LA Lakers, bring show back | Noah Ervin GM series

EL SEGUNDO- This morning the Lakers officially announce the hire of a new GM, after Mitch presented his resignation last week.

A young rookie GM called Noah Ervin is the one the Lakers organization has select to build this new project with the only hope to bring the team where they belong.

-"I believe in our guys, a young team with a lot of talent and the experience of Kobe, with a few adjustments I´m sure we´ll fight to make the playofs", Ervin said when he was asked about his new team. Does that mean he´s going to make some trades? "Let me do my work, you´ll find out soon" he reply to us.

Let´s see what this young GM can do for the Lakers.

This is my first time doing this. The one thing I want with this is a place where I can share the story and at the end of it, be able to see all the progress, remember all the player that went through the team, develop some kind of background about the GM, and play 2K in a different way.

As is my first time and I´m spanish, any advice will be welcome. Thank you!

      First day of work.

After a long time figuring out how to build winner team, the best option he find out was around a clear idea: ball movement.

A few years living overseas while finishing his degree, helped Erving in his basketball ideas. He had always been a huge euroleague fan, and that Popovich basketball, mix up with a few ideas that will apparently never fit in an NBA team, were the main idea of a new basketball project, that will begin with a few trades and the hire of the rookie coach: Logan Smichdt (B-;B+;B+), that will create in LA a new defense idea (2-3 zone), with an offense based on fastbreaks, 20 second offenseand ball movement around an strech- 4 with a great high post hability to play ISO´s or Pick and Roll/Pop. That was the born of the need of having that kind of PF: Boris Diaw.

Logan came to the office and the new coach signed a 2 year 2,38M$ contract.

"I couldn't be any happier" Logan said to the press when he left the facilities.

Ervin live in LA since college. He went to UCLA and, obviously, he felt in love with the idea of a 6´9 PG that could play in the post, rebound and create the transition play. So, after that great College memories, at least he will give Kyle Anderson the chance to prove himself in the league.

After some time thinking about the players that might go if Diaw and Kyle were going to be on the team, Ervin along with the scout team decided that the following NBA draft will have some pretty nice SF prospect such as Simmons and Ingram that will fit great in his new project, and after the scout report on each team, the GM decided that the Knick´s pick was the best possible choice, so they will go hard for it.

Erving was trying to figure out how that trade will turn into reality and, after a few hours, he find out the solution. At 2pm the trade was already done:

Diaw, Anderson and the 2016 Knicks´ NBA Draft pick (from nuggets) went to LA; Lou Williams (Nuggets), Brandon Bass (Spurs) and the 2nd draft picks of 2017 & 18 leave the team.

Day is over, tomorrow, first game, the journey begins.

        First game, first lost.

        Minnesota Timverwolves (1-0) 120- 117 LA Lakers (0-1)

After a slow start in wich the wolves made a 15 point differential, the Lakers following Diaw´s lead, made an impressive comeback.

An amazing game for the rookie Russell (19-9-7) and for Julius Randle with 19 points too.

A killer three from K- Mart at the buzer from nearly half- court decided the game with a terrefic end for the first game of the season.

        2nd game. The first win:

        LA Lakers (1-1) 106- 82 Sacramento Kings (0-2)

Kobe did it again. An amazing 3rd quarter with 12 points, along with Hibbert´s help on both ends, made the Lakers win the first game of the season, and allow us to watch Logan´style of basketball, doing alternation between the 2-3 and individual defense, combine with fast- fastbreaks, and 20 seconds ball- movement plays. There´s hope for the Lakers fans.

PS. What do you like and dont about this post and team? Appreciate the help!

Lakers Planning To Improve Julius Randle’s Jump Shot
          By Dan Duangdao - 11/27/2015

After a leg injury that ended his rookie season, Julius Randle has shown flashes of his potential after being selected seventh overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2014. With a unique ability to handle the basketball for his size, he has drawn comparisons to Zach Randolph and Lamar Odom.

While Randle has shown his ability to dominate the game with his power and strength, many opponents have backed off of him and forced him to take jumpers.

As a result, the Lakers are working to improve Randle’s jump shot. Tracy Murray, who is currently the team’s shooting coach, believes it will require a lot of work for the second-year forward to unlearn his shot and focus on forming an “L” with his elbow via Bill Oram of the Orange County Register:

“I’m just not sure if he knows how much work it’s going to take to do it,” Murray said.

With Randle looking to improve his jump shot throughout the season, he shares he has not dramatically changed his form for the most part, via Oram:

“It was just learned everywhere I’ve gone,” Randle said. “I haven’t done anything where I’ve changed my shot dramatically. Little things, getting rotations on the ball, getting lift, legs, all that stuff.”

After losing 18 pounds this past off-season, Randle has already established a strong work ethic that will serve him well. While changing his shooting form will be a challenge, adding a reliable jump shot to his skillset will be a nightmare for opponents moving forward.

Along with D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson, Randle is looking to speed up his development in hopes of helping the Lakers return to contention. Although it will take some time, the Lakers have established a young core for the post-Kobe Bryant era.

            Week 2 Games:

A little review at this week games for the Lakers, after a low start, a win in the third game of the week made the Lakers go 2-3 and making sings of progress.

Russell and Randle seem to bo adapting to the game, while Bryant and Diaw are the veterans of each starter and bench teams.

Clarkson is finding his spot at the SG, scoring in ope threes and penetration after P&R.

We are still trying to get Kyle confident at the 1. He allready have 3 games with 6+ assists. Let´s hope he made a step forward.

TRADE ALERT: The LA Lakers officially send MWP; Marcelo Huertas; 2017 & 2018 NBA 2nd Round picks to the Heat in exchange of Tyler Johnson and Josh Richardson.

                J. Richardson was inmediatly cut.

This trade came with the need of SG backup due to Young injury (ankle/ 1-2 weeks).

Another move made later that day came with the signing of Fredette o a 1+1 year deal / 800k$.

                    Is Brown the new Clarkson?

After Young injury and MWP leaving the team, Brown has emerged. After making his first appearence against the Nets (6p), Brown has played the next 4 games, with a team record of 4-1.

In following games, Brown scored 12/8/6/10 points, with 5/7 3PT. So, with that playing by the 2nd rounder, a lot of people are starting to compare him with Jordan Clarkson.

"He´s trying to earn a spot on the rotation, he´s working hard and putting effort, if he keep doing that, he might be a similar case to Clarkson, but first he need to earn more game time and experience on the league" Logan Said.

Let´s see if he can earn the backup SF spot, what would be great news to the Lakers scouting staff, who seem to have been doing a great job whit the last draft selections of Russell, Randle, Clarkson and now, the 3&D SF from Stanford.

                      Roy Hibbert believes

This morning the Lakers and Roy Hibbert agreed in a new deal worth 9,13M$ 2 years, and the team will have the option on a third year 4,13M.

Hibbert believes in the project, and this renovation early in the season, along with the fact that he could have go for more money are a good prove of it.

                      Behind the sign:

The day before the sign, Roy came to Ervin office. He wanted to talk. "I want to stay here Ervin, I´m ready to start talking about a new contract" he said. "We are not wasting more time. We´ll meet tomorrow" Ervin said while standing and streching hands.

Ervin knows the value of Hibbert, good on both ends of the court, he was doing a nice season, "he have to stay".

Hibbert came to the office trying to get 11M 2 years. Ervin was OK with that and he would agree to sign that. But he put some psicological trics on the conversation.

Ervin answered back with the ofert lately sign while telling him what he needed to hear. Hibbert agreed and the deal was done as I lost 1000VC on it (I did my best).

                        Week Resume:

                        Detroit Pistons- LA Lakers

After a few games without being on the 13 selected players, I decided that Fredette will finally play in a game. I dont know what happened there, but he was unstoppable, he made 4/6 3PT a +15 and he also dished out 5 assist. After that game, I had the need to let him play in the second game of the back to back agains the Suns.

                        Spoiler

                        LA Lakers- Phoenix Suns

After scoring 9 in last game, Randle decided to step forward and did an amazing performance, scoring 23 and getting 8 rebounds along with 6 assist. Clarkson and Hibbert helpled with 17 and 15. From the bench, Kyle Anderson scored 10 points and 8 assists proving he´s finally confortable in this PG position. Fredette scored 10 (so happy with him!!!)

                        Toronto Raptors- LA Lakers

Finally, and after winning 5 in a row, we lost against the Raptors. Lowry and DeRozan killed it with 28 and 26 points, while A. Brown scored 15 points, just like Kobe and Russell, who also grab 8 rebounds and 12 assists.

Funny Fact: First game for Sacre who I decided to let play, he scored 11 points and 4 rebounds (!?)

The bad news: Clarkson out 2 weeks and I need help here: Fredette or Tyler Johnson to play starter SG? I would like to keep playing Young with the second unit.

Kyle Anderson progress have the Lakers staff astonished

The Kyle experiment is working good for the Lakers right now. The former Bruin was a PG back in college, but is his 2 NBA years, he never played that position consistently. But Kyle is back at the PG.

He´s size, good pass IQ, and post hability make Anderson and amazing backup PG, he and Diaw run the second unit and this is what Diaw have to say about him: "I´ve been trying to help him develop his game since first year in San Antonio, but this is a new challenge for him, if he can be the consistant PG we want him to be, there´s no limit for him."

It´s not a one day thing change your position, and Kyle knows it: "I work hard every day, when we finish practice, I stay with coach Viti and we work on my ball handling".

Anderson is averaging 6 points and 4 assits a game, but the last game reveal a huge step forward in his game, let´s see what he is capable of.
