looking past Minnesota to their end-of-season matchup with Stanford. With todays loss, Notre Dame will not be bowl eligible for the first time since 2007.

The Golden Gophers have struggled on both sides of the ball all season, and that continued today being out-gained in total offense. They did however score 5 TDs in the red zone and capitalized off of the two Notre Dame turnovers.

The Irish just couldn't get it done today and looked like a team that had already counted this as a win and was looking ahead to Stanford. It will be a huge learning opportunity for both players and coaches to never look past any team, especially when you are Notre Dame and everyone wants to have a win against you.

Many in the media are again questioning if head coach John Bax is going to be able to bring Notre Dame back to the elite status in college football. With his first season being a losing one, many are wondering if he is more like Gerry Faust, or will he prove to be more like Lou Holtz. Time will tell and after talking with the Irish AD, it sounds like Bax is not under any job security warnings yet.

During the bye week, wanted to highlight a couple of signees.

                          Scouting Report
Brad Kramer is a great signing for the Irish. He is a big bodied recieving tight end. He will need to work on his blocking throughout his college career.

Brad flew mostly under the radar for most schools as he missed his entire junior year with a broken arm. The Notre Dame coaching staff think he will have a very bright future playing for the Irish.
                          Recruiting Profile – A.J. Thornton
                          A.J. Thornton | HB

                          Scouting Report
A.J. is a key recruit for the Irish. He is a talented runner who was heavily recruited by both Ole Miss and Miami. He has great top speed and running skills. He will need to work on first step quickness though.

The one thing that could keep A.J. from the field his freshman year will be his acceleration. He could red-shirt and just work on the physical aspects of being a D1 RB.
