    Head Coach D.Geezy

TULANE GREEN WAVE HEAD COACH D.GEEZY'S INTRODUCTORY PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT

Following the resignation of head coach Bob Toledo, Tulane athletic director Rick Dickson moved swiftly in hiring his replacement, D.Geezy. On Monday morning, Geezy held his first press conference since his hiring. Below is the official transcript of the press conference, courtesy of TulaneGreenWave.com.

    -------------------------------------------------

Geezy: Before we get this thing started I just want to first say that I thank Mr. (Tulane athletic director Rick) Dickson for giving me this opportunity. I welcome this challenge and this unique opportunity to help turn around a program that hasn’t had a lot of luck throughout its history. I want to let everyone out there know that we're going to be working extremely hard to turn this program around and establish a tradition and culture here that has not existed in recent history. This will not be the same ol' Green Wave.

Q: What are your thoughts about the timing of the move and how the players and coaches may react to your hiring?

A: Even though I am coming into this head coaching role late in the off-season, I think the players and coaches are already on-board with what I am looking to accomplish. The transition from my perspective has been seamless; I could not have asked for more professionalism from our players and our coaching staff members.

Q: What is your ultimate vision for the style of team you want?

A: I think that it is extremely important to be versatile as a head coach, in particular at this level. By and large, our level sees as much turnover from a personnel standpoint more than any other sports league due to graduation. I think what you’re going to see from us is more of a pro-style, balanced attack. Some games, depending on the opponent, we’re going to be run heavy, and in others we’ll sling it around in the passing game…This is all dependent upon the match-ups each week presents. It is very difficult to be a consistent winner when you are too one-dimensional this day and age. You'll see a lot of principles of the West Coast offense with a little bit of vertical stuff and power-rushing stuff sprinkled in.

Now with all of that being said, myself and our staff does recognize that playing indoors presents us with situations we can and will take advantage of in regards to the passing game, but we will not commit to being a team that can only beat you one way.

Defensively you'll probably see us utilize a multitude of packages however you'll see a lot of Tampa-2 principles applied. We’ll pick our spots where we want to blitz but first and foremost, we want to make this defense one that is technically sound and always in the right place. There’s a phrase, “Jack of all trades, master of none”….well I want us to master an approach rather than jumping right in and being an aggressive blitzing team that gives up a multitude of big plays.

Q: How can this team be fixed as far as on-the-field, game-plan wise?

A: Looking at last year’s film, I felt we have been a little careless in regards to turning the ball over and giving up too many big plays. This is going to be a big part of our weekly points of emphasis. Let’s face it, we’re not Texas and we’re not Florida so we cannot afford to beat ourselves. We have to do the little things correctly and soundly to win.

Another thing we need to do is improve our kicking game. Something I will pride myself in is working with our special teams units to make this hopefully one of the nation’s best units and in fact, the entire staff will be involved with this.

Q: How “hands-on” will you be with the offense, defense, special teams?

A: I will have input in all areas. In my opinion, a head coach of a football team should not be solely focused on one area or another. He should be more of a CEO type and have a role with everything with his team. I will be the play-caller on offense but will have a strong say in what we do on defense and will also play a very big part with special teams. Our entire staff will have a big role in special teams because it deserves that attention.

Q: You being a native New Orleanian and being able to watch and observe Tulane’s football program over the years, what are the areas you feel need improving from a non-football perspective?

A: One thing I have always felt from a personal standpoint is that there seems to be sort of a disconnect between the school and the city of New Orleans, including our home venue, the Superdome. We have some of the most passionate football fans down here in New Orleans and we need to make Green Wave football matter to them. Playing in the Dome, we have the opportunity here to have one of the best and most unique homefield advantages in all of college football. We have to figure out ways to get butts in seats and give people something to be excited about. That comes with winning and with winning comes good recruiting classes and with that you establish tradition. It will take time, but that is our goal here.

Q: How do you plan to fix that disconnect between the city and the team?

A: First and foremost we need to get out into the city and show our faces more publicly. There is still a lot of work to be done down here in New Orleans after Katrina and now with the oil spill & one of the things this program is going to do is dedicate time towards that. On another note, you’ve probably already seen it but we’re going to incorporate the Fleur De Lis symbol with this school because that is the symbol of this city and we’re here to represent it.

We're also going to do a better job of marketing ourselves as New Orleans' team and will emphasize this when entertaining recruits and when advertising ourselves publicly.

Q: Many say that the Superdome is an extremely sterile and sometimes “boring” environment for college football. Can that be changed?

A: I kind of alluded to this earlier but that is something that comes with winning. Granted there are things we can do as a program to make the mood and atmosphere at our games better. This helps us succeed and win on the football field so I will be involved in that. One thing we’re doing is making sure all of our fans wear green or blue to our games. If you’re not dressed in green and blue, we’ll make sure you get a t-shirt at the gate. The Tulane signage at the Dome needs to increase as well during our games. The small things such as that will build unity with the fans and players and help us identify more with the Superdome rather than just be a team playing in the home of the Saints.

We will also do a better job of reaching out to our alumni and getting them out to games as well as increasing our efforts to get our student body to the games possibly through incentives; But eventually, we want them to come on their own.

We're going to make our ticket prices more family-friendly and we're going to improve our attendance to make our football team better and give people of this city and this school something to be proud of.

Q: How do you feel about this team’s prospects going into the 2010 season?

A: I’m not big on predictions but I’ll give you this…We have a solid nucleus to build around on both sides of the ball.

I think we have a heck of a young quarterback in Ryan Griffin and we can succeed with him leading the way along with the great coaching this staff will provide.

We’re going to compete every single week and our goal from day 1 here is to win championships. The immediate goal is to win a conference championship, and that starts right now, not two or three years from now.

Q: Last question...Could you tell me briefly in just a few sentences how you are going to sell Tulane to a recruit?

A: I would tell that recruit that we are building a foundation here that we would like them to be a part of. We will only go after high-character guys that are smart & intelligent both on the field and off the field.

I would sell the city of New Orleans and the opportunity to be a part of not just the team's rebirth but the city's rebirth.

I would sell the fact that on the field we're going to come as close as any team in the nation to the pro game in terms of scheme both offensively and defensively. We're here to win games but we're also here to train players to hopefully extend their career to the next level. So if you want to learn the pro game and be around a head coach and staff members that have been in and around the National Football League, coming here is a great option. We've had some success in the past here in terms of getting guys to the next level. Shaun King, Mewelde Moore, Matt Forté, Patrick Ramsey, and J.P. Losman are just a few of our success stories and we'll look to continue and grow in that regard.

Lastly and most importantly, here at Tulane you're going to get one of the best educations this country has to offer & myself and our coaching staff will see to it that this remains the #1 priority above and beyond anything.

USC| Trojans football program wins appeal
      Fri, 23 Jul 2010 7:11:49 -0700
Pat Forde of ESPN.com reports that in a shocker, the NCAA has significantly reduced its sanctions against the USC Trojans football program in its appeals ruling. The team will no longer face a 2-year bowl ban and the number of lost scholarships has been reduced from 30 to an undisclosed number. The Trojans' brass maintained from the outset that they did not feel that the punishment fit the school's crime and apparently the NCAA has complied in reaching today's resolution. The team will still be forced to vacate all wins in which former Trojans RB Reggie Bush participated in as an inelgible player, including its 2005 National Championship, however they will no longer face the stiff sanctions imposed for the future. According to sources involved in the appeal, the NCAA compliance oversight committee ruled that USC's lack of knowledge on the Bush scandal prevented them from acting on the situation.

NCAA | Dreadlocks, long hair banned
      Fri, 23 Jul 2010 7:11:49 -0700
Erin Andrews of ESPN.com reports that citing safety concerns, the NCAA football rules committee has past a last minute rule which bans all long hair that comes out of the back of players' helmets. The rule will go into effect starting with the 2010 regular season. Violations will be dealt with in the same manner as any other uniform violation.

Game 1, Year 1 (2010 season): Southeastern Lions at Tulane Green Wave

        41 -- 1-0
        34 -- 0-1 F/OT

Southeastern completes a 6-yard scoring pass to take a 41-34 lead in overtime.

ILL-TIMED TURNOVERS LEAD TO TULANE LOSING IN UPSET FASHION TO SOUTHEASTERN IN OPENER

RB Williams shines with over 200 yards for Green Wave but two costly fumbles, including one in overtime, seals Tulane's fate | QB Griffin leaves game in second quarter with rib injury | Team needs quick improvements with Ole Miss next up

New Orleans, LA -- Well it could be a long year Tulane fans...Despite gashing the Southeastern Lions for 254 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, the Tulane Green Wave fell at home to the FCS opponent 41-34 in overtime in both school's season opener. Southeastern completed a 6-yard scoring pass in the first possession in overtime to take the lead in the extra session.

Tulane RB Albert Williams, who finished with a game-high 217 yards on 25 carries, fumbled away his team's chances on the very next possession to end the game. Williams had two fumbles in the contest, the first coming with 2:04 remaining in regulation and with Tulane backed up in their own territory attempting to melt the clock holding on to a 34-31 lead. Southeastern would go on to kick a 17-yard field goal with 0:25 remaining to send the game into overtime.

The Green Wave were without starting QB Ryan Griffin for the majority of the game as the sophomore signal caller left the game with a rib injury and did not return however he is expected to be available for next week's contest. Redshirt junior QB Joe Kemp completed the game for Griffin but struggled going 5 of 12 for 74 yards while throwing just one touchdown and two interceptions.

Southeastern's quarterback on the other hand went 26 of 32 for 352 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.

"We knew coming in that we weren't going to just show up and win this game," said Tulane debut head coach D.Geezy.

"This just goes to show that if you don't take care of the football and play sound defense, you will lose. There is a whole lot of improvement to be made on both sides of the ball. Regardless of our quarterback being out, we have to play better football."

Tulane (0-1) will host Ole Miss (1-0) next week at the Louisiana Superdome.

I used Tulane in an Online Dynasty last year and within four years I had them up to a 5 star program, they are so fun to build up. I have Joe Kemp, Devin Figaro, Casey Robottom all added on facebook too haha.
Thanks for the feedback...Don't quite know what to say about the Facebook stuff. Sounds kind of psycho talker-ish haha

Tulane is garbage man. This is going to be a long first year.

Yeah I am thinking it may take two good recruiting classes to turn this thing around. This roster is easily the worst I have ever had.

Griffin will be back for the next game thankfully. Kemp was terrible.

Thanks for the props on presentation. I've been putting together my dynasty page for about 3 weeks and was waiting for the rosters before rolling it out.

A lot of the errors were my own fault but it is definitely discouraging giving up so many points to the FCS West squad. I'm going to have to work extra hard if I want to have any shot of beating Ole Miss.

I was really surprised at how ineffective the passing game was for me. I guess the fact that my starter has a 68 rating and his back-up is a 58 may have something to do with it. One thing is for sure, looks like a long year is ahead.

The sad thing is Tulane may actually lose this game in real life. The team is as bad in real life this year as they are on the game.

That sounds like a good competition for you and me. Right now, I would put the money on you. These next 3 games look like they may be tough to pull out.

Game 2, Year 1 (2010 season): Ole Miss Rebels at Tulane Green Wave

            31 -- 2-0
            10 -- 0-2

Ole Miss RB Enrique Davis scores on a toss play from three yards out to give the Rebels an early 7-0 lead that they would never relinquish.

TULANE OVER-POWERED BY REBELS IN 31-10 HOME BEATING

Ole Miss RB Bolden's 192 yard effort too much for Green Wave to overcome | Tulane offense sputters despite strong effort from TE Helm | Team limps into Conference USA opener versus Houston in 0-2 hole

The Tulane Green Wave were blown out by the Ole Miss Rebels 31-10 on Saturday at the Louisiana Superdome. Ole Miss RB Brandon Bolden carved up the Green Wave secondary, carrying the football 25 times for a game-high 192 yards and a touchdown. Bolden's 78-yard touchdown run with 2:27 remaining in the game put it away at 31-10.

The Green Wave offense had trouble moving the football all afternoon and finished with 283 total yards, which mostly came in the fourth quarter versus the Rebels prevent defense. RB Albert Williams was stuffed all afternoon on the ground, gaining just 27 yards on 13 carries.

"This was a very tough opponent for us to compete with and it just goes to show you how far we have to go," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"With that said, we came in here believing that we can win this thing so it is disappointing. We'll just have to lick our wounds and re-group for next week."

Tulane (0-2, 0-0) will open up Conference USA play versus #19 Houston (3-0, 1-0) next week on the road.

Also, I too have noticed how hard it is to pass on Heisman. My pass offense is AWFUL. It's either an INT or an incompletion.
I feel myself getting better at it. I just needed to adjust to the speed of the game. It still isn't where I would like it to be but I think it'll improve once my personnel improves.

This may be my toughest task yet. Recruiting seems awfully difficult this year, which is a good thing. I may still be merely playing for CUSA titles 4 or 5 seasons from now on this game.

I think Houston is beatable. Looking at their personnel, they have a handul of 2-3 superstars but then the rest of their players are very ordinary, some even as bad as my own players.

Here's hoping that you can slow down the Cougars passing-attack!
I don't know what else to say other than this team is not very good. Helm did have a pretty good game though. I am chasing a 3-star tight end named Jeff Valentine so hopefully he liked what he saw because he'll be the starter next year if I get him.

Houston star QB Case Keenum completes a desperation 70-yard touchdown heave to WR Patrick Edwards with just 1:22 remaining, giving the Cougars a 48-41 advantage. The electric touchdown completion came just one play after an overturned call on a fumble in which Tulane recovered.

TULANE LOSES TO #19 HOUSTON IN HEARTBREAKING FASHION 48-41

After scoring 20 unanswered points to take a 41-40 advantage, coverage lapse dooms Green Wave in Conference USA opener | Despite impressive effort offensively, Tulane falls to 0-3

Houston, TX -- Houston Heisman hopeful Case Keenum proved his value leading the 19th ranked Cougars to a 48-41 win over the Tulane Green Wave in a see-saw battle. Keenum's heroic 70-yard touchdown completion to WR Patrick Edwards with 1:22 remaining gave Houston its seven point advantage in which they held onto to defeat the winless Green Wave.

The game-winning pass completion came just one play after a fumble by Houston RB Bryce Beall that was recovered by Tulane DB Taylor Echols with 1:38 left which would have all but ended the game. However a booth review revealed that Beall was down by contact, resulting in a reversed call.

""It was a close call on the fumble but in the end, we cannot blame the game on that,"" said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

""There is no excuse for a guy getting behind the defensive backs like that. We have to play better defensively. We're going to watch the film and make changes on that side of the ball if we have to. It is unacceptable for us to lose games in which we score 41 points.""

Tulane would get one last chance to tie the game on the ensuing possession and drove all the way down to the Houston 30-yard line with less than a minute to play. However, facing a 4th and 10, Tulane QB Ryan Griffin threw an interception to Cougars LB Sammy Brown, ending all hopes for the Wave.

Houston (4-0) surrendered 20 unanswered points to the Green Wave after gaining a 40-21 third quarter advantage. Green Wave CB Phillip Davis' two fumble recoveries, including one pass that was ruled a lateral in which he returned for a touchdown, put the Green Wave right back in the game. In the end though, Keenum was too much for Tulane to handle, going 22 of 26 for 360 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Tulane (0-3) will travel to face Rutgers (2-1) next week on the road.

Yeah I'm glad that is the last time I'll have to deal with him though I am sure they'll get another stud QB at some point soon.

Yeah that was a fun game and we certainly showed improvement. If I could just figure out how to play some defense!

We're hitting our stride as an offense. I have a good feeling about this Rutgers game. I wish we could play better D but if our offense could keep playing this well, we should always at least be in the game.

I thought it was finally the year I could get away with using my favorite team, Michigan, because they kinda suck in real life and all that, but I see at least two Michigan dynasties have started here, so now I don't know.

I prefer a bad team in a power conference. You play teams you get excited to see, it's more of a challenge than rising up in a weak conference, etc. Some of the teams in that category I've either already used or don't get excited about. Illinois appears to be the lowest-rated team in the Big Ten. They play in a really cool stadium. That's a possibility. Or I could just go the mid-major route and eventually get invited into a power conference just about the time you're getting tired of seeing the same old teams. Since I've hardly touched the game yet, I haven't really given it much thought - other than ruling out Michigan now.

Great to see so many familiar screen names here. Hopefully this place blows up and becomes THEE site on the Web to post 'nasties and 'chises.
Yeah I feel you on the small schools in a big conference thing. It basically came down to Tulane and Vanderbilt (a team I used in the past right before I started writing dynasty reports).

In the end, I decided I wanted to do something different and wanted a bigger challenge. I had never thought of using Tulane before despite them being my hometown team. They were ranked 115th at the start of the dynasty, a 1-star school, and in a not so great conference...the perfect combination of difficulty. The only thing I got going for me is that I can recruit in Louisiana and Texas is a pipeline state so the recruiting ground is pretty fertile.

My hope is that barring me getting fired after one year, I can get this team back into the SEC like they used to be back in the day. I dream of facing the likes of LSU, Alabama, and Florida in the Dome one day.

First things first though...I need to win a friggin game.

Thanks for the reply man. I definitely encourage you to try it out. It adds a lot to your dynasty both in terms of being able to track things years down the road and it is also fun to have an audience along for the ride.

                    38 -- 3-1

Rutgers QB Tom Savage completes a 49-yard bomb to WR Timothy Wright with 1:09 remaining in the game to give the Scarlet Knights the go-ahead touchdown, putting them ahead at 38-35. Left in one on one coverage, Tulane senior CB Phillip Davis seemingly lost track of the ball in-flight and Wright easily won the jump-ball situation.

It's another week & another blown late fourth quarter lead as Tulane falls 38-35 at Rutgers | Green Wave gives up another deep pass in final moments in defeat, falls to 0-4 | Team loses despite spectacular rushing effort from RB Williams | QB Griffin hurt again

New Brunswick, NJ -- The Tulane Green Wave, for the second time in as many weeks, gave up a long pass play on their way to defeat. This time it was Rutgers QB Tom Savage that found WR Timothy Wright for a 49-yard touchdown pass with 1:09 remaining, giving the Scarlet Knights a 38-35 win over the Green Wave. Savage's heroics came on a 4th and 16 desperation heave.

Tulane had just grabbed a 35-30 lead by virtue of a 68-yard touchdown run by RB Payten Jason against the porous Rutgers run defense with 2:08 remaining, however the lead was short-lived.

"I honestly am at a lost for words for how we keep allowing this to happen on that side of the ball each week," said Green Wave head coach D. Geezy.

"They did a vertical stretch play where they sent 3 guys deep and one guy short. It was a 4th and 16 so we didn't want to go with an all-out prevent to defend the goal line because we felt we needed to get a stop right there to end the game. There should have been help over the top on that play but the assignment was busted. With that said, we probably could have made a better play on the ball while it was in the air."

The Green Wave (0-4) lost despite a strong rushing effort by junior RB Albert Williams. Williams, who left the game late in the third quarter due to what is being called by Geezy as a minor rib injury, finished the day with 234 rushing yards and three touchdowns (runs of 73, 82, and 22 yards) on just 14 carries. Williams has 630 rushing yards on the year along with 7 touchdowns. After he left the game, his replacements picked up right where he left off.

Freshman RB Orleans Darkwa finished with 75 yards, including a 40-yard third quarter touchdown to give Tulane its first lead of the game. And Jasen, the team's sophomore third string running back, scored what could have been a game-winning 68-yard touchdown on his lone carry.

""We're encouraged by how well our offense has progressed these last several weeks,"" said Geezy.

""Now it is up to us as coaches to figure out how to get this defense turned around. At 0-4, we really need to get something going here to string together some wins and salvage this season.

Tulane will host Army (2-3) next week at the Louisiana Superdome.

Notes: Tulane played most of the game without starting QB Ryan Griffin, who left the game early in the first quarter with a shoulder injury. Redshirt junior Joe Kemp finished the game for Griffin, his second time doing so in the team's first four games. Geezy indicated in his post-game press conference however that Griffin would be available for next week's game, as would Williams.

                      TULANE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM

From: D. Geezy, Head Football Coach
                      To: Rick Dickson, Athletic Director
                      Re: Commitments/Upcoming Visits
                      Date: Monday, September 27, 2010

                      ________________________________________________

                      Rick -

We have received a pair of commitments from prospects to attend our university in the fall. Below is brief analysis of each player:

                      Committments

                      DT Joe Hogan
                      Caliber:
Analysis: With us losing three seniors at defensive tackle, including starter Justin Adams (68), we clearly made signing players at this position a priority. Joe offers us good size and run-stuffing ability so he should come right in and compete for playing time in the fall since we'll be low on numbers at that position.

                      MLB Shelton Babcock
                      Caliber:
Analysis: As you already know Rick, Shelton gave us a committment back in week 1. He took our scholarship offer on the spot. We are extremely thin at middle linebacker, with redshirt sophomore Trent Mackey (60 ovr) & freshmen Andre Robinson (60 ovr), so he has a tremendous chance to come in and possibly start for us despite his 2-star rating.

As we briefly discussed, we will have a total of nine (9) prospects visiting us for our upcoming home game versus Army.

Please find below the details of each individual coming to visit us:

I'm loving the difficulty setting because it has been a challenge. For a school like Tulane, 0-4 is a very strong possibility and it really should be difficult for me to win. I am actually a little worried about how well I am scoring though. I didn't expect to be putting up this many points so early, especially with this personnel.

I feel good about this Army game. Looking at their depth chart, I think we stack up pretty nicely. With all the recruits we have coming in for this game, we better put on a good show.

I really need to figure out how to get this win. It is officially panic time in the Big Easy.

I am pretty excited about this group visiting. I think there could be about 2-3 starters within them. The TE Valentine, the LB Dickson, and the DE Wood all look solid.

I am pretty excited about Hogan. He really has a good chance to play immediately since our d-line is so poor.

My defense really let me down through those first 4 games...The big plays at the worst possible moments are killing us. We're two plays away from being a 2-2 team.

Babcock may start by default since the only guys at his position are both 60 overall. I am not sure what to expect with a 2-star player in this year's game though. He's liable to come in rated in the 40s for all I know.

TULANE FINALLY PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF THE GEEZY ERA, OUTLASTS ARMY 17-7

After weeks of giving up tons of points, Green Wave defense gets the job done | Team builds momentum headed into season-ending stretch of Conference USA games | Wave to travel to Tulsa next week

New Orleans -- The Tulane Green Wave put together an unspectacular yet solid performance in defeating the Army Black Knights 17-7 Saturday at the Louisiana Superdome. Green Wave FB Jordan Stephany's 1-yard touchdown run and QB Ryan Griffin's 44-yard touchdown strike to WR Casey Robottom in the third quarter put the game out of reach.

The Green Wave defense had by far its best performance of the year, surrendering just one touchdown after giving up 158 points (39.5 ppg) through their first four games. Sophomore FS Shakiel Smith led the Green Wave defense, amassing 9 total tackles to go along with a big fourth quarter interception to put the game away.

"It feels great to get this first win under our belt," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy following his first win as the team's head coach.

"Hopefully this energizes us and our fan base as we make our way deep into conference play. We need to string together a few wins here and continue to making up ground after our poor start."

The Black Knights (2-4) played most of the game without starting QB Trent Steelman, who left the game in the first quarter with what has been diagnosed as a broken collarbone. The injury will keep him out for 12 weeks. Back-up QB Chip Bowden was solid in his place however and went 15 of 23 for 226 yards and one touchdown with one interception.

The Green Wave got another solid performance out of RB Albert Williams. The junior runner carried the ball 22 times for 100 yards though he did have two costly first half fumbles.

"We have to continue to work on protecting the football because we will not always be able to get away with putting the ball on the turf like we did today," said Geezy.

"With that said, a win is a win and at this point we are not interested in style points."

Tulane (1-4) will travel to face Tulsa (2-4) next week on the road.

Yeah...Pretty amazing that some of these issues get past so many people. If I were as inefficient on a project I worked year around on such as this game, I surely would be fired. Great game, yes. But too many inexcusable design flaws & errors such as that one.

Anyway...It definitely feels good to finally get on the board with a W. I now need to put a streak together to try to salvage this season.

You need to get this one because it is really the best NCAA ever IMO.

Cheese - I think we have a good chance to win several conference games. Looking at their rosters, they're not all that impressive.

Robottom is definitely an eye catcher. I am finally starting to get the passing game going and he's been a major factor. On a sidenote, my 8-yr old son calls him Robot Tom when he watches me play.

The defense really stepped up in this one but then again, it was against a back-up QB in a limited option offense. Progress is progress though and this is something to build on.

Analysis: Rick, this player is someone I had my eye on from the moment we got this process started. He may not be flashy on paper but from the outset we targeted this guy. We really want to make the tight end position a focal point of our offense and Jeff fits the bill. He could possibly be a day one starter for us with our current starter, Tyler Helm, set to graduate. He was sold on Tulane and our plans early on in the process and in the end, the visit was just a formality. The staff is very excited about this player. With his 6-5 frame, he will be a heck of a red zone target.

This brings our total number of hard committments to three (3):

We got a soft commit from a player, OLB Martin Dickson (LA). He is a bit of a unique player in that he could play both defensive end and outside linebacker. We're excited about the soft committment but also very guarded. As we both know, a soft commit is really not a committment.

Here is a breakdown of where we stand with all of our recent players that visited. I will update you later on our other targets:

Yeah I think so. There is another prospect or two I am looking at for tight ends but they're long-shots. This will probably end up being my guy.

Congrats on Valentine! Good speed for a tight end. I'd like to see you sneak up and snag that DT Barrett.

Yeah I got a good shot with Barrett. I'm not trailing La Tech by much. It would be great to get to team him up with Hogan down the road.
