      N/R 35 -- 6-2
      #11 45 -- 7-1

Tulane QB Jamie Manning rushes for his first of two rushing touchdowns of the day, this one from two yards out to make the score 24-0 in the second quarter. It was the first rushing touchdown of Manning's career and he finished with a career-high 57 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns to go along with his 4 touchdown passes.

TULANE SURVIES AGAINST PESKY LOUISIANA TECH IN 45-35 SHOOTOUT

QB Manning accounts for six touchdowns to lead the Green Wave to a closer than expected 18th straight Superdome win | QB Payne and the Bulldogs' offense fires on all cylinders, shreds Tulane's defense for over 500 yards through the air but their late rally falls short | Green Wave must quickly turn the page with pivotal SEC clash at #2 Alabama next on the slate

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave heard all week about their game against up-and-coming Louisiana Tech being a proverbial ""trap game"" with a date at #2 Alabama on the horizon and despite moments on Saturday where it seemed like the Green Wave would pull away, the Bulldogs would not lay down. In the end though, the 11th ranked Wave were able to hold on for a wild 45-35 victory at the Louisiana Superdome over the Bulldogs, picking up their 18th consecutive victory at their home venue in a game that featured nearly 1,000 yards of total offense.

Tulane freshman QB Jamie Manning accounted for all six of the Green Wave's touchdowns, passing for 4 scores and also getting the first two rushing touchdowns of his career. He finished the game 21 of 33 for 298 yards with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also ran the ball 16 times for 57 yards and the aforementioned 2 scores on the ground, all career-highs.

His counterpart for Louisiana Tech was the talk of the postgame chatter however. Bulldogs QB Erik Payne, a junior, finished a whopping 47 of 63 for 541 yards and 3 touchdowns, displaying a mastery of his team's no-huddle, ""Air Raid"" offense which features all shotgun formations. Redshirt senior WR Seth Sowell, a 2-star player that was once recruited by Tulane, was Payne's favorite target during the game and finished with 5 receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown.

Payne added a 3-yard touchdown run and an ensuing two point-conversion run in the final moments to cut the Green Wave's lead to 45-35 with 1:10 remaining. Louisiana Tech would recover the ensuing onsides kick, however they would go three and out and turn the ball back over to Tulane, who was then able run out the remainder of the clock.

"Give those guys a lot of credit. They came in here with a plan and they executed it very well," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"They had't shown that much of a heavy emphasis on the pass on film all year long so admittedly, that sort of caught us off guard. We weren't expecting to have to defend 60+ passes."

Louisiana Tech (6-2) also had not shown their penchant for heavy trickeration either. The Bulldogs surprised the Tulane special teams all afternoon long, running three fake punts throughout the course of the game, twice successfully. Their punter, redshirt sophomore Joe Foster, finished 2 of 3 for 27 yards, converting two first downs to extend drives, which led to a total of 10 points. It was the first three pass attempts of his career.

"They really pulled out all the stops today and emptied out the playbook," said Geezy.

Tulane had opportunities to put the game away throughout the afternoon, but ill-timed turnovers and penalties cost them. RB Reggie Moore's 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half was called back for holding and that play likely would have blown the game wide open at 31-8 early in the third quarter. Manning also missed on several deep passes during the game, which could have extended Tulane's lead and provided much-needed swings in momentum at critical junctures of the game. In the end though, it would not matter and Tulane would survive the upset scare.

"We said it all week that Louisiana Tech was a good football team," said Geezy.

"I don't care who you play, being a 6-1 team like they were coming in is an accomplishment and a mark of a good team.

"Was there ever a point in the game where we thought we wouldn't win? Probably not. But with that said, we knew we weren't going to win by just showing up today. Those guys can play, they have a heck of a quarterback, and they're well-coached."

Next up for Tulane (7-1, 4-1) is a date at #2 Alabama in Tusacloosa next Saturday in the newly dubbed ""Tidal Wave"" game. The game will feature former Crimson Tide RB Brett Curtis, a blue chip recruit who transferred to Tulane last off-season due to lack of playing time and now leads the Green Wave with 737 rushing yards. Green Wave senior starting CB Ethan Cantrelle, a former 4-star recruit, also transferred from Alabama last off-season along with Curtis.

The then-top ranked Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0) blew out the then-18th ranked Green Wave 51-17 the last time the two teams met at Bryant-Denny Stadium, which was back in 2014, Tulane's first season back in the Southeastern Conference following a 48-year hiatus. Last season however, then-top ranked Tulane beat then-9th ranked Alabama 13-10 via a 44-yard field goal by PK Cody Bennett as time expired. Tulane went on to win the SEC last year, halting Alabama's streak of six consecutive conference titles.

"The way I see it, we're playing for three things next week," said Geezy.

"1.) An opportunity to stay in the race to win the SEC West, 2.) A chance to put ourselves in position to be the conference's #2 BCS team should we not get the help we need to win the West, and 3.) To maintain our chance at playing in Miami (site of this year's BCS National Championship Game) in January.

"This one is going to be a dogfight and will probably be one of the biggest if not the biggest regular season game in our program's history."

Tulane | RB Curtis, CB Cantrelle ready for payback
            Fri, 28 Oct 2016 7:30:49 -0700
ESPN's Erin Andrews reports that Tulane Green Wave RB Brett Curtis, who transferred to Tulane from Alabama last off-season, is expected to see his role increased for the team's pivotal week 10 matchup against the Crimson Tide. Curtis, a blue chip signee by the Tide in 2014, leads the Green Wave with 737 rushing yards this season and boasts a whopping 9.3 yards per carry average.

The nation's #4 overall rated running back the year he came out of high school in Orange Grove, Mississippi, Curtis decided to transfer to Tulane after being relegated to #3 on Alabama's depth chart despite being promised a starting job by Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban. Leery of Curtis' lack of pure foot speed (89 ovr, 86 spd), Saban went out and signed current Alabama starting RB James Moore (92 ovr, 90 spd) that same off-season and one season later signed RB Randy Lee (90 ovr, 98 spd). Both players are currently #1 and #2 respectively on the Crimson Tide's depth chart at running back. Lee's acquisition in January of 2015 was the final straw for Curtis, who then transferred.

"Brett should have fresh legs coming into this game after not getting a ton of carries the past couple of weeks," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"I think in big games, you have to lean heavily on your best players and I don't think I'm letting any big secrets out by saying that we're expecting big things from Brett this week against his old team.

"Believe me, we know how important this game is to Brett."

CB Ethan Cantrelle (84 ovr), a redshirt senior this season, followed Curtis to Tulane and transferred the same off-season after seeing his playing time diminish at Alabama. Cantrelle is also from Orange Grove, Mississippi & was a high school teammate of Curtis and signed with Alabama as a 4-star recruit in 2012. He is now Tulane's top corner and despite not having any interceptions this season, he has put together a strong senior season, routinely shutting down opponents' #1 receivers while also registering 4 sacks as a blitzer. He is expected to be lined up almost exclusively against Alabama #1 WR Ben Allen (93 ovr) on Saturday night and will be looking to remind Saban and the Alabama coaching staff of his superb man coverage skills.

If I were gameplanning it, I would focus on the run, the freshman QB is going to have enough pressure on him, you at least want the ground game to back him up. Good luck!

You've read my mind for this gameplan. While I won't necessarily be ""run heavy,"" I do expect to try to run the ball a lot more than I have been lately. Against a stacked defense like this, this game won't be about taking advantage of mismatches; It will solely be about execution and not making mistakes. I've struggled against the 3-4 throughout this dynasty, so I need to play very focused. I only scored 13 points last time I played them and the year before that, they blew us out 51-17.

Look for RB Brett Curtis to get about 18 to 20 carries (which is high for him) and also look for big games in the passing game from both Curtis and RB Reggie Moore as well as from my two tight ends, Joel Bowers and Justin Thomas.

Alabama's CBs are all studs with 97 to 99 speed so I probably won't challenge them much and the deep vertical passing game is all but eliminated from this gameplan. I'm going to have to sort of ""reel in"" freshman QB Jamie Manning a bit against this defense.

I've been experimenting in practice mode with some of the personnel packages and may try to put both Curtis and Moore in the backfield together on some drives. Hopefully cyber-Saban wasn't video-taping my practices.

I'm pumped for this matchup! This is the kind of matchup I dreamed about back when I first started this dynasty.

No doubt about it, men. I'm pumped for this one. The Crimson Tide versus the Green Wave is becoming a bit of an unofficial rivalry.

""The Tidal Wave"" kicks off tonight!

QB Jamie Manning's 47-yard touchdown completion to WR Gerald Alexander concluded a 6-play 80-yard opening drive for Tulane, giving the Green Wave an early 7-0 lead. Manning took advantage of Alabama's decision to put OLB Richard Simmons in one on one coverage against the speedy Alexander.

                WELL-PREPARED #8 TULANE LEAVES #2 ALABAMA'S HEADS SPINNING FOLLOWING A 41-13 BEATDOWN

Green Wave plays near-flawless, racking up over 500 yards of total offense and committing no turnovers to defeat the Crimson Tide for a second straight season | RB Curtis rushes for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns versus his former team, fellow Bama transfer Cantrelle shuts down Tide's #1 wideout Allen to help Tulane keep pace in tight SEC West race | Team will put its 18-game Superdome winning steak on the line next week against Arkansas | Razorbacks handed Green Wave their only defeat of last season in 38-37 double-overtime thriller

Tuscaloosa, AL -- The Tulane Green Wave faced a tall order but in the end they simply looked like the better prepared team on the way to a stunning 41-13 blowout win over #2 Alabama Saturday in ""The Tidal Wave Game"" at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game was close early on, but two second half touchdown runs by former Alabama RB Brett Curtis helped put the game away as the Wave outscored the Crimson Tide 24-3 in the game's final two quarters. Curtis, who transferred to Tulane from Alabama following the 2014 season, finished with 132 yards on 16 carries against his former team.

The Green Wave came out swinging in the first quarter. After forcing an Alabama punt on the game's first series, Tulane QB Jamie Manning would direct a 6-play 80-yard drive which lasted two minutes. The quick opening possession would culminate with a 47-yard scoring strike to WR Gerald Alexander to give the Wave an early 7-0 lead. Manning finished the game 13 of 17 for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns before exiting the game in the third quarter with a hamstring injury.

"We decided to play it safe and hold Jamie out in the second half when his hamstring tightened up on him," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"He played very well today. He was 12 of 14 at halftime and he did a great job of directing the offense. He will be fine for next week."

Manning would direct a 10-play opening drive to start the third quarter and the possession ended with a 46-yard field goal by PK Cody Bennett to increase the Green Wave's lead to 20-10.

An interception by Tulane freshman OLB Larry Branch early on the Tide's first possession of the third quarter swung the momentum strongly in Tulane's favor. Just three plays following the turnover, Curtis would score on a 26-yard run which made the score 27-10.

"No question about it, that sequence was the turning point of the game," said Geezy.

"It wasn't until that moment where we thought not only do we have a good chance of winning but we also have a chance to run away with this thing."

...And that they did. Following a field goal by Alabama to make the score 27-13, the Green Wave would blow the game wide open. Back-up QB Chris Moore found RB Reggie Moore wide open on a wheel route on what was an apparent busted coverage and the junior speedster raced 87 yards for a touchdown which made the score 34-13. Except for his earlier 2-yard touchdown reception, R. Moore was held in check up to that point in the game as a receiver out of the backfield, but his career-long touchdown reception increased his pass catching totals to 6 receptions for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns on the evening. C. Moore finished the game 3 of 3 for 100 yards after replacing Manning early in the third quarter.

Two possessions following R. Moore's long touchdown reception, Curtis would provide the game's exclamation point. Already up 34-13 early in the fourth quarter, the redshirt sophomore ran 61 yards untouched for a back-breaking touchdown which made the score 41-13, putting the final nail in the coffin of his former team.

Curtis wasn't the only former Alabama player to have a big game. Tulane redshirt senior CB Ethan Cantrelle, who transferred from the Tide in the same off-season as Curtis, finished with only 2 tackles but blanketed Alabama #1 wideout Ben Allen the entire evening. Coming into the game as the Tide's leading receiver, the junior was held to just 1 catch for 2 yards by Cantrelle.

"We decided to put Ethan in one on one coverage all game long against Allen and to let him do his thing," said Tulane assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Charles Kelly.

"I couldn't be happier for the way he responded with a strong effort against a great receiver."

Alabama (8-1, 5-1) would get one last opportunity to score late in the game and drove all the way to the Green Wave 1-yard line. Despite having the ball at the 1-yard line with a first and goal, the Crimson Tide was held out of the end zone. FS Dre Harris' pass breakup in the end zone on fourth and goal ended the scoring threat.

The Green Wave would then go on an 11-play 72-yard drive to melt away the game's final 5:11.

Tulane finished the game 9 of 11 on third downs and never punted once. Both failed third downs resulted in field goals. Neither Manning or C. Moore was sacked once on the evening nor did the Green Wave offense commit a single turnover.

"Tonight was just a special night," said Geezy.

RB James Moore led the Crimson Tide with 98 yards on 17 carries, but Alabama's big deficit negated his touches in the second half. Tide QB Jake Parsons finished 21 of 34 for 243 yards and 1 interception.

Tulane (8-1, 5-1) will host Arkansas (3-5, 2-4) next week at the Louisiana Superdome. The Razorbacks defeated the Green Wave 38-37 last season in double overtime, handing Tulane its only loss of the season. The game was lost when Geezy's gamble to go for two following a touchdown backfired and R. Moore was stuffed just short of the goal line, giving the Razorbacks the upset win over the then top-ranked Green Wave in snowy Fayetville.

Tulane has won 18 consecutive games at the Superdome, including last season's 38-21 Sugar Bowl victory over Virginia Tech.

RB Brett Curtis takes a handoff and spins his way past a defender on the way to a 26-yard third quarter touchdown which gave Tulane a commanding 27-10 lead.

Yep...I think it is just a product of all those great recruiting classes they have year after year. All that great talent can't be on the field at once, so they end up losing guys.

Agreed. My vision for those two players has come to fruition. I wanted Curtis to be my beast on the ground and I wanted Moore to be primarily used as a pass catcher. It has been great. Hopefully they both come back next season.

Revenge will definitely be on my mind next week against Pig Suey. They beat us 38-37 by stopping us about one inch from the goal line last year on the game's final play (a two point conversion) and provided what is perhaps the most painful screen capture to look at that I have in this dynasty:

If not for that play, we would have been in the national title game. You better believe that we have revenge on our minds!

That game against rival Southern Miss is certainly looking bigger and bigger each week. I hope they stay undefeated; It could only help our National Title hopes to have a top 10 ranked, undefeated team on our schedule at the end of the year. I'd love to ruin their perfect season.

All good Tearz, I know how hard it can be sometimes.

You're right, very unexpected success there. I am still puzzled by it. They beat us 51-17 the last time we played in Tuscaloosa so I was stunned.

Now hopefully Bama can turn it around and beat LSU for us next week!

                    Thanks G...

I'm thinking that if Bama can somehow beat LSU, that would put us in a 3-way tie which SHOULD go to us since we'd likely have the highest BCS ranking, which to my knowledge is the tie breaker that would be used in this instance. But you and I both know that this game can sometimes be screwy when it comes to tie-breaker scenarios.

                      Courtesy

Last Meeting: Then-#18 ranked Arkansas defeated then-#1 ranked Tulane 38-37 in double overtime last season in Fayetville. On the final play of the game, sophomore RB Reggie Moore was stuffed on an off-tackle carry just inches short of the goal line by Arkansas MLB John Archie on the game-deciding two point conversion play.

Last Meeting at venue: Then-#18 ranked Tulane held on for a 17-10 win over Arkansas in 2014 at the Louisiana Superdome when former Razorbacks PR/WR Marquel Wade was nailed by former Green Wave CB/gunner Andrew Adams following a punt, causing a fumble which was recovered by Tulane sophomore CB/gunner Chris Garrison with less than two minutes remaining.

I'll make a note of that. I tend to stay away from toss plays in short yardage. It goes against my personal, real life principles. I hate giving a RB the ball 6 yards behind the LOS when we only need a yard.

TOP ROW: Tulane RB Reggie Moore takes a jet sweep handoff into the open field, breaks one defender's tackle attempt, and spins away from another defender on his way to a season-long 53-yard touchdown run which made the score 28-10 in the third quarter. BOTTOM ROW: Moore's spectacular third quarter continued just a couple of possessions later. This time, the junior all-purpose phenom catches a screen pass from QB Jamie Manning, outruns one defender and leaves Arkansas FS Steve Dunlap (a 4-star player once heavily recruited by the Green Wave) grasping for air with a spin move on the way to a 51-yard touchdown to blow the game wide open at 35-10 with 0:51 remaining in the period.

TULANE AVENGES ONLY LOSS FROM LAST SEASON WITH A 42-17 MASSACRE OF ARKANSAS

Green Wave overcomes 10-0 first quarter deficit to pick up their 19th straight victory at the Louisiana Superdome | QB Manning's precision passing and an electric performance by RB Moore guide #4 ranked Tulane to 9-1 record headed into a bye week | Unranked Nebraska topples #2 Oklahoma 52-51, putting Green Wave one step closer to their first ever BCS title game appearance

New Orleans, LA -- The Arkansas Razorbacks opened the game by going on a 13-play 80-yard drive which took up the game's first 4:04 and culminated with a touchdown pass by QB Rod Miller to give them an early 7-0 lead, with the first quarter evetually ending with the visitors up 10-0. However the 4th ranked Tulane Green Wave then opened up a giant can of whoop for the remainder of the game, scoring 42 straight points en route to a 42-17 shellacking of the Razorbacks Saturday evening at the Louisiana Superdome, where they have now won 19 straight.

Led by another strong performance by QB Jamie Manning, the Green Wave offense completed its second consecutive game without a turnover. Manning finished the evening 21 of 27 for 260 yards and 4 touchdowns while throwing no interceptions, giving him 26 touchdown passes on the year. His 49-yard touchdown pass to WR Derrick Adams with just 0:27 remaining in the first half gave Tulane its first lead of the night at 14-10, and they never looked back.

RB/KR Anthony Barnett's 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open up the second half made the score 21-10 in Tulane's favor and put momentum firmly on the Green Wave's side just seconds into the third quarter. After that, RB Reggie Moore took the game over.

The junior all-purpose threat scored a 53-yard touchdown on a "Jet Sweep" play, which included a broken tackle and a spectacular spin move in the open field to make the score 28-10 with 6:35 to go in the third quarter. Late in the period, the Schriever, Louisiana native would electrify the hometown Superdome crowd again, this time on a screen pass which he took 51 yards for a touchdown, all but putting the game away at 35-10 just before the fourth quarter. Moore finished the evening with 63 rushing yards on only 3 carries along with 4 receptions for 63 yards.

Late in the game, Manning would hit Barnett for a short 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to cap off another solid night in his first season in New Orleans. The true freshman from Decatur, Georgia finished the evening with a rock solid 207.5 passer rating.

"We really clicked on all cylinders tonight and after the slow start, our execution and precision level rose to a near unstoppable level," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

Arkansas (3-6, 2-5) had trouble moving the football despite its hot start. Miller finished the game 16 of 26 for 230 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. They also got a strong performance out of RB Roderick Moore, who finished with 100 yards on 23 carries. However their offense stalled several times and was unable to finish drives.

"I thought we probably blitzed a bit too much in the early going and after the first couple of drives, we decided to back off a little and focus on execution rather than forcing the issue," said Tulane defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Charles Kelly.

The win for Tulane avenges last season's 38-37 double overtime loss to the Razorbacks. It was the Green Wave's only loss in 2015 and came when the Green Wave were ranked #1 and fighting for a BCS National Title Game appearance.

Tulane (9-1, 6-1) will face Ole Miss (4-5, 2-4) at Oxford in two weeks following a bye week. The Green Wave defeating the Rebels 25-17 last season at the Superdome.

                          AROUND THE NATION

The Green Wave's BCS title game dreams got help on Saturday when the Nebraska Cornhuskers got a late field goal to defeat the #2 ranked Oklahoma Sooners 52-51 on the road. The Wave went into the week ranked 4th in the BCS behind #1 Penn State, the #2 ranked Sooners, and #3 LSU.

Despite making up some ground in the BCS, the team's hopes of a second straight SEC title were likely dashed following #3 LSU's 24-17 win over #8 Alabama. The Green Wave would need to win its final conference game next week against Ole Miss and hope for LSU to drop its two remaining conference games, at home next week versus Ole Miss and at Arkansas in two weeks. The Tigers hold the tiebreaker over Tulane due to their 31-27 win over the Green Wave in week 5.

Tulane senior RB/KR Anthony Barnett's 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, the first return touchdown of his career, set the tone for the second half, putting the Green Wave up 21-10 just seconds following the halftime break.

Yep...And in turn, one week after rooting for an Ole Miss win, we'll be trying to give the Rebels a beatdown; It has come full circle! This is the same situation as last year - We need to beat Ole Miss and LSU needs to lose to Arkansas. In some ways, I was disappointed that LSU lost. I was hoping for an all SEC National title game and a rematch with LSU, since they beat us without our starting quarterback Manning earlier in this season.

Honestly, and this may sound crazy for some, I almost would rather NOT win the SEC West at this point. Me winning the West and playing in the SEC Championship Game would just equal one more opportunity for me to lose or to suffer a major injury. The Tigers can have the SEC, I'd rather the BCS.

It's not unprecedented in real life for a non-conference champion to play in the title game so I am okay with that.

Thanks man...Manning is on fire and I see another big game coming this week for him. I like our matchups in this one. This is a dangerous team we're playing though. They have some pretty good playmakers on both sides of the ball.

You're probably going to have to win out and win big, because with PSU ahead you aren't a virtual lock yet.
I think we're in the clear as far as the #2 position if we win out. We have a good enough lead I THINK to hold off being leap frogged by Michigan or Oregon.

Thankfully, Southern Miss is having a great season and should come in ranked somewhere in the top 10 of the BCS for the season finale, which should only help strengthen our strong hold on the 2 spot if we win.

Hey - We've choked before so it's a valid concern. I have a good feeling about this team though. We have too many playmakers to slip up here down the stretch.

Thanks man...They ruined our perfect season last year so it felt good to get back at them and put a beat down on them. It was scary early there for a little while, but in the end, the better team came back and dominated!

EDITOR'S NOTE: As always when I am in a ""win and need help"" situation, I will play my game, advance to the next week without looking, then save. This way, I have to live with whatever results the sim gods hand down to me as far as the LSU/Arkansas result.
