        #22 24 -- 4-0 (2-0)

TOP ROW: Tulane DT Myron Dawson, a JUCO transfer this past off-season making his first start in place of ineffective freshman DT Jesse Sanders, sacks Georgia QB Lance Murphy and forces a fumble in the first quarter. Freshman DE A.J. Haynes recovered the ball and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown to give his team an early 7-0 advantage. | BOTTOM ROW: Following a turnover deep in Bulldogs territory just before halftime, Tulane QB Anthony High finds TE Justin Thomas for a 3-yard touchdown that made the score 17-0 with just 0:08 remaining in the half.

TULANE'S DEFENSE PICKS UP THE SLACK, GETS THREE BIG TURNOVERS IN 24-14 VICTORY OVER #21 GEORGIA; RB REGGIE MOORE INJURED

On a day in which Green Wave's prolific offense struggles, defense scores two touchdowns off fumbles as team climbs to 4-0 | Explosive RB Moore expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks with torn pectoral | Green Wave has no time to feel sorry for themselves with rival LSU coming to town next week for a monster SEC clash

New Orleans, LA -- Tulane got two touchdowns off fumbles by its defense and another Georgia fumble just before halftime set up an offensive score as the Green Wave cruised to a 24-14 victory over the Bulldogs Saturday at the Louisiana Superdome. Freshman FS Dre Harris' 69-yard fumble return for a touchdown, his second touchdown of the season, made the score 24-7 with 8:10 remaining, all but putting the game away.

The Green Wave, who came into the game ranked #1 in the nation in points per game (45.0), struggled to move the ball offensively against the Bulldogs' 3-4 defense and finished the game with a season-low 193 yards on the day. It was the lowest yardage output by the Green Wave offense under head coach D. Geezy; The previous low was 232 yards in a 14-13 loss to UCF in 2010, Geezy's first season with Tulane. QB Anthony High completed just 12 of his 27 passes for 137 yards and one touchdown, which was set up by a fumble recovery by OLB Mark Richards inside the Georgia 10-yard line with just seconds remaining in the half.

"We thought that we could have success throwing the football today but Georgia did a heck of a job of getting after us with pressure and zone blitz schemes to where Anthony couldn't get comfortable," said Geezy.

"The most important thing is that we didn't turn the ball over. We didn't press offensively when things weren't going our way and in a game like this where everything isn't clicking, that is huge."

Georgia (1-3, 0-2) finished the game with three offensive turnovers, and the Green Wave converted all three into touchdowns. Bulldogs QB Lance Murphy was held to just 92 passing yards during the game and was unable to find any rhythm versus the Green Wave's pass rush and dramatically improved secondary. Murphy was sacked four times.

The tone for Tulane's big defensive day was set early in the game. Green Wave junior DT Myron Dawson, a JUCO transfer this past off-season, started the game in place of struggling freshman DT Jesse Sanders, who had just 3 tackles through 3 games coming into this week. Dawson got his first career sack early in the first quarter, causing Murphy to fumble. The loose ball was recovered by freshman DE A.J. Haynes, who returned it 37 yards for a touchdown to give the Green Wave a 7-0 lead only two minutes into the game.

"Their turnovers were really the difference today. There's going to be games like this where everything isn't going your way and you'll have to find other ways to win," said Geezy.

"In this conference, a win is a win. Sometimes they'll be ugly but you'll take them any way you can."

Tulane (4-0, 2-0) will now turn its attention to a colossal matchup next week at home versus rival LSU (2-1, 0-1). The Tigers defeated the Green Wave 56-31 last season at Tiger Stadium in what was Tulane's first SEC game since its return to the conference.

        MOORE INJURED

The jubilation of Saturday's win was somewhat marred for Tulane fans as RB Reggie Moore, who played only one half on Saturday, tore his pectoral muscle and told reporters after the game that he has been told he would miss the next 6 to 8 weeks. Reportedly seen exiting the post game locker room with his arm in a sling, Moore injured himself on a 3-yard carry with 0:45 remaining in the first half.

The injury is a significant blow for Tulane as Moore is the team's leading rusher with 338 yards on the season. He leads the team with 3 touchdown receptions and also has a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown this season. Moore finished Saturday's game with just 15 yards on 7 carries before leaving.

Junior RB Anthony Barnett is expected to get the nod in Moore's absence. The third year speedy tailback is second on the team with 245 yards, which he has gotten on only 27 carries via explosive big plays, averaging a gaudy 9.0 yards per carry.

Freshman RB B.J. Johnson, third on the team with 204 rushing yards, will also see an increased workload.

"Right now we're targeting week 12 versus Arkansas for Reggie's return," said Geezy.

"Obviously Reggie is a significant part of what we do offensively in both the run and the pass as well as on special teams in the return game. We'll have to find other ways to move the football and figure out the best way to replace those valuable touches he gets. I have full confidence that Anthony and B.J. can step their game up so that there is minimal drop-off.

"We've been fortunate during my time here in terms of injuries and there is no doubt that this is a big blow, but we have to move forward."

That was really about as bad of a game offensively that I have played with this team. For some reason, the 3-4 defense seems to be our bugaboo. We always tend to struggle against 3-4 defenses. The pass rush always seems to give me fits.

I feel good about Anthony Barnett starting for us. He is a very similar player and quite honestly, the only big difference is that Barnett does not have that magical ""impact player"" star underneath him that EA has decided warrants super-powers. Barnett is a 76 overall with 94 speed, and is pretty similar to Moore as a freshman ratings-wise. I think we'll be fine and he's ready to carry the load.

67 overall third string B.J. Johnson has shown some promise as well.

Our defense is coming into its own now. The secondary play has improved dramatically and has allowed me to have a lot more flexibility in calling blitzes. It is a big difference having CBs that can actually function and my freshman FS Dre Harris is like Ronnie Lott on Tecmo Bowl back there. He covers a lot of ground with his 95 speed.

It definitely sucks to lose Moore, especially right before this crucial LSU game.

Like I said before though, I have confidence that Barnett can get the job done and I also think we have enough playmakers elsewhere to still be a highly effective offense. We'll remain balanced, but I think you'll see our WR's numbers go up a tad in his absence.

Also just noticed that Alabama isn't going to win their 7th straight SEC title.
Bama has really fallen off the map. It is still very early, but it is looking like it will be between us, LSU, and Arkansas for the SEC West (I think Ole Miss is smoke and mirrors). Which makes this next game versus LSU extremely pivotal.

Struggled against Georgia, but, the defense picked you up and you were able to escape with a win. Tough losing Moore for 6-8 weeks. Think that will change the offensive approach any? Obviously, you have had some success with the backups, but, any changes in particular to the personnel packages or play-calling?

            Good luck against LSU![/font]
I think we'll still run the ball a good bit; Our back-ups have proven that they can carry the load.

Play-calling wise, I will probably get the ball to our WRs a little more since all of the Moore screens are going to be shelved for a little while (keep an eye on WR Gerald Alexander, who has had a somewhat quiet start to this season).

Barnett can catch, but he is no Moore when it comes to that.

On the bright side maybe this means Moore will be more open to staying his senior year...doubtful...but one can dream
I hope you're right, but sadly it isn't likely. I truly expect next season to be Moore's last. It really sucks about the injury. I had dreams of him being a two-time Heisman winner but this obviously takes him out of the running for this year.

Ha...It's all good man. These things happen. If anything, I sort of welcome the adversity. I haven't had to deal with any major injuries in this dynasty (knock on wood), which is kind of unrealistic. I think it adds a new challenge to the game for me.

Tulane | Team to unveil retro look versus rival LSU
                Wed, 23 Sep 2015 7:30:49 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that the Tulane Green Wave will be wearing all-green uniforms along with commemorative green helmets for their week 5 game Saturday against rival LSU. Tulane, who made a switch from green helmets to white helmets prior to the 2012 season, has not sported its all-green look since the 2011 Champs Bowl versus Georgia Tech.

"As you know, LSU, like us, prefers to wear its white jerseys at home for conference games but for some reason they're making a fuss about us wearing ours for this game," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"Quite honestly, we got tired of hearing about it and we will allow them to wear their precious little white jerseys.

"So we've decided to have a little fun with our uniforms and attempt to sort of 'Green-Out' the Superdome for this week's game. This will be a rare opportunity for our kids to sport the 'throwbacks' and I am sure they'll enjoy it. We're also encouraging our fans to wear green."

It was the duo's second touchdown hook-up of the quarter. | BOTTOM ROW: LSU RB Jeff Richardson was immediately drilled by Tulane senior MLB Samson Beck after catching a screen pass, which jarred the ball loose. Green Wave freshman FS Dre Harris would recover and return it 60 yards for a touchdown that put the final nail in the Tigers' coffin, making the score 45-7 with 6:59 remaining in the game.

Offense and defense play near-flawless football as #19 Tulane blasts through #13 LSU 45-7 to win ""The Battle for the Tiger Rag"" | QB Anthony High steps his game up with injured star RB Reggie Moore out, tosses 3 touchdown passes and runs for another as Green Wave improves to 5-0 | Team's biggest win over LSU since 1981 establishes Tulane as the new 'Top Dog' in Lousiana college football | Trip to The Swamp to take on #24 Florida next up on the agenda

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave, needing an important SEC West victory against its archrival LSU, played one of, if not the best game of the Geezy Era, taming the 13th ranked Tigers 45-7 Saturday night at the Louisiana Superdome. After falling behind 7-0 early, the Green Wave reeled off 45 unanswered points the remainder of the contest, knocking off their in-state rivals for the second time in three seasons while also avenging a 56-31 loss to the Tigers last year at Tiger Stadium.

Tulane QB Anthony High led the Green Wave offense, going 15 of 21 for 271 yards and 3 touchdowns along with 1 rushing touchdown. High has now thrown 13 touchdown passes this season compared to only 3 interceptions.

TE Joel Bowers continued to be his #1 target in the passing game on Saturday, as the third year tight end finished with 6 receptions for a career-high 147 yards along with his first 2 touchdowns of this season. Bowers leads all Tulane players with 20 receptions for 430 yards on the year.

The Green Wave offense finished the game with 494 total yards. Despite losing star RB Reggie Moore for 6 to 8 weeks last week, the team's running game continued to thrive, finishing with 223 yards as a team. Running backs Anthony Barnett and B.J. Johnson combined for 98 yards on 22 carries. The team's leading rusher on the day however was FB Simon Parker with 76 yards, the bulk of which came on a sensational career-long 69 yard touchdown run to cap a 91-yard drive to open the second half which made the score 28-7. Parker also caught a touchdown reception to tie the game at 7-7 in the first quarter.

"I think what you're seeing is a lot of maturity on that side of the ball and veteran leadership,"" said Tulane head coach D. Geezy of his offense, which did not turn the ball over for a second consecutive week and converted 80% of its third down attempts on Saturday.

"We're learning each week how to win and how to become a top-tier team and that starts with not making critical mistakes to shoot yourself in the foot. We're playing mistake-free football and that shows in our record."

The team's defense also continues to show amazing improvement and a penchant for big plays. LSU QB Keith Null was sacked four times on the night and intercepted twice, both by freshman FS Dre Harris, who now has four picks on the year.

Harris, a 4-star recruit this past off-season, continued to be a turnover magnet, returning a fourth quarter fumble 60 yards for a touchdown to put the game away at 45-7. It was his third return touchdown of this season.

Tulane now has 6 return touchdowns defensively this year, besting the team's total of 5 in 2013 as the most by the Green Wave under Geezy.

"The guy roams the field back there and covers a lot of ground with his blazing 4.32 speed," said Tulane assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Charles Kelly.

"We call him Tecmo around here because he reminds of us of Ronnie Lott on those old Tecmo Bowl games, basically having the ability to cover an entire half of the field all by himself. He is really a special player and will most certainly be playing on Sundays years from now."

Tulane's win over LSU is its biggest over their in-state rival since 1981, when the team defeated the Tigers 48-7 at the Superdome.

"This was a significant win for the program because let's face it, LSU has been the big brother of Louisiana collegiate athletics for a long time now," said Geezy.

"For us to beat a team like LSU and do it the way we just did it, it says a lot about where our program is headed.

                    "The stakes just got raised."

Tulane (5-0, 3-0) will travel to Gainesville to take on #24 Florida next week at The Swamp. The Green Wave defeated the Gators 31-28 last season at the Louisiana Superdome via a 17-yard touchdown pass from former Tulane QB Curtis Byrd to Moore with 0:18 remaining.

Thanks guys...High most certainly turned it up a notch when we most needed it. I felt a lot more focused on offensive efficiency now that our home run hitter Reggie Moore is injured.

There was no way I would predict that we'd be 5-0 at this stage. Something that has become pretty evident: We have established the Superdome as a tough venue for other teams to win in. I think we've won something like 9 or 10 straight at home now.

This next game at Florida, away from the dome, will be a big test.

Harris has been even better than I thought he would be. The guy is a ballhawk. He may go down as the best safety I have ever had when it is all said and done. As I alluded to on the write-up, he reminds me of Ronnie Lott on Tecmo Bowl - There is never too much ground for him to cover.

(Yes I know it's still very early )
I'm not ready to declare ourselves SEC crown-worthy yet. There is still a long way to go and some tough games remaining. We're in a good spot though. With 6-time SEC champion Alabama with two losses already and with us having a tie-breaker over LSU, we have a STRONG chance at winning this thing. We just have to take it one game at a time and that starts with this tough game at the Swamp.

Thanks...I wanted to change it up a bit. The all-green looks nice. I may have to break it out more often. I don't want to do it too much though so where it isn't special anymore.

                        What's the story on Bama/Georgia?

Hopefully it is a sign of things to come. Tulane owes LSU a LOT of punishment for the beatings they have handed out over the years. There is a new king of college football in Louisiana. It should be quite a rivalry here moving forward.

With the success we had with the greenout, maybe I should do it more often. I'll save them for big games. It will certainly be something we bust out every other year versus LSU. The all-green combo looked pretty badass. We used it a couple times in the early years of this dynasty, but it takes on a whole new flair now that the team looks to be great.

We ran the ball well, converted 80% of third downs, scored on defense, and did not turn the ball over ourselves. You do that in this game or in real life, you'll win 9 times out of 10 no matter who you play.

Tulane | Team hauls in six committments, including QB Manning
                            Wed, 30 Sep 2015 7:30:49 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that the Tulane Green Wave have signed 6 of the 10 players that visited their campus during the weekend of its big 45-7 victory over rival LSU: 4-star QB Jamie Manning (6-1, 195 pounds, Georgia, #5 QB prospect), 4-star DT Curt Fletcher (6-2 280 pounds, Louisiana, #12 DT prospect), 4-star FS Eric Bryant (6-0 207 pounds, Texas, #3 FS prospect), 4-star WR Bobby McCall (6-1 174 pounds, Texas, #13 WR prospect), 3-star OLB David Reid (6-2 194 pounds, Texas, #38 OLB prospect), and 2-star FB Marcus Young (6-2 223 pounds, Louisiana, #16 FB prospect).

All of the players are likely to see playing time next fall as freshman except for Manning, who the team expects to redshirt and set up to possibly be its quarterback following current-junior QB Anthony High's departure after next season. Manning is the cousin of current NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning.

"All six of these guys are clearly big-time impact players, a few of which will probably start," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"I'd hate to single anybody out from this great group but Manning is definitely the one we are the most excited about. He has a laser-rocket arm that is extremely accurate and I definitely think he has a chance to be the quarterback of the not-so-distant future here."

The 6 commitments brings Green Wave's total commitment number up to 11. The team has now signed 7 of the nation's top 150 players according to ESPNU's scouting service. With two blue chip recruits in the fold and five 4-star caliber players also committed to the school, this is already by far the best recruiting class Tulane has ever seen. Geezy hopes it is a sign of things to come.

"This is without question the best recruiting class this school has ever seen. Hopefully all of the players pan out once they hit the field because as we all know, football isn't played on paper," said Geezy.

"With that said though, it is pretty evident; Tulane and the city of New Orleans has suddenly become a recruiting hot spot. Young players want to come to this city and this school has become extremely attractive to prospects now that we're in the SEC and enjoying a good bit of success thus far. We hope this is a sign of things to come as we continue to improve this program and watch it grow into something special.

"We want to become a program that contends each and every year for championships and this stellar class will strengthen that goal."

                            Wed, 30 Sep 2015 7:30:49 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that the Tulane Green Wave have lost two of the players it had targeted, each committing to other schools: 4-star OG Jamaal Hester (6-2 330 pounds, Illinois, #5 OG prospect, committed to Notre Dame) and 4-star MLB Trey McDonald (6-0 227 pounds, Louisiana, #1 MLB prospect, committed to LSU).

Both players had visited Tulane's campus during the weekend of the team's big 45-7 victory over rival LSU but each had previously soft-committed to the school's they eventually chose prior to their visit in New Orleans.

Yeah I thought that was pretty random. I don't think I have ever heard of a person from North Dakota PERIOD, much less of a stud, blue chip player from there.

This class you are putting together could turn your program into a dynasty, it is simply a sick class.
It's a typo...Thanks for catching that. It should read 299.

I am expecting big things from this class. Even the 3 star guys look like potential studs. I am most excited for Manning though. There was no way I was going to pass on a 4-star QB with that name. Another Manning in New Orleans...It's a match made in heaven.

I am leaning strongly to plugging Andrews in at CB. I think when you have a guy that fast with those type of coverage skills, he'd be wasted if I was to put him at WR. Perhaps he can develop into a 2-way star a la Charles Woodson.

I am amazed at the success we've had in recruiting this year. I didn't think it was possible to put a class together like this on Heisman level. Grabbing 7 of the top 150 players should put us in position to be national title contenders for years to come. Looks like kids really want to come to New Orleans and the culture is changing!

Following a failed fake punt by Florida, Tulane went for the quick strike as QB Anthony High found WR Brennan Carpenter on a deep post pattern for a 50-yard touchdown completion that cut the Green Wave's deficit to 21-14 in the second quarter. On the play, Gators SS David Williams mistimed his jump and batted the ball directly into the hands of Carpenter.

                                THE DREAM CONTINUES

After falling behind early, Tulane reels off 31 unanswered points en route to a triumphant 45-28 victory over #24 Florida to keep its SEC title hopes alive | QB High shreds Gators' secondary for a career-high 353 yards and 4 touchdowns, leading yet another stellar day for the Green Wave offense | Team's opportunistic defense continues its penchant for timely big plays | Tulane improves to 6-0, will face South Florida at the Superdome following their bye week

Gainesville, FL -- The magical ride that is the 2015 Tulane football season continued on Saturday as the Green Wave scored 31 straight points to defeat the Florida Gators 45-28 Saturday evening at ""The Swamp."" Tulane trailed 28-14 with less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter following a touchdown run by Florida RB Alex Smith prior to going on its scoring run.

Led by another strong performance by junior QB Anthony High, the Tulane offense rallied back with its prolific passing attack. High finished the game 24 of 37 for a career-high 353 yards and 4 touchdowns with just 1 interception, which came on a pass that was tipped at the line of scrimmage. The Green Wave offense amassed 506 total yards against the overmatched Florida secondary (top four CBs each rated between 69 to 72 overall).

"We knew coming in that we had some matchups that were advantageous to us in the passing game and we exectued the game plan to perfection," said Tulane head coach and offensive play-caller D. Geezy.

Tulane came out on fire, scoring a touchdown on an 8-play 72-yard opening possession in which High was 6 of 6 for 70 yards and had a two-yard touchdown completion to FB Simon Parker. Florida would answer back with 21 straight points however, putting the Gators ahead 21-7.

The Gators (2-3) would go for the early dagger midway through the second quarter. Facing a 4th and 15 at their own 48-yard line, Florida head coach Will Muschamp would call for a fake punt. The direct snap went to the up-man, Smith, who was stuffed after just a 2 yard carry, setting Tulane up with the ball at midfield.

On the very next play, High would hit WR Brennan Carpenter on a spectacular 50-yard pass for a touchdown, making the score 21-14.

The two teams would then trade scores again going into the halftime locker room. Parker's 5-yard touchdown run, his second score of the day, cut Florida's lead to 28-21 at the half.

In the second half, it was all Tulane. High's 14-yard touchdown pass to TE Joel Bowers on the opening possession of the third quarter tied the game at 28-28. Bowers was once again High's favorite target on the night as the junior hauled in 8 receptions for 149 yards, both career-highs. Bowers leads the Green Wave with 28 receptions for 579 yards and 3 touchdowns on this season, on pace to shatter all of his previous career-high season totals.

Bowers' fellow TE Justin Thomas' 6-yard touchdown reception later in the third quarter gave Tulane its first lead since the first quarter, making the score 35-28.

The game was put away early in the fourth quarter. With Florida driving in Tulane territory, Green Wave SS Brant Gilbert blitzed and sacked Gators true-freshman QB Vincent Powell, causing him to fumble. Recently benched freshman DT Jesse Sanders, in for fatigued junior starting DT Myron Dawson, the player who supplanted him in the line-up, scooped up the football and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown which all but put the game away at 42-28.

The Tulane defense collected 3 turnovers on the day and Sanders' touchdown marked the 8th return touchdown of the season by the opportunistic unit. Freshman FS Dre Harris had yet another lights-out performance, leading the team with 11 tackles and 2 sacks on the day.

The Gators (2-3, 1-3) would string together one last drive and penetrated the Tulane red zone. However Powell's third down pass with 5:51 remaining was intercepted at the 18-yard line by Tulane sophomore DE Jason Robinson, who had dropped back into pass coverage on a zone blitz, in effect ending the game.

Following the interception, Tulane went on a long, time-consuming 12-play drive which featured all running plays and ate up over five minutes of possession time. PK Cody Bennett's 32-yard field goal concluded the drive and extended Tulane's lead to 45-28 with just 0:12 remaining, ending all hopes of a Florida miracle comeback.

The win is Tulane's second straight over Florida, marking the first time since the 1934 and 1935 seasons, when both schools were in the SEC, that the Green Wave has defeated the Gators in consecutive years. Tulane defeated the Florida 31-28 last season at the Louisiana Superdome via a 17-yard touchdown pass from former Tulane QB Curtis Byrd to currently injured starting RB Reggie Moore with 0:18 remaining.

Tulane (6-0) will host South Florida (1-3) in two weeks at the Louisiana Superdome following a BYE week. Last season, the then 11-1 Bulls bested the Green Wave by .006 points in the final 2014 BCS Standings, winning the final At-Large BCS berth over then 10-2 Tulane.

Early in the fourth quarter, Tulane SS Brant Gilbert sacked Florida freshman QB Vincent Powell and forced a fumble. Green Wave freshman reserve DT Jesse Sanders then scooped it up and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown to give his team a commanding 42-28 lead with less than 8 minutes remaining.
