Yeah, it was a very rough game from the start after fumbling the first play from scrimmage. I was rooting for VT too, but their luck finally ended.

Thank you. I'm really looking forward to Year 2. Getting a little job security pressure as well will make things a bit exciting to say the least haha.

          Week 1 2014 (Season 2) ND Recap

Irish's Strong Start to the Season

WAKE FOREST, N. Car - Notre Dame kicked off the 2014 college football season with an impressive 38-21 victory over Wake Forest in North Carolina. The Irish kept the Demon Deacons at arm's length all game with two takeaways and a strong rushing attack.

The player of the game was Notre Dame's sophomore running back Junior Roth. Junior ran for 198 yards on 33 carries for a 6.0 average. The sophomore also accounted for two of the team's running touchdowns. Head Coach John Bax was very excited about Roth coming into the season and was very pleased with his output today.

The season opening win has the Irish at 1-0 and should provide a little job security to head coach John Bax who was criticized after last years disappointing 4-8 record. Next week's game at #19 Michigan St will be another good test for this young Irish team who will look to erase the memory of last season.

Week 1 2014 (Season 2) ND Injury Recap

Irish's B.J. Ryan Lost for Season

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Notre Dame suffered a season ending injury in their win over Wake Forest Saturday when redshirt junior cornerback B.J. Ryan broke his collarbone. Ryan was the starting Nickle package cornerback and #3 cornerback on the team. The Junior had 33 tackles and 2 pass deflections last season.

The Irish will replace Ryan with true freshman cornerback Mike Williams from Delaware. Williams was going to be redshirted this year, but he will now be thrown into action earlier than expected. Notre Dame Head Coach John Bax said that Williams is very talented and was the last player to get red-shirted. "He knew that he was one injury from seeing the field this year, and unfortunately that had to happen week one.

We will see what this talented and very fast freshman can bring to the Irish this week against #19 Michigan St. Surely Spartan Head Coach Mark Dantonio will want to test the true freshman early on in the contest.

Huge Rivalry Win for Notre Dame

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State stumbles out of the gate to begin the 2014 season. The Irish, coming of their season-opening road win over Wake Forest, found themselves on the road in week 2 and again trying to beat a team they failed to beat last season at home. The Spartans came out and looked sharp from the start, forcing ND to punt on a three-and-out in the Irish's first drive and then marching down the field and scoring a touchdown of their own on the first Spartan drive.

After that, Notre Dame marched and answered with a 1 yard touchdown pass from Senior QB Calvin Lewis to Junior WR Nick Griffin. With the score tied at 7-7, the defenses took over and the game seemed to be a stalemate with neither team able to take the lead. The #19 Spartans and their highly touted offense didn't seem in-sync and were disrupted by the constant Irish blitzes. Michigan St gave up 4 sacks and 2 ints on the day.

The Spartan's did take the lead on their opening drive of the second half, and held the lead going into the fourth quarter. That's when the Irish offense really got going. Notre Dame had been trying to run the ball all day on the Spartans with Sophomore RB Junior Roth getting 136 yards on 18 carries and a pair of TDs. But it was the passing game that really got going in the fourth and the Irish were able to score 17 points in the final frame and leave East Lansing with a 24-14 victory.

Notre Dame head coach John Bax had this to say, "I give Michigan St a lot of respect, they are a great football team, but they just weren't ready for the Irish today! The Spartans were clearly rusty from the off-season and weren't ready for our blitzes and the speed of Roth".

Next up for Notre Dame is the home-opener against rival #13 Michigan. The Wolverines play their first game of the season later tonight against Utah at home. The Irish will surely welcome the home crowd as they will need to be almost perfect if they want to take down Michigan. The Wolverines are returning one of the best defenses in the nation and it will be very difficult to put points up against them.

                    Week 3 2014 (Season 2) NCAA Recap

Notre Dame Falls Short Against Wolverines

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Irish lost their home opener against #12 Michigan, though it was a close game throughout. The Wolverines had the better team, but just couldn't put away the pesky Irish. Michigan out-gained the Irish by over 100 yards, yet hurt themselves with a fumble, a missed field goal, and two failed fourth down conversions. Notre Dame struggled to move the ball all game against the very good and experienced Wolverine defense.

Notre Dame struggled to run the ball with both running backs, Banks and Roth. Junior Roth had been the breakout star of the offense rushing for well over 100 yards in each of the first two contests, but could only manage 71 yards against Michigan. The Irish defense also struggled and the usually effective blitzes were very hit or miss.

Overall it wasn't a bad game from the Irish as they are still behind Michigan in talent. The Wolverines however might need to be reminded of how to finish off an opponent. It will be interesting to see how this rivalry game plays out next season.

Up next for the Fighting Irish is another road game against in-state rival Purdue. Notre Dame will be looking to get back to their winning ways. Head Coach John Bax said that they have a good opportunity to pick up a win and keep working toward the goal of being bowl eligible.

Irish Take Advantage of Boilermaker Mistakes

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Notre Dame improves to 3-1 after beating Purdue with an efficient offense and an opportunistic defense. The Irish offense converted 10 of 15 third downs, and ran the ball for 215 yards. While the defense intercepted Boilermaker QB Thornton 4 times.

Head Coach John Bax had this to say after the victory, "Our guys did exactly what we asked them to do today. They are starting to see what our team is capable of when they work together and trust their coaches. Purdue has a good team, with some excellent skill players. They have a fast running back and are deeper than most teams at wide receiver. The problem was that Thornton was trying to force the action and got himself in trouble and we capitalized with the four picks. I think that we did a good job when we had the ball of not getting too aggressive and had a good balance of the run and pass and kept their defense confused."

Up next for the Irish is their fourth road game at Minnesota (2-1). The Golden Gophers are coming off a home win over New Mexico St. Both of their wins have come at home this season. Minnesota sports a talented offense lead by Senior QB Jacob Doyle and fifth year Senior RB Shelton Smith. Doyle is getting his first time as a starter and is making the most of it already by averaging nearly 300 yards passing a game. Smith is a bruiser at 5'10" 224lbs. He is also averaging 6.0 yards per carry so far this year. We will have to see how the Irish defense plans on stopping the duo. The good news is that Minnesota's defense can be exposed as they are giving up over 25 points per game and have yet to face an offense as talented as Notre Dame's.

After last season's disappointment and many in the media questioning John Bax's ability to lead the Fighting Irish, he has them in a good spot so far this year. His job security was beginning to waver a bit, but the AD has reaffirmed his faith in the young coach.

Irish's Strong Start to the Season

MINNEAPOLIS, Min. - Notre Dame went on the road for the fourth time this season and picked up their fourth road victory over Minnesota, 42-28. It was a close game throughout, but the Irish got the edge thanks to a rushing attack that accounted for over 300 yards and a pick-six.

The Golden Gophers dropped to 2-2 on the year. They played well, but had two turnovers and couldn't stop the Irish running game.

Notre Dame's Sophomore running back Junior Roth got player of the game honors with 186 yards rushing on 24 carries for a 7.7 average and a pair of touchdowns. Roth has 715 yards on the season through 5 games and is on pace to break the Notre Dame single season rushing record of 1437 yards set by Vagas Ferguson in 1979. Unfortunately for Roth, the Irish's schedule only gets more difficult. He may not set any records this season, but perhaps he will before his time at Notre Dame has finished.

Up next for the Fighting Irish is a home game against Pitt (0-4). The Panthers will be looking to get their first win of the season and on the road against a rival would be a big first win.

                                Irish Win at Home

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - For the first time this season, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish won at home and brought their record to 5-1. Their previous four wins all came on the road and they lost their only other home game to Michigan. Today, the Irish beat rival Pitt 27-16.

The Irish won with a strong running attack and with three interceptions off Pitt's true Freshman QB Curtis. Notre Dame Head Coach John Bax had this to say, "Another hard fought victory over a talented team. It was close from the beginning, but they struggled to stop our runners and we found ways to confuse and pick off their freshman quarterback".

This was a huge recruiting weekend for the Irish, hosting over 20 recruits. We will see if they are able to get any verbal commitments.

Up next for the Fighting Irish, LSU (3-2). The Tigers are coming of a 24-14 victory over Florida today in Gainesville. We will see how the aggressive Tigers do against the Irish who are playing very well as of late.
