    #10 27 -- 4-1 (2-1)
    #14 31 -- 2-1 (1-0)

TOP ROW: Back-up QB Chris Moore's second quarter pass was intercepted by LSU CB Jake Crenshaw and returned 64 yards for a touchdown which gave the Tigers a 10-7 lead and completely turned the tide of the game. | BOTTOM ROW: LSU QB Michael Robertson's 4-yard touchdown pass to WR Dominic Holmes capped off an 8-play opening second half possession and increased the Tigers' lead to 24-10.

MANNING-LESS TULANE FALLS TO LSU 31-27 AT TIGER STADIUM

Freshman star quarterback injured on his team's second possession, back-ups' costly interceptions doom Green Wave in crushing defeat | Third string QB George Ford, seeing his first action in five seasons with the Wave, unable to complete potential legendary comeback attempt | Geezy: Manning expected to be okay for next week's crucial game at #18 Georgia

Baton Rouge, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave lost its leader in true freshman starting QB Jamie Manning (80) less than five minutes into the game and mistakes by the team's two backups ultimately were too much to overcome as the Wave fell to the rival LSU Tigers 31-27 Saturday afternoon at Baton Rouge. Manning, who has thrown 10 touchdowns this season, left the game in the first quarter after suffering an abdominal strain when he was hit as he attempted a pass. The injury came on the first play of the Wave's second series of the game.

Manning had directed an 8-play 80-yard drive on the game's first possession which took up 2:28. The drive concluded with a 50-yard touchdown run by RB Brett Curtis on a 4th and 1, giving the Green Wave an early 7-0 lead. It would be Manning's only full series though.

Redshirt senior backup QB Chris Moore (75), seeing his first extended action since week 10 last season when he subbed in for former Wave QB Anthony High, struggled versus the Tigers' ferocious defense. Moore came in with his team nursing an early 7-3 lead, however an ill-advised second quarter pass was intercepted by LSU CB Jake Crenshaw and returned 64 yards for a touchdown which gave the Tigers a 10-7 lead.

The Tigers, who took a 17-10 lead into the halftime locker room, would score on their first possession of the second half to extend the lead to 24-10. Moore would throw another interception on Tulane's next series and LSU quickly cashed it in for a 2-yard touchdown pass from QB Michael Robertson to RB Brad Frank, giving the Tigers a commanding 31-10 lead. Moore was 8 of 15 for 129 yards with two interceptions.

It was at that point Tulane head coach D. Geezy opted to go with third string QB George Ford (71), a redshirt senior who had not taken a single snap during his entire career with the Wave. The inexperience did not phase Ford however as on the first series of his career, he directed an 11-play 82-yard drive which took up 3:03 and culminated with a 12-yard touchdown pass to RB Reggie Moore on a screen play that made the score 31-17. Moore finished with a game-high 10 receptions for 84 yards, his second straight 10-catch performance. He sufferred a rib injury with four minutes remaining however and was unable to finish the game.

"We decided that due to the turnovers, we wanted to go with George despite the fact he had never played," said Geezy.

"He has been excellent in practice all season and we thought he deserved the shot. We think the world of Chris, but the interceptions directly cost us 14 points and put us far behind.

"Ford stepped in, and I thought his play brought a lot of momentum to us."

That momentum would make its way to the Tulane defense. The Green Wave made it a one possession game when freshman OLB Larry Branch intercepted Robertson in the fourth quarter and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown which made the score 31-24 with 8:04 remaining. A field goal by Tulane PK Cody Bennett with 3:53 remaining cut the Tigers' lead to 31-27.

LSU (2-1, 1-0) would get the ball back with an opportunity to run out the clock with their ""four minute offense."" However Robertson threw his second interception of the quarter, this one to Wave sophomore CB Cedric Burnette, setting up Tulane at their own 49-yard line with a chance to drive for the go-ahead touchdown with 2:27 left.

Ford, playing without his favorite target (RB) Moore, who was injured on the team's previous possession, had an opporunity to etch his name forever in the Tulane history books with an improbable last second drive to cap off the Green Wave's epic comeback. However, on 3rd and 5 with 1:29 left, he threw an interception to Tigers OLB Jose Wells, turning the ball back over to LSU and allowing them to run out the clock and hold onto their narrow victory.

"We're not going to make excuses today; This was a game we felt we had a chance to win despite the injuries to Manning and the one to Reggie late in the game," said Geezy.

"I thought Ford did an excellent job given the circumstances but at the end of the day, we made the big mistake that cost us.

"We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves. All we can do is use this as a learning experience and move on to our next opponent."

Tulane (4-1, 2-1) will travel to Athens next week to take on #18 Georgia (3-1, 1-1). The Green Wave defeated the Bulldogs 24-14 last season at the Louisiana Superdome.

No doubt about it guys...This was a huge loss. At this point, the goal is now clearly just to survive SEC play and win a second straight conference title.

It is amazing just how different our offense was without Manning at the helm. That 90 THP of his is a lot more important than I realized.

Hopefully Manning can pull the team back together and get you the W.
I agree that the backups did not play horribly but they clearly were not on the same level as Manning, in terms of both arm strength and accuracy. Not to mention the ""confidence"" factor. I just did not feel as comfortable with them under center as I had been with Manning.

I really wanted to run the ball a lot more in the second half since we had our backup QBs playing (Brett Curtis' YPC average is off the charts). However we just got down way too big to be able to stick with the run.

We'll get back on track tonight against Georgia and I think Manning rebounds with a big game.

We're still not out of it yet. There is still a lot of football to be played. However the margin of error is basically erased. We must win out. Hopefully Bama keeps winning and sets up a colossal matchup for us down the road.

Ford played very well for a first-timer. I hadn't used him before and I came away impressed. With that said though, hopefully he never needs to see the field again except for in mop-up duty.

Turnovers will get you beat every time.

Offensively, their QB and RB look pretty mediocre on paper. However they have a couple of excellent receivers and they have a tight end that looks like a beast too (he caught 96 receptions as a freshman!). They also have a very, very good offensive line.

Defensively, they run a 3-4, which has given me fits throughout this dynasty. I also think deep shots down the field may prove difficult versus their secondary (all of their top 3 corners have 94+ speed).

I'm expecting a close game tonight but we should be able to pull it out if we limit mistakes. Don't discount Georgia's homefield advantage though!

On the game's very first play from scrimmage, Tulane star RB Brett Curtis follows his blockers and races 92 yards for a career-long touchdown run, giving the Green Wave an early 7-0 lead. The former Alabama transfer now has an astounding 650 yards on only 67 rushing attempts, averaging 9.7 yards per carry on the year.

Defense holds Bulldogs to just 128 total offensive yards as Tulane shuts out an opponent for the first time since 1997 | Despite dominant offensive performance by the Wave, freshman QB Manning struggles versus Georgia's 3-4 defense, tossing four interceptions | Home date against struggling Kentucky next up for 5-1 Tulane

Athens, GA -- The Tulane Green Wave scored early, very early and often on their way to a dominating 40-0 slaughter of the 18th ranked Georgia Bulldogs Saturday night in rain-soaked Athens. Redshirt sophomore RB Brett Curtis, who transferred to Tulane from Alabama last year, burst through the Bulldogs' defense on the very first play of the game and sprinted 92 yards for a career-long touchdown which gave the Wave an early 7-0 lead just seconds into the game. The former blue chip and top 10 recruit in the nation finished the game with 136 yards on just 10 carries. He came into the game averaging over 9 yards per carry and now has 650 rushing yards on just 67 carries this season, a 9.7 average. Saturday night marked his third straight 100-yard game.

Tulane freshman QB Jamie Manning's 23-yard touchdown pass to fellow freshman WR Brandon McNeil gave Tulane a 17-0 advantage in the second quarter and they led 23-0 at halftime. McNeil finished the game with a career-high 5 receptions for 83 yards and a career-high 2 touchdown receptions.

Georgia (3-2, 1-2) had problems on offense all evening. Bulldogs QB Roy Cross finished just 11 of 21 for 111 yards while also throwing 1 interception, which was made by Wave CB Cedric Burnette in the end zone for a touchback in the fourth quarter on a deep pass. RB Eric Brunner finished with only 36 rushing yards, and due to Cross being sacked four times, Georgia finished with just 17 rushing yards as a team.

The Bulldogs shot themselves in the foot all night and had a staggering 11 penalties for 89 yards. Their offense finished just 1 of 12 on third down on a night in which they rarely threatened to score. The closest they would get to scoring points came in the first quarter.

Following an interception by Bulldogs MLB Andrew Kelly, who returned it to the Tulane 2-yard line before being tackled at the last moment by Wave RB Reggie Moore, Georgia faced a fourth and goal from the 1. On the play, they decided to run a toss to Brunner however the senior back was stuffed for a loss by Tulane freshman MLB David Reid, which turned the ball back over to the Wave with 5:58 to go in the first quarter and set the tone for the rest of the defense's dominant night.

It was the Green Wave's first shutout of an opponent since a 56-0 road win over UL-Lafayette in 1997. Coincidentally, the Wave also shutout the Bulldogs 14-0 in 1955, making the Bulldogs just the fourth team they have shutout on two separate occasions in the football program's 123-year history.

The game wasn't all great for Tulane however. Manning finished 16 of 27 for 183 yards and 3 touchdown passes, however he threw a career-high 4 interceptions. He has now thrown 7 interceptions in his past two full games and has 13 touchdown passes and 8 interceptions this year; This coming after a hot start to his rookie campaign in which he threw 9 touchdowns and 1 interception in his first three starts. Tulane head coach D. Geezy is not alarmed.

"We certainly have a lot to clean up in regards to the turnovers. We knew there would be peaks and valleys with having a young quarterback and I have full confidence that we'll be able to get it corrected," said Geezy.

"I think as a coach, I have to do a better job of managing the position and making sure we're not asking him to do too much and forcing things. We came into this game thinking we'd have a chance to take a couple of deep shots but their secondary played it well and came away with some turnovers. We'll get this thing fixed and I have no doubt that the quarterback we saw in the first three games is the real Jamie. Slumps happen and when you have a freshman quarterback, they definitely happen."

Tulane (5-1, 3-1) will host Kentucky (1-5, 0-3) next week at the Louisiana Superdome. The Green Wave defeated the Wildcats 48-28 last season in Lexington.

Early in the first quarter, after a Tulane turnover gave Georgia possession of the ball at the Tulane 2-yard line, the Bulldogs faced a 4th and goal from the 1. They elected to run a toss play to RB Eric Brunner and he was stuffed behind the line of scrimmage by Green Wave MLB David Reid and his teammates, turning the ball back over on downs and putting an end to Georgia's best scoring opportunity of the night.

Kentucky should offer little resistance next week but I am always hesitant to say that about any game especially one in the SEC (*knocks on wood*)
I agree with everything you said...I may want to start to lean more on Curtis in the coming weeks with the way Manning has struggled lately after the hot start. Kentucky and Louisiana Tech may prove to be the perfect tonic for him though!

That is indeed my picture from my Baylor dynasty. When I first started this report, I considered plugging in the old PS2 so I could take a new screenshot of ""Coach Geezy"" with Tulane colors rather than the Green and Yellow of Baylor, I just never got around to doing it. If I'm not mistaken, that coach photo is from NCAA 2008 on the PS2 back when we actually had coaches roaming the sideline.

Thanks for checking in and I appreciate the kind words!

Thanks man...I won't take these next couple of games lightly. Kentucky has played us tough (except for last year) and Louisiana Tech runs the dreaded ""aggressive no huddle"" which can give you fits if they get on a roll early.

I'm just going to continue to take this thing one game at a time.

Thanks man...It seems like every week there is another element I decide to add. I used to not do previews, but I am starting to see the value in them. Not only for the reader, but also for myself so that I can get to know the opponent better.

I'm only playing two games per week these days (Tuesdays and Saturdays) and because of that I have plenty of time to learn the opponent and let the excitement of each week build up.

QB Jamie Manning connects with RB Reggie Moore on a ""swing screen pass"" and the junior all-purpose phenom does an electrifying spin move to get past a linebacker in one on one coverage before diving into the end zone to give his team an early 7-0 lead. QB Manning throws for 352 yards and four touchdowns as Wave improves to 6-1 | RB Moore and WR McNeil each haul in two touchdown receptions to help Tulane win its 17th straight game at the Superdome | Team will host 6-1 Louisiana Tech next week in homecoming game

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave fell behind to Kentucky 14-13 with under two minutes remaining in the first half however by the time halftime came, they were up 27-14. The team would go on to outscore the Wildcats 10-0 in the second half en route to a 37-14 victory Saturday afternoon at the Louisiana Superdome. QB Jamie Manning lead Tulane's offense, shredding through Kentucky's defense while finishing 24 of 31 for 372 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Green Wave extended its Superdome winning streak to 17.

Manning, a 4-star recruit this past off-season, was 17 of 21 for 281 yards and 3 touchdowns at halftime and had no problems dissecting the Wildcats' secondary. Junior RB Reggie Moore and freshman WR Brandon McNeil were his favorite targets on the day. Moore finished the game with a team-high 8 receptions for 51 yards and two touchdowns, both coming on screen passes. McNeil, a blue chip recruit, finished with 5 receptions for 176 yards and two scores. His career-long 78-yard touchdown showed off his amazing 4.26 speed as he blew past Wildcats CB A.J. Goddard and gave the Wave a 20-14 lead in the second quarter, a lead in which they would never relinquish.

"We knew that we would be able to have some success with our vertical game today," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

""It was a big part of our game plan to get McNeil some deep passes. We thought we had some good speed mismatches offensively today and I think it showed in the way we were able to make plays down the field throughout the game.""

McNeil leads the team with 622 receiving yards and he has 24 receptions this season, representing a nation-high 25.9 yards per catch average. Moore has a team-high 51 receptions for 486 yards and a team-high 6 receiving touchdowns on the year.

Kentucky (1-7) struggled to move the ball offensively on the way to dropping their sixth straight game. Wildcats QB Kenny Holmes, playing in place of injured starting QB Joe Montgomery, was sacked six times. He finished the game 19 of 28 for 189 yards and was unable to get any big plays downfield, settling mostly for underneath passes. The Wildcats finished just 2 of 13 on third downs and had just 50 rushing yards as a team.

"I thought this was a good team win. We executed well in all three phases today," said Geezy.

"We really focused on not overlooking this opponent today. They have given us some problems in the past and I thought our team did a great job of not taking this team lightly. They're having a tough season, but they have some good talent over there."

Tulane (6-1) will host Louisiana Tech (6-1) next week at the Louisiana Superdome. The game will mark the two schools' first meeting since 1998, a 63-30 home win by the Green Wave. Tulane is 8-0 all-time against the Bulldogs, whose only loss this season came 45-17 at Hawai'i in week four.

After going down 14-13, Tulane would quickly regain the lead when QB Jamie Manning connected with speedy freshman WR Brandon McNeil for this 78-yard touchdown which gave the Green Wave a 20-14 lead. The blue chip recruit from this past off-season also hauled in a 17-yard third quarter touchdown and finished the game with 5 receptions for a career-high 176 yards.
