NBA 2K16: It's Time to Give MyTeam a Chance

Ever since its introduction on the Dreamcast, NBA 2K has been my favorite sports video game franchise by far. Its bread and butter is, without question, the gameplay. Basketball purists appreciate the realism and extreme attention to detail. This game is quite possibly the most authentic representation of its sport when compared to other franchises. And 2K’s continued focus on improving various gameplay mechanics keeps players coming back year after year.

With gameplay as fun and realistic as 2K’s, it’s easy to get caught up playing exhibition games, ignoring the variety of gameplay modes offered in the 2K series. In fact, my favorite mode to play is exhibition, as I have a yearly series of games with a good friend of mine. We track the final scores from each game and keep track of who’s in the lead. The gameplay mechanics are so diverse that each game feels fresh and exciting.

too bad its pay to win and once you leave the one silver player level in rtpo its no fun because you always get cheesed by melo or la or westbrook everbody uses the same guys every game to win so its pretty much unplayabe when it comes down to it and it was my favorite mode but its not fun because what i just said.i dont understand why they dont make the cheesers play each other instead of ruining every game it has to turn new players away from the mode but they have never cared ive played myteam every since they added it in 13 or 12

Bigs can cover to much ground on defense(they are too fast)

Late contest on laups matter too much.

            Random blocks doing pumpfakes.

Leaning shots for guys who have catch and shoot badge should be removed.

              They really need either

              - get rid of restrictions and just have matchmaking based on lineup quality. Difference between seeds would simply be difficulty/sliders. This would be my preference.

              OR, alternatively,

              - a separate rttp ladder with realistic restrictions. When you reach the 1st seed you're allowed to use a roster based on whatever real historical nba team was the most talented. I have no idea which one that would be but it'll probably be something like 1 diamond, 2 amethyst, 2 gold, 3 silver and the rest bronze. And that's probably being generous. For the lowest seed you'd have restrictions based on the worst roster of all time. And then obviously for the rest of the seeds everything in between those two.

Also, an actual playoffs and finals after rttp would be nice. If they implement those along with the realistic restrictions, just take the restrictions i mentioned for the 1st seed and apply them to the "finals". Then the playoffs and 1st seed get the random in-between restrictions like all the others. If you know what i mean.

I mean, i've been able to win rttp each year with a somewhat realistic team (two stars 90+, 2 80+ and the rest in the 70's/60's, hell... last year half my games in the 1st seed i only used onyx vince and a bunch of hustle/defensive players) but regardless of winning/losing it does get old playing superteam abuser after superteam abuser. To make things worse most of them are usually cheesers as well.

Then of course you have people who say "don't like it, just stay in the 3 gold seeds"... well, i would... IF those seeds were at superstar like the top 2 seeds. In 2k15 for example, the top 2 seeds were by far the easiest for me, even with my relatively underpowered lineup. Simply because cheese (for the most part) is less effective and, most of all, mistakes (bad passes, dribbling into crowds, etc) get punished a lot more at higher difficulty. That's how it was in 2k15 anyway, haven't play that much rttp in 16 yet.

Having the early games set to pro difficult is nauseating. Every game is just a cheese fest

The only thing that's ever tempted me about the mode was the historic players. The last couple of years I'd usually just stick to MyGM and build up my VC bank (12 min qtrs, all 82 gms, doesn't take long) playing my favorite mode and then jump in MyTeam later on to get some cards and see what it offers. Still too much of a grind for me though as I'd rather be pursuing a championship than collecting cards.

I refuse to buy into that trash mode.

Screw ultimate team style modes. I'll never buy into it. Shame there's historic players in the mode that I can't import into My League, the best mode in the game by far.

Yeah the difficulty really should be set to Superstar Simulation on every seed of MyTeam.

The game correctly rewards good basketball decisions on that difficulty. But on the lower difficulties, bad basketball IQ gets bailed out too many times.

Unfortunately, Superstar difficulty doesn't start until Seed 3 of MyTeam.

I play MyTeam alot, and though it is possible to win, the frustration it takes to achieve it takes away most of the fun out of the mode. I know I rarely enjoy it even when I win, because of all the BS I just saw.
