Yessir. Going to enjoy this last game for sure because next year looks like it will be a rebuilding year.

I actually have my eye on Mississippi State. They have struggled in my dynasty and are down to 1-star prestige. I think they won 3 games this past season.

Going 3-1 against the SEC, almost beating a top 10 LSU team, double-digit wins....I think we're building up quite a case for a promotion back into the SEC.

Tulane to the SEC baby! Lets mow down Kentucky!
Great win over UCF. Byrd had a huge game, and no turnovers which is a huge step in the right direction for him. Even though Kentuckey has the better team on paper, I think you should get by them fairly easily, thus giving the SEC more reason to want you. Good luck man!
Good luck in the bowl game.....hopefully this can be an audition for the SEC

Let's not count our chickens before they hatch. I am nervous about getting the invite after reading up on how hard it is in this year's game.

I do however think that it is all but mandatory that I win this game in order to secure a POSSIBLE invite. This in essence, is the biggest game in this dynasty's short history thus far.

Thanks Cheese...Byrd seems to be coming into his own. He had a slump there towards the end of the season while he was playing hurt and this was his first game that he has truely been 100%. He had been listed as ""probable"" and ""questionable"" over the last several games with a shoulder injury.

I can't wait to see where his Tulane career winds up!

Thanks for the feedback all...Time to fire up the game!"

Tulane | FS Smith wins Bednarik, Thorpe Awards
      Fri, 14 Dec 2012 7:11:49 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that Tulane senior FS Shakiel Smith, following a stellar final season in New Orleans, is this year's winner of the Bednarik and Thorpe Awards, given annually to the nation's top defender and top defensive back, respectively. Smith, who will be playing in his final game at Tulane when they face Kentucky in the Liberty Bowl, finished the 2012 season with a nation-high 90 solo tackles, 5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown. The 5-11 194 pound Louisiana native, who also won the 2010 Thorpe Award, is unquestionably one of the top talents in the nation and is expected to go high in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft. ""'Shak' is a special player and it was fun watching him grow into the man he is today,"" said Tulane head coach D. Geezy. "I have no doubt that this young man will make an impact at the next level and it will be difficult to replace a player like this. He surely deserves these awards."

      ________________________________

An errant pitch by Tulsa QB Shavodrick Beaver results in a loose football that gets recovered by Tulane FS Shakiel Smith back in week 13 of this season. The senior then takes the recovery 29 yards for a touchdown that increased Tulane's lead to 17-6 in the second quarter in an eventual 41-13 road victory.

One word...Beast (I guess it helps that I use the FS on about 80% of the plays). Even still though, I notice a major drop off whenever the back-up FS is in there.

Thanks man...Shak is actually one of the few remaining real guys. Next year will be the big year where all the recruits start to play a major role. I am actually concerned about the team for next year.

          N/R 46 -- `6-7
          #20 52 -- 12-2 F/2OT

TOP: Tulane RB Orleans Darkwa takes a handoff, spins out of a three-man gang tackle, and goes 47 yards to the house. The spectacular run cut the Green Wave's deficit to 24-21 just before halftime. BOTTOM: In the game's second overtime period, Kentucky faced a 3rd and 10 from the 25-yard line. QB Morgan Newton attempted to hit WR E.J. Fields on a slant route but the pass sailed on him and was easily intercepted by Green Wave CB Ryan Travis. The senior defensive back, playing in his final collegiate game, then took the pick 91 yards for a game-winning walk-off touchdown that made the score 52-46.

LATE SCORING BLIZZARD BY GREEN WAVE RESULTS IN 52-46 DOUBLE-OVERTIME WIN OVER KENTUCKY IN SNOWY LIBERTY BOWL

Tulane scores 21 points in final 2:23 to force OT, wins on 91-yard interception return by senior CB Travis on game's final play | QB Byrd takes advantage of porous Wildcats secondary, throws for a career-high 445 yards and 5 touchdowns as team wins first bowl game since 2002 | Host of seniors rise to the occasion in their final game at Tulane

Memphis, TN -- The 20th ranked Tulane Green Wave, playing outside the comfy confines of the Louisiana Superdome and in the midst of Memphis winter snow storm, got three late fourth quarter touchdowns and a heroic overtime play from a senior cornerback on their way to a 52-46 double overtime win over Kentucky in the Liberty Bowl on New Years Eve. Green Wave CB Ryan Travis intercepted Kentucky QB Morgan Newton in the game's second overtime and returned the ball 91 yards for a game-winning touchdown on the final play of the contest. The interception was the first and in effect only of the first year starter's career.

Tulane, who trailed 43-24 with 2:38 to play, went on an amazing 28-3 run to finish the game that featured three touchdown passes by QB Curtis Byrd.

Byrd's first touchdown pass went 82 yards to WR Devin Figaro on a deep post route that made the score 43-31 with 2:23 to go in the game. The team would fail to recover the ensuing onsides kick however, giving Kentucky the ball with 2:21 to go.

The Wildcats (6-7) would go three and out but were able to take advantage of the great field position and come away with a 50-yard field goal by PK Joe Mansour that made the score 46-31 with 3:03 remaining.

"Without question, that defensive stop was the reason we won the ball game," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"They get a first down there, game over."

The Green Wave would make them pay. On the team's ensuing possession following the Kentucky field goal, Byrd would direct a quick, four play drive that culminated with a 26-yard scoring toss to WR D.J. Banks that made the score 46-38. Banks, a senior playing in his final game at Tulane, finished the day with 5 receptions for a season-high 210 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Green Wave this time would recover the onsides kick following the score when the ball bounced off the hands of a Kentucky hands-teamer and into the waiting arms of senior FS Shakiel Smith, the recent recipient of the Bednarik and Thorpe awards .

"It wasn't until this point that we began to believe and say to ourselves that 'Hey, we could really do this,"" said Geezy.

And that they did...Following a sack and a pass completion to the 45-yard line that forced a third down, Byrd would hit Figaro again on a deep strike. The senior wideout this time would bobble the ball briefly but eventually corral it and take it the distance for a 55-yard touchdown that made the score 46-44 with 0:12 remaining and a two-point conversion attempt pending.

On the conversion, Byrd would find Banks on a crossing pattern for a wide-open score to send the game into overtime at 46-46.

The sophomore signal-caller finished the game 21 of 31 for a career-high 445 yards and 5 touchdowns. Figaro also had one of the finer performances of his career, hauling in 4 receptions for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns in his final game at Tulane.

"That was one of the most heart-pounding moments of my career, as both a coach and a player," said Geezy.

Tulane finished the game with a whopping 561 total offensive yards and Kentucky finished with 417 yards.

"We knew we had a lot of good matchups versus their secondary and contrary to popular belief, the conditions today actually gives the advantage to the offense," said Geezy.

"Receivers know where they're going but the defenders don't. There were guys slipping and sliding all over the place today."

In the first overtime, the two teams would trade possessions and each faltered, suffering from penalties and sacks resulting in a rare scoreless overtime session. All it did however was set up Travis' late heroics on the first possession of the second overtime which gave Tulane its first bowl win since the 2002 season when they defeated Hawaii 36-28 in the Hawaii Bowl.

"Without question, I think we proved to America and to ourselves that there is no quit in this football team," said Geezy.

"This is a special group of players and we thoroughly enjoyed taking the field together as one for this final game. Hats off to these players. There were several seniors today that stepped up and came away with big plays to go out as winners here at Tulane."

The Green Wave, the 2012 Conference USA Champion, finishes the season with a 12-2 record, their first double-digit win season since the team's undefeated 1998 campaign.

Notes: WR D.J. Banks' 210-yard performance gives him 1,286 receiving yards on the season, vaulting him past former Tulane WR Marc Zeno, for the school's single season receiving yards record set in 1987...Tulane is expected to finished ranked in a national poll for the first time since 1998, when the team finished #7 in both the AP and Coaches' Top 25 poll...Green Wave PK Ryan Rome suffered a dislocated elbow in the first half of Monday's game on a kickoff, forcing P Jonathan Ginsburgh into place-kicking duties. Ginsburgh made his only field goal attempt, a 48 yarder in the third quarter, and connected on all three of his extra point attempts.

Definitely...It was a pleasant surprise. The artwork was well-done by EA and it really felt like a snow game with guys slipping all over the place. My only complaint is that the screenshots came out all blue looking because of the poor contrast.

Thanks man...I knew once I saw the snow that this one was definitely going to be a classic.

Shak is amazing and will be missed. My 2-star beast ATH Will Washington, who played nickle back this past year, will likely fill the role next season.

Yeah I thought this one deserved the #1 ranking.

My upset over #6 Ole Miss early in the year is #2, and my year 1 game against Rice is #1 (I scored on a long 80-yard bomb with like 0:08 left or something like that). All of my Classics can be viewed here:

He will be sorely missed next season. I am crossing my fingers that that SEC invitation is on its way but I have heard its pretty hard in this year's game. Needless to say though, I'd say it's safe to say it is only a matter of time at this point. Looking forward to the offseason, looks like the receiving corps and defense could take a hit. Good luck!
I am so pumped to see how Byrd progresses in the off-season. It is always fun to watch a QB grow from his freshman year to his junior year. I think he is ready to take that next step and become a big-time passer & runner as a junior.

I also heard that it is difficult to get the invite so I am not going to get my hopes up. If it happens, it happens. If not, I will just have to whoop up on the CUSA some more while also scheduling some sexier out-of-conference games.

Thanks man...This has definitely been an interesting experience rolling with a non-BCS team. Hopefully I can get Tulane to the level of a Boise State or TCU.

Thanks man! We came up a lot quicker than I thought but obviously that's a good thing.

Yeah I am really looking forward to seeing the now-veteran Byrd as a junior and senior. I can feel him growing up as I control him.

Tulane | Geezy turns down offer from Georgia Tech
                          Tue, 8 Jan 2013 7:11:49 -0700
Erin Andrews of ESPN.com reports that Tulane head coach D. Geezy was made an offer in recent days by Georgia Tech to be the school's head coach however the fourth year coach turned the offer down. ""We are building something special here and I don't plan to leave anytime soon,"" said Geezy, who last year signed a contract extension that takes him through the 2015 season. "This is my city and my home and something just feels right about being a part of this program. I feel like we are one step away from being a major player on the national landscape."

Tulane Green Wave Graduating Class of 2012

TOP: In one of the signature moments of this past season, WR D.J. Banks catches a game-winning 80-yard touchdown pass from QB Curtis Byrd, giving Tulane a 24-20 lead with 0:50 remaining in their upset victory over #6 Ole Miss in week 2. BOTTOM: An errant pitch by Tulsa QB Shavodrick Beaver results in a loose football that gets recovered by Tulane FS Shakiel Smith back in week 13 of this season. The senior then takes the recovery 29 yards for a touchdown that increased Tulane's lead to 17-6 in the second quarter in an eventual 41-13 road victory.

The back-up plan is to either use the punter Ginsburgh at kicker and/or my new freshman kicker, who will be revealed shortly. He'll probably be redshirted though.

Damn SEC, you'll get in there. Just have another season like you did in year 3. That should put you in the top 10. I think you guys couild definitely replace Vandy. Nobody likes them.....
I hated to let him leave but rules are rules.

I am indeed pretty desperate to get into the SEC but at the same time, I do not mind whoopin' up on the CUSA teams for another year and being sort of the Boise State of Conference USA.
