    27 -- 4-1 (2-1)
    41 -- 2-2 (1-1)

TOP: After holding Houston to a three and out on their first possession, Tulane freshman OLB Mark Richards puts a halt to the Cougars' second drive with this spectacular leaping interception. The play put the Green Wave in position to extend their early lead to 10-0 in the first quarter. BOTTOM: Tulane freshman QB Anthony High does a play-action fake and hits redshirt sophomore FB Simon Parker for a tight-rope touchdown that made the score 27-6 just before halftime. The score was both High's first career touchdown pass and Parker's first career touchdown.

QB HIGH, RB DARKWA LEAD OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION AS TULANE EARNS PIVOTAL 41-27 VICTORY OVER HOUSTON

Despite a few expected mistakes, freshman quarterback finishes with 297 yards and 2 touchdown passes in successful debut | Darkwa gains 241 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns as Green Wave cruises past previously unbeaten Cougars to end two-game losing skid | Team hopes to duplicate effort next week at home against UTEP

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave stormed out to a 34-6 lead and held off a late Houston rally to win 41-27 Saturday at the Louisiana Superdome. Freshman QB Anthony High, making the first start of his career, finished the game 15 of 27 for 297 yards along with 2 touchdowns. High also threw 3 interceptions during the contest however the former 3-star recruit from Texas displayed tremendous playmaking ability, extending pass plays with his feet and also using his 4.4 speed to pick up critical first downs throughout the game. He finished with 20 rushing yards, a total that would have been higher if not for three sacks.

RB Orleans Darkwa offered tremendous help to the young quarterback, rushing the ball 28 times for 188 yards and two touchdowns. The senior's 23-yard touchdown run concluded a 6-play 71-yard opening possession drive for the Green Wave that lasted 1:56. Darkwa also added 2 receptions for 53 yards during the game.

Tulane's tremendous first half got its exclamation point when High found redshirt sophomore FB Simon Parker for a 5-yard touchdown that made the score 27-6 going into the halftime locker room.

Darkwa would then add a 33-yard touchdown run on the first drive of the third quarter to extend Tulane's lead to 34-6.

"We thought that it was important for us to come out and establish our running game and to try to take pressure off of Anthony," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"In all honestly, I think we passed a little bit more than I had originally anticipated with the young quarterback but I thought the offense responded and made plays for him."

Houston (4-1, 2-1) was able to make a game of it in the second half, outscoring Tulane 21-7 after halftime. The Cougars got to within 14 points at 34-20 late in the third quarter and faced a 4th and goal from the Green Wave 1-yard line with a chance to make it a one possession game early in the fourth quarter. However junior QB Terrance Broadway's pass to a wide open Jonathan Wright in the end zone bounced off the junior fullback's chest, thwarting a huge scoring opportunity.

High would put the game away midway through the fourth quarter when he found WR Wilson Van Hooser for a 6-yard touchdown that made the score 41-20 with just 4:04 remaining.

"Things got a little uneasy there for a bit but fortunately the defense came up with a big stop there at the goal line and High was able to put together a crucial, game-clinching drive," said Geezy.

High, who was starting in place of much-maligned junior QB Curtis Byrd, did not have a perfect game in his debut. Three interceptions, two of which were to Cougars CB Robby Hollis, marred an otherwise stellar afternoon however Geezy understands that there will be growing pains when having a freshman starting quarterback - just as their was when Byrd started as a freshman in 2011.

Two of High's interceptions came on passes that were thrown deep to seemingly open targets but sailed right into the hands of a defender. The third came on a poor decision to throw the ball across his body.

"All in all, I was happy with the progress Anthony made today but there is certainly a lot to clean up in regards to the turnovers and completion percentage," said Geezy.

"These improvements will come with time as he gains more and more confidence and the game slows down for him. But with that said, I thought the guys did a good job of rallying around Anthony and I thought he brought a different sort of command and 'swagger,' if you will, to the offense."

Tulane (2-2, 1-1) will host UTEP (1-4, 0-2) next week at the Louisiana Superdome. The Green Wave defeated the Miners 38-28 last season in El Paso and are 3-0 against their Conference USA West division foes under Geezy.

I do agree that Orleans is a beast. I'd like to try to get him even more involved in the passing game and maybe even get him a couple of returns.

I'm not ready to declare that we're going on a long winning streak though. There are some tough games coming up soon. I'm going to just take it one game at a time.

I liked what I saw from High. He was a bit inaccurate on a couple of passes, which were picked. This was concerning but the good far outweighed the bad.

Good comparison there. It was coincidental that he ended up with the #15 but it fits the player well. Hopefully he can end up even half the superstar Tebow was. It's too early to start the ""Highsman"" campaign though.

Tulane | RB Moore narrows list
        Tue, 1 Oct 2013 8:11:49 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that according to one of his family members, Tulane 4-star recruit RB Reggie Moore (6-0 206 pounds, 4.36 40, #17 RB prospect), has narrowed his school choices down to two schools - Southern Miss & Tulane. The family member who wished to remain nameless indicates that Southern Miss has a ""very, very razor-thin edge"" in the competition for Moore's services but Moore has yet to receive a formal scholarship offer from the Golden Eagles and is tempted to stay closer to home and go to Tulane. The Schriever, LA native is the #1 running back prospect in the state and visited Tulane's campus along with 9 other prospects during the weekend of the team's 41-27 week 6 win versus Houston.

According to sources close to Tulane football, Moore is without question the #1 player on Green Wave head coach D. Geezy's board and has drawn comparisons by recruiting experts to two-time NFL MVP RB Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints for his size, speed, ability to catch passes out of the backfield, and his abilities as a return man. Geezy also believes that the popular local player could single-handidly significantly increase Tulane's fan base and marketability.

The team will have a major void at running back in 2014, with star senior RB Orleans Darkwa set to graduate and enter the NFL draft after this season.

Always great to have a new follower. Glad you're enjoying it.

I would definitely recommend doing a dynasty report. It really brings your dynasty to life and it is also pretty neat years into your dynasty to go back and look at stuff that you otherwise would have long forgotten about.

          Thanks for reading!

Thanks man...Yeah things just ""feel"" different with High in the game. I feel like I have more control with him.

If I can land Reggie Moore, I will be a happy man. The combination of High and Moore has the potential to ultimately be the story of this dynasty.

            29 -- 1-5 (0-3)
            44 -- 3-2 (2-1)

TOP: Tulane freshman QB Anthony High finds WR John Lacey for a 19-yard touchdown pass that made the score 20-7 with just 0:09 remaining in the first half. It was the pair's first of two touchdown hook-ups on the day. BOTTOM: High's 10-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter made the score 41-21 and was the first rushing touchdown of his two-game old career as Tulane's starting quarterback.

QB High has near flawless performance, accounts for 4 touchdowns as Tulane defeats UTEP 44-29 to pick up second straight win | "Slash" LB Richards terrorizes Miners QB Hall with 3 sacks on the day | Green Wave set to embark on huge road test next week at #25 UCF in rematch of last year's Conference USA Championship Game

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane offense gained 533 total offensive yards and got an impressive performance from freshman QB Anthony High en route to a 44-29 win over UTEP Saturday afternoon at the Louisiana Superdome. High, making just the second start of his young career, went 16 of 24 for 265 yards and 3 touchdowns while throwing no interceptions. The Texas native also added 10 rushing attempts for 25 yards, including a 10-yard fourth quarter touchdown run that all but sealed Tulane's second straight victory.

High's second touchdown of the day, a 19-yard pass to junior WR John Lacey, gave the Green Wave a 20-7 lead just before halftime. Coming out of the halftime locker room, High would lead a 10-play drive which culminated with a 16-yard touchdown run by back-up RB Joey Roberts, blowing open the game at 27-7.

The Green Wave offense also got another strong performance out of senior RB Orleans Darkwa, as he carried the ball 27 times for 178 yards and also had 2 receptions for 21 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter on a swing-screen pass.

"I thought our offense really clicked on all cylinders today and anytime you can put up 40+ points on the board, chances are you'll win," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

The Tulane defense had a much more up and down afternoon unfortunately, surrendering 411 yards to the Miners' offense. UTEP RB Kenny Lucas had 136 rushing yards on only 16 carries, including a 74-yard touchdown run that put his team back in the game making the score 34-21 in the third quarter. The Green Wave also had issues defending the pass, allowing Miners QB Javia Hall to finish 18 of 27 for 241 yards and 2 touchdowns with no turnovers.

"There is a lot we need to clean up here as the schedule starts to get tougher," said Tulane defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Charles Kelly.

"This is becoming a common problem where we hold teams in the first half but can't seem to stop anyone in the second half. This cost us a game back in week 3 against SMU and if we don't fix it, it will cost us another one. We're going to have to study ourselves and figure this out because games in which you hold big leads should be a lot more comfortable for us.

"As of right now, falling behind by several scores on Tulane is not a big deal to opponents."

It wasn't all bad for the Tulane defense as freshman superstar OLB Mark Richards continued to reek havoc on opposing defenses. The former 3-star recruit registered the first 3 sacks of his career on Saturday as he continues to thrive as the team's ""slash"" linebacker, dropping into coverage and rushing the passer as a 3-4 outside linebacker and 4-3 defensive end. Richards logged the first interception of his career just one week ago and followed it up with another strong performance on Saturday.

Tulane would put the game away early in the fourth quarter when High scored his aforementioned 10-yard fourth quarter touchdown that made the score 41-21 with 6:02 remaining in the game. Following a fumble on the ensuing kickoff that was forced by freshman CB Chris Garrison and recovered by fellow freshman SS Brant Gilbert, Tulane would put the game away with a 23-yard field goal by PK Jonathan Ginsburgh that made the score 44-21 with 4:10 remaining.

UTEP (1-5, 0-3) would add a late touchdown and two point conversion to make the score look much closer, however the Green Wave would be able to run out the clock following an unsuccessful onsides kick attempt by the Miners.

Tulane (3-2, 2-1) will travel to face #25 UCF (4-1, 2-1) next week in what will be the first road start for High and a pivotal game for the Green Wave in regards to the Conference USA standings. The Golden Knights are coming off a disappointing 26-21 road loss to Southern Miss (5-1, 3-0).

The Green Wave blew out UCF 34-3 in last season's Conference USA Championship Game at the Louisiana Superdome to earn their first conference title since 1998.

Hopefully you are wrong but I am afraid this could quite possibly be true. I am especially concerned with the road games; His composure will certainly be put to the test.

Thanks man...I don't think we're getting any votes any time soon. That second loss coming against SMU really hurt us. We'd have to probably win the next 6 games to crack the Top 25.

Thanks man...Yeah High has become my favorite player. Byrd had just become too much of a non-user error turnover machine. I feel like I have a lot more control now with High in the game.

This is a tall order. I'm not saying we can't pull it off, but the schedule is about to get a little tough here over the next few weeks.

You're right man...we have some good young leadership on both sides of the ball. Richards has made quite an impression...He's already an ""IMPACT"" player as a freshman. I don't think I have ever seen that before.

Darkwa's big 100+ yard games aren't even news worthy anymore. I've come to expect it. He'll be difficult to replace but hopefully I can close the deal with this Reggie Moore kid.

Tulane | RB Moore soft commits to Tulane
                Tue, 8 Oct 2013 8:11:49 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that according to sources close to the team, Tulane 4-star recruit RB Reggie Moore (6-0 206 pounds, 4.36 40, #17 RB prospect in the nation), has given the Green Wave a "soft verbal" commitment this week to sign a National Letter of Intent with the school in the winter. Moore still has a visit with Southern Miss lined up for week 12 and it is believed that he would like to take his visit before committing however a firm decision is possible prior to then according to the source.

"(Tulane head coach) D. Geezy really sold him on the fact that he'd be a hometown hero playing here in Louisiana & he pretty much promised him a starting spot and a starring role in the offense," said the source.

The Schriever, LA native is the #1 running back prospect in the state and visited Tulane's campus along with 9 other prospects during the weekend of the team's 41-27 week 6 win versus Houston. It was reported last week
that Moore is the #1 player on Tulane's prospect board and signing the popular in-state star is expected to give a major jolt to Tulane's marketability and fan base.

Tulane | FS Washington, SS DeJean getting work at corner
                Tue, 24 Sep 2013 8:11:49 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that the Tulane Green Wave, in an effort to improve its struggling pass defense, has experimented this week using sophomore FS Will Washington and senior SS Cameron DeJean at cornerback in certain packages at practice this week and there is a chance that DeJean will be moved to cornerback permanently. The players are considered to be the two best man coverage defenders on the team and their skills may be better suited at cornerback in Tulane defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Charles Kelly's attacking scheme that often times leaves its corners on an island.

In the event DeJean is moved to corner, freshman SS Brant Gilbert would take over as the team's starting strong safety.

The team's young secondary has struggled throughout the season and ranks 101st in the nation versus the pass and the team hopes that juggling its personnel will help remedy the problem in the pass-happy Conference USA.

This ain't your daddy's Green Wave. We're changing the atmosphere in New Orleans. We got ad campaigns gettin' the word out about the program and we got campus hoe's hosting recruit visits. Not to mention Coach Geezy's prolific pro style offense and his NFL connections to entice kids who want to play in the league. :eyebrows:

                  ""Running back U""....I like that.

I have decided to make the changes after looking at my safeties MCV and ZCV ratings in comparison to my young CBs' ratings. My former 2-star ATH recruit FS Will Washington has coverage ratings in the high 80s as does my starting SS Cameron DeJean. Where as pretty much all of my CBs are in the low to mid 70s in those departments.

So this is what I am going to do...In 4-3 I will keep DeJean and Washington at safety. When I go nickel, I will use the sub-package ""Nickel Big"" which will put DeJean at nickel back. When I go with Dime, I will use the sub package ""Safety CBs (or something like that)"" which will put Washington and DeJean at nickel and dime back.

I am just experimenting at this point because I am getting pretty desperate for some success in the back end on defense.

No doubt about it though, if I can land him, this could be one of those ""face of my NCAA 11 dynasty"" type signings.

RB ORLEANS DARKWA RUSHES FOR 250 YARDS AND 2 TOUCHDOWNS AS TULANE TAKES DOWN #25 UCF 34-27

Senior running back's career day propels Green Wave back to the top of Conference USA West division standings | QB High has yet another turnover-free day, tosses two touchdown passes in his first road test | SS DeJean thrives in his new role as nickle corner, records first interception since 2010 and comes up with game-changing goal line stop just before halftime

Orlando, FL -- The Tulane Green Wave played a see-saw battle in the first half and pulled away in the second half on their way to a 34-27 win over #25 UCF Saturday at Bright House Networks Stadium. Green Wave senior RB Orleans Darkwa had the best rushing performance of his career during the pivotal Conference USA match-up, carrying the football 19 times for 250 yards and 2 long touchdowns. His 80-yard third quarter touchdown made the score 31-21 in the third quarter. His 250 rushing yards were the most of his career, besting his previous career-high of 232 yards set last season in a 45-20 home win last season over SMU. It was the third 200-yard game of his career.

Following Darkwa's 80-yard touchdown, the Green Wave defense would come up with a big play when senior SS Cameron DeJean intercepted UCF QB Blake Bortles on the Golden Knight's ensuing possession. The interception set up a 36-yard field goal by Tulane PK Jonathan Ginsburgh that extended their lead to 34-21.

DeJean, who has been a four-year started at strong safety for Tulane, was moved this week into the role of situational nickle and dime cornerback on passing downs. He lines up at safety in the team's 4-3 and 3-4 base defenses and moves to cornerback in nickle and dime situations. His third quarter interception came when he was playing nickle corner, and was just the second of his career & his first since his freshman season in 2010.

"That was really a spectacular and aggressive play by Cameron and I was glad to see him finally get his hands on the ball for a pick," said Tulane defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Charles Kelly.

"We thought that we struggled in certain areas on passing downs and Cameron provided a great spark for us moving down to corner on passing downs today. We love his skill set for that role."

DeJean's interception was not his only big play in the game. In the first quarter, with his team trailing 7-0 due to a fumble by WR/KR Wilson Van Hooser on the game's opening kickoff that was returned for a quick UCF touchdown to start the game, DeJean would make a pivotal play. Following a Tulane punt, senior CB Kendrick Washington forced UCF RB Jesse Ray to fumble deep in his own territory on first down and DeJean recovered, setting up Tulane with possession of the ball at the UCF 25-yard line. Two plays later, Green Wave QB Anthony High found WR John Lacey for a 23-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7.

Later in the first half, UCF would put together a long drive that got all the way to the Tulane 1-yard line with less than two minutes to go. The drive would get thrwarted however when DeJean stoned Ray at the 1-yard line on 4th and goal. The unofficial turnover left the game tied at 21-21 and set the Green Wave up to go on an 8-play drive which led to a field goal by Ginsburgh to give Tulane a 24-21 lead at halftime.

Washington would also come up with a big play in the third quarter, intercepting a pass by Bortles in the end zone, setting up Darkwa's long 80-yard touchdown.

"The defense stepped up today and came up with 3 big turnovers, all of which we capatalized on offensively," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"We really operated well today as a team. The offense, defense, and special teams all complimented each other very well."

In the fourth quarter, with Tulane up 34-21, UCF would go on a long 18-play 76-yard drive which took up 5:42 and culminated with a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Darrell Davis on 4th and goal which made the score 34-27 following a missed PAT with just 2:06 remaining. The Golden Knights (4-2, 2-2) would elect to kickoff following the score however, rather than attempt an onsides kick. They would not see the ball again.

Darkwa's 3-yard run on 2nd and 1 at the UCF 44-yard line with 1:43 remaining and the Golden Knights out of timeouts gave Tulane a first down and enabled High to kneel on the ball three times to end the game.

High had yet another solid outing on Saturday. Making the third start of his career and his first on the road, the freshman went 13 of 21 for 161 yards and threw 2 touchdown passes and no interceptions. He also rushed 6 times for 35 yards, picking up several key drive-extending first downs. High is now 3-0 as the team's starting quarterback, taking over for junior QB Curtis Byrd following the team's slow 1-2 start this season.

Saturday's game was a rematch of last season's Conference USA Championship Game, won 34-3 by Tulane last season at the Louisiana Superdome.

Tulane (4-2, 3-1) will host Marshall (3-4, 3-1) next week at the Louisiana Superdome. The Green Wave defeated the Thundering Herd 32-31 in their last meeting in 2010, the team's first season under Geezy. The game was won on a 33-yard field goal by former Green Wave PK Ryan Rome as time expired.

Thanks man...Yeah I can't say enough about Darkwa. The guy brings it every week. He breaks a lot of tackles and has some tremendous breakaway speed. He's been a really big factor in this turnaround from the slow start this team had.

                      Recruiting updates :hungry:
Yeah I wanted to scale it back for him this past game with this being his first road game. I just wanted to ""manage the game"" from the QB position. I've been pretty impressed with his accuracy and not turning the ball over.

I'm struggling recruiting wise in terms of quantity this season but I think you'll like my next post.

                        RB Reggie Moore

TULANE LANDS PRIZED LOUISIANA RECRUIT RB REGGIE MOORE
Thibodaux High star chooses to stay home in hopes of getting Green Wave ""to the next level"" | Hundreds show up, including Dwayne ""The Rock"" Johnson, to watch Moore announce his decision at his high school campus

                        -------------------------------------------------

The Tulane Green Wave football team scored one of, if not the biggest prize in the modern history of its program Monday morning as Schriever native and Thibodaux High superstar RB Reggie Moore announced that he has firmly committed to enroll at Tulane next fall. The 4-star speedster held an early morning press conference at the Thibodaux High gym, located approximately 60 miles from New Orleans, and announced his decision while donning a Tulane visor.

"After months of debating within myself and talking with countless family members and friends, I have decided to stay home and join the Green Wave next fall," said Moore.

"Tulane head coach D. Geezy and his staff have showed me a ton of love for the past 2+ years in their recruitment of me and I am excited about their plans for me as well as for the program."

Moore, the #1 rated high school running back in the state according to Rivals.com, is 6-0 206 pounds and runs a 4.36 40-yard dash. He leads the Thibodaux Tigers with 1,243 rushing yards through just 7 games & also has three punt return touchdowns and two kickoff return touchdowns this season.

He has drawn several comparisons to two-time NFL MVP RB Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints, and not just because of their common first name or similar size (Bush is listed at 6-0 203 pounds). Like Bush, Moore is a versatile running back that can line up in the backfield as well as in the slot as a receiver (he leads Thibodaux High with 27 receptions this season). Reached via telephone following the press conference, Geezy had this to say about his new offensive toy:

"We found out the news just before the press conference and needless to say, we are all very pumped over here," said Geezy.

"This player will obviously have to come in and compete but we feel that once he gets acclimated in our offense, he can be a valuable component in several phases. Myself and the coaching staff were out in the French Quarter having a breakfast when we got the news and we were in there already drawing up new plays for Reggie on napkins. We think we got a special player today and I could not be more excited for Reggie and for our fans.

"Our ticket office has told me that they are already getting slammed with phone calls from people looking to buy season tickets for the 2014 season. Our ticket office manager joked with me and said he thinks the entire Thibodaux and Schriever population will be in the Superdome next fall. If that's the case, we're definitely happy to be expanding our fan base regionally."

The Green Wave will be losing star senior RB Orleans Darkwa to graduation following this season, giving Moore a good chance to start as a freshman. It was reported by TheWaveReport.com last week that an unnamed family member of Moore stated that Geezy has all but promised Moore a significant role in the offense and that, along with the prospect of playing close to home, made his decision to go to Tulane that much easier.

Moore's final decision reportedly came down to Southern Miss and Tulane. He was also being courted by Texas A&M, LSU and Boise State, amongst others.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson just so happened to be in town for the announcement.
"It was important to me to go to a program that is on the way up," said Moore.

"I have had a dream since a little boy that I would go to a school that wasn't already established as a powerhouse. I want to help turn a program into one and Tulane fits the bill. It's a perfect marriage."

Hundreds of Thibodaux High students, staff members, coaches, and members of the Thibodaux/Schriever-region community packed the school's gymnasium to watch the announcement. Even a surprise, rather random guest showed up, actor and former Miami Hurricanes football star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Johnson, in town visiting a relative, decided to make the short drive to watch the conference after hearing about it from family members.

"I decided to see what all the hoopla was about because this kid is simply put, the talk of the town," said Johnson, a former pro wrestler.

"I saw some of his highlights and the kid has definitely got it. When I heard what team he chose and the reasons why, I just had to stand up and give him an applause. Tulane is getting themselves a heck of a player."

I am pretty much using the Saints' playbook in my dynasty already so it is only fitting for me to have a player this similar to Reggie Bush. Once I saw his 40 time and then his first name, I fell in love with this player.

No doubt man...I am so eager to see this kid play. He looks like a big-time weapon. He and High together will make quite the dynamic duo.

I am expecting big things from the Reggie - High combo. I think he could quickly become the face of the Deegeezy Era in New Orleans.

I hope you're right about Reggie. He will be used in a pretty similar fashion to Reggie Bush. Part-time RB, slot WR, and return man. I cannot wait for 2014. This player has renewed my already strong interest in this game.

                            30 -- 4-4 (4-1)
                            27 -- 4-3 (3-2) F/OT

Trailing 30-27 in overtime, Tulane faced a 3rd and 14 due to a false start and a holding penalty to start the game's second OT drive. QB Curtis Byrd looked for the deep ball but with no one open, elected to scramble. After picking up more than enough yardage to get into field goal range, Byrd was hit by Marshall SS Cartavious Baldwin, jarring the ball loose. MLB Nick Moore recovered for the Thundering Herd, ending the game.

                            DOUBLE WHAMMY

Tulane blows early 17-0 lead en route to 30-27 overtime loss to Marshall, loses freshman QB Anthony High for the season with major shoulder injury | After leading heroic drive to force overtime, back-up QB Byrd's fumble on game's final play costs Green Wave their second Conference USA loss of the year | With last season's loss total now already surpassed, team must quickly pick up the pieces with #15 Georgia Tech set to come to New Orleans next week

New Orleans, LA -- Tulane fans learned just how quickly a team's fortunes can turn in the world of college football on Saturday afternoon at the Louisiana Superdome. Their Green Wave fell to the Marshall Thundering Herd 30-27 in overtime and in the process lost starting freshman QB Anthony High for the season with a torn labrum in his right throwing shoulder. The first-year signal caller was in the midst of probably his worst game since being named the starter in week 4, and was injured in the fourth quarter after going 20 of 30 for 281 yards with no touchdowns, 3 interceptions, and a lost fumble; This despite being 15 of 18 for 201 yards and no interceptions at halftime.

Back-up QB Curtis Byrd, a starter for 2+ years before being benched following a poor week 3 outing at SMU this season, replaced High and nearly led his team to victory. However, trailing 30-27 in overtime following a field goal by the Thundering Herd, Byrd's fumble at the end of a 20-yard scramble in overtime was recovered by Marshall MLB Nick Moore, ending the game. Moore was also responsible for inflicting the injury to High via a punishing fourth quarter sack.

Tulane, who lead 17-0 at one point and 20-7 at halftime, was unable to muster any offense in the second half, struggling to find running and passing lanes versus Marshall's 3-4 defense. It was not until Byrd came in late that they were able to put together a 6-play 70-yard drive which took up 1:46 to tie the game.

The possession culminated with a 26-yard touchdown pass to WR Wilson Van Hooser on a tip-toe catch in the back-right corner of the end zone which made the score 27-27 with just 0:27 remaining. Byrd's only other pass completion on the drive and of the game was a 41-yard desperation jump ball pass to RB Orleans Darkwa on 4th and 14 at their own 16-yard line. The miracle play set up Van Hooser's amazing catch in the end zone just two plays later, but in the end it was all for naught.

"This was probably one of, if not the most disappointing afternoons of my career in coaching," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"We lost a game we felt we should have won and had many opportunities to put away. And to top it off, we lost one of our leaders.

"With that said, I am a man that believes in fate and that everything happens for a reason. Hopefully Curtis seizes this opportunity and runs with it."

Ironically, Byrd lost his starting job due to a blown 17-point lead in Tulane's week 3 loss to SMU. Like High, Byrd's multiple turnovers led to touchdowns by the Mustangs that day and put them in position for the comeback victory. High ended Saturday's game with four total turnovers.

Marshall (4-4, 4-1) scored 14 points off turnovers, both following interceptions by High. The Green Wave had no answer for the Thundering Herd's spread no-huddle attack, allowing QB Ed Sullivan to finish with 422 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. The team had issues stopping Marshall RB Aaron Slusher as a receiver out of the backfield, allowing the junior to finish with 7 receptions for a game-high 114 yards.

A 2-yard touchdown run by WR Stefone Grace on an end around gave the Thundering Herd their first lead of the game at 21-20 with 8:39 remaining. Later in the fourth quarter, Sullivan's 9-yard touchdown pass to Grace extended their team's lead to 27-20 (PAT missed) with 2:13 remaining.

"We don't have time here to feel sorry for ourselves," said Geezy.

"We have to lick our wounds and turn our focus up even more. It won't be getting any easier for us and opponents surely won't be going any easier on us.

"It is time for us to rally around Curtis and try to salvage this season before it gets away from us. Curtis has won a lot of games here and there is no question he can win a lot more...We still have a good shot to win our second straight conference title but the margin of error just decreased to basically zero."

Tulane (4-3, 3-2) will host #15 Georgia Tech (6-2) next week in a non-conference match-up at the Louisiana Superdome in what has become a bitter rivalry in recent years between the two former Southeastern Conference members. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Green Wave 31-25 in last season's opening week in Atlanta.

The last time Tulane faced the then-13th ranked Yellow Jackets in the Superdome, they came away with a 27-20 upset victory in 2011. The two teams then met in a grudge match just weeks later in the Champs Sports Bowl of that year, with Georgia Tech prevailing 25-17.

The rivalry also goes beyond the field, as Tulane defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Charles Kelly was Georgia Tech's secondary coach prior to being wooed away by the Green Wave. The two teams have stepped on each other's foots in recruiting battles as well.

Perhaps the tipping point of the brewing hatred came this past off-season, as Georgia Tech reportedly made an offer to Geezy to become their next head coach. Geezy politely declined.

Yep...Looks like fate has put the season back in his hands once again. He led the team to a conference title last year so I see no reason why he can't do it again.

Honestly the talent drop off on paper between High and Byrd is minimal.

Byrd led us to a conference title last year so I am hoping he can string together a few good games here to close out the season.

You're right though...The way that game ended was a microcosm of Byrd's career.

To be honest with you, I think Byrd and High are virtually the same player (High is slightly faster though). I don't think we'll see a big drop off however Byrd does have the tendency to fumble a lot more often.

My division really sucks so you're right, we can still win this thing but I am sure we'll need to run the table the rest of the way in conference play.

VERY frustrating but at the same time refreshing. I hadn't had a really significant injury this entire dynasty so I am glad to have a little bit of adversity to deal with finally.

It has been disappointing but at the same time, I welcome the ""down year."" Too often in these NCAA dynasties we see our teams just continuously keep rising every year. I don't know the last time I have had a season in which I lost more games than I did the previous year.

Haha...I guess I don't really have a choice but to give him a chance.

I have confidence in him. Like I said before, he and High are almost the same player in terms of ratings. I just like to play High because his ratings are already where Byrd's are and he's only a freshman.

You don't want to let all of this send the season into a downward spiral. There are too many tough games left on the schedule and the conference title isnt a sure lock either. Time to rally around Byrd and right the ship! Good luck man!
I have to agree with you about this being a pivotal game confidence wise. If we can knock off this ranked opponent, I think we can beat anyone. I know this is just a video game with cyber-players, but the psycological boost would be huge.

Byrd's figured out a way to knock off Georgia Tech in the past, I am sure he can do it again.

Georgia Tech QB Jordan Luallen connects with WR Fred Davis for the game-winning 22-yard touchdown with just 0:12 remaining and the sophomore wideout taunts the crowd in celebration.

TULANE BLOWS LEAD TWICE IN THE GAME'S FINAL 1:25 IN HEARTBREAKING 39-34 LOSS TO #15 GEORGIA TECH

QB Luallen's 22-yard touchdown pass to WR Davis with 0:12 remaining wins game for Yellow Jackets, drops Tulane to 4-4 | In a game that featured four 4th quarter lead changes, Green Wave defense unable to come up with stops when it mattered most | QB Byrd's turnover woes continue

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave's 2013 downward spiral continued on Saturday as the team fell to 15th ranked Georgia Tech 39-34 at the Louisiana Superdome. Nursing two leads within the final 1:25, the Green Wave defense allowed the Yellow Jackets to shred them through the air in crunch time. Georgia Tech QB Jordan Luallen's 22-yard touchdown pass to WR Fred Davis with just 0:12 remaining gave the Yellow Jackets their 39-34 winning margin.

Tulane took a 24-23 lead early in the fourth quarter when blossoming freshman star OLB Mark Richards caught an interception off of a deflection and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown with 8:29 left to go in the game. The team would later add a field goal to their margin which made the score 27-23 with 4:36 left.

Georgia Tech (7-2) would answer the field goal drive with a long 12-play 80-yard drive which took up 3:11. The possession culminated with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Luallen to WR Kevin Blanco on 4th and 23 with just 1:25 remaining. The tip-toe grab in the right corner of the end zone gave Georgia Tech a 30-27 lead.

On the very first play of Tulane's ensuing drive, QB Curtis Byrd threw his 3rd interception of the game. Georgia Tech would cash it in with a 36-yard field goal with 0:58 remaining to push their lead to 33-27, but leaving enough time for Tulane to try to take the lead with a touchdown drive.

Byrd, making his first start since being benched following the third game of the season, finished 13 of 25 for 259 yards with 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions, playing in place of injured starting freshman QB Anthony High.

Tulane did not lay down however as on the very next drive, Byrd found RB Orleans Darkwa wide open on a deep 74-yard touchdown pass on a wheel route which gave the Green Wave a 34-33 lead. Darkwa finished with a game-high 306 all-purpose yards (149 rushing, 111 receiving, 46 kick returning) and 3 touchdowns (1 rushing, 2 receiving).

In the end though, his strong effort and final touchdown reception merely just set the stage for Luallen and Davis' game-winning hook-up.

"There is a lot that we can point to as reasons why we lost but the #1 reason is the turnovers," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"We have five of them today, four of them from the quarterback position, and that is just unacceptable.

"Our pass defense was also pitiful late in the game. There were guys running wide open the entire fourth quarter and what happened on 4th and 23 with us nursing the 27-23 lead should never happen. We called the right defenses but guys just aren't making plays."

Tulane would get one last opportunity for a desperation hail mary following the game-winning score by Georgia Tech with 0:12 left. However Byrd's final heave was intercepted near midfield by Yellow Jackets CB Rod Sweeting on the game's final play.

The loss for the Green Wave was their third straight to Georgia Tech. Tulane upset their former SEC rivals 27-20 at the Superdome in 2011 however they have since dropped all of their last three meetings, including a 25-17 loss in the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl. All of the losses have been by 8 points or less.

"I know we have a young ball club but the mistakes we're making are not ones that will be tolerated," said Geezy.

"We better right this ship in a hurry. Our 12-2 championship season last year feels like it was a decade ago."

Tulane (4-4, 3-2) will travel to face Rice (1-8, 1-4) next week on the road in hopes of snapping their two-game losing streak. Despite their current struggles, the Green Wave still controls its own destiny in the race for their second consecutive Conference USA title.
