JR was released in Gauntlet today so he should be in packs tomorrow. I have no idea what this is about. This is some crap you should pull towards the end of the games life, not the beginning. We should complain. This is a worse travesty than any PD. smh

They are not selling enough TBT packs, something had to be done; if these cards do really exist.

If these are released its nothing more than a gift to Jamal and JR, has no basis in reality, doesn't belong in the game. What a joke it would be considering all the actual legends they've messed up.

I knew this would happen.

Apparently it's not enough to just have a huge amazing SANDBOX of basketball going back over 50 years. What we "need' is fictional souped-up versions of players....SMFH


While I realize this mode is a 'fantasy mode'...they need to find a way to SEGMENT the mode better - or they are going to LOSE any/all SIM players they have left that play this mode.

If they want to add nonsense like this...whatever. Just give me a WAY to avoid it as a SIM gamer playing MyTeam. I don't want to deal with this garbage. I just want to build teams and play against other like-minded people - not mindless little kids who just want to TURBO around and jack 3's with the CHEESIEST players they can collect!


Like I said, I don't care...if you want to add a fantasy element, go ahead. But give me an option that keeps me separate from it...PLEASE!

Go full blast...shoot...add celebrity cards....cards of fictional movie characters....I don't care. Just don't FORCE me to play against it in MyTeam if I'm looking for a way to use this amazing SANDBOX of basketball to play SIM basketball against other gamers looking to do the SAME.

They are not selling enough TBT packs, something had to be done; if these cards do really exist.

no excuse. if TBT pack sales are low its because of the crap they are releasing....like low rated golds with wack badges. if they want to get sales up, throw a good Amethyst or legit Diamond in there, like Magic or Kareem.

I am gonna do a thread on this one day but I am not against the cards themselves or the actual quest to get every card in the game....my issue is that 2k doesnt regulate the usage. "well thats why people buy the game, so they can get the cards they want and use them" you can still do that if they regulate by overall rating of the team. if you want to use 3 Diamonds and have the rest bronze fine...but with the way this is going, after xmas....guys will have Diamond lineups with Amethysts on the end of the bench. they are killing this mode quickly.

I saw that also brother, I just think they'll adjust him before release. ROTY players were way higher than their release packs when they hit the gauntlet.

I really highly doubt that they'd release JR & J-Crossover as diamonds. I'd lose all hope in MyTeam as a mode if they did. Pray for my everlasting 2K soul.

I'd like to know who's responsible for this. if its the same person that gave us a worthless Glen Rice equipped with Whiteside badges but no shooting ones, then they need to be fired. Thats just turrible.

I agree, but...

Here's the thing...if the TBT packs aren't selling then the 'answer' is NOT to start releasing fictional souped-up super cards to appease the lowest-common-denominator type of 2K gamers.

The cards need to be based at least somewhat in reality. Otherwise, what is the point?

I see both sides of the argument though...

On one end, some of this is the fault of the PLAYERS...they are the ones DEMANDING cheesy, fictional cards like the old Pink Diamonds and Ruby cards with 99 in Speed or 99 in Dunk. On one hand, 2K is just giving them what they WANT.

But...they need to rise above this and realize just because a few brain-dead knuckle draggers on Twitter complain and say the TBT cards 'suck', it doesn't mean everyone thinks that. The squeaky wheel gets the grease...and unfortunately the squeakiest wheels these days on social media are also the DUMBEST.

So...it is a little more complicated. I get that...

Like I've said for a while now...the answer is to give BOTH sets of gamers what they WANT and make BOTH of them happy by segmenting the CHEESY fictional NBA Jam-style gamers from the loyal 2K sim gamers.

It's very simple.

I dont know why great cards have to be cheesy though. You will have legit high rated cards like Kareem, Magic, LBJ, MJ, all diamonds. We dont need anything else. I dont mind a card like Amethyst Scalabrine though. If someone wants to pay 500k for that knowing they cant sell it, thats on them.

One more thing...

I actually think they're doing a good job with some of this year's TBT cards...especially when I look at the list of cards coming down the pipe on 2KMT Central.

Even though guys like myself and others on OperationSports think a Silver '06 Brois Diaw is cool...and a Silver '11 Tyrus Thomas is interesting...or an '07 Varejao would be fun.

The average player out there thinks these cards 'suck' and are 'boring'. They don't want interesting cards that can be used as role players. They want flashy super-cards that can be cheesed with incessantly like it's NBA Jam.

Part of the problem is 2K's fault though....

And that is in how the mode is structured. By the time most of these cards come out...there is little use for them.

RTTP is unrestricted...most players have grinded thru Domination Mode....most of the Challenges are completed...

What else is there for players?

This is why the mode needs a deeper, slower progression mode...whether it's an adjustment to RTTP...or something different.

What you have is cards being slowly released, but people playing thru the mode before most of those cards ever even hit the marketplace. And by that time, they also already have BETTER cards...

The 'pacing' of this mode and the lack of depth are big problems...and a big reason why there is a sort of 'backlash' against how 2K releases these cards.

The actual cards this year are not the problem...for me at least. It's the pacing of the mode...and the lack of depth. This mode should have much more replay-ability to it. Right now, it doesn't.



EDIT - Just to clarify...the missing Badges and mishandling of Historic players is a joke. I wasn't defending that. That needs to be fixed. It's honestly embarrassing.
