Last Meeting: Sophomore RB Reggie Moore had 216 yards from scrimmage and sophomore PK Cody Bennett kicked six field goals to help guide then-#6 ranked Tulane to a 25-17 win over the Rebels at the Louisiana Superdome, clinching the SEC Western division by virtue of LSU's 25-9 home loss to Arkansas.

Last Meeting at Venue: Senior QB Curtis Byrd threw for 319 yards and 2 touchdowns while freshman RB Reggie Moore ran for 135 yards and 2 scores to help the then-18th ranked Green Wave win with ease over Ole Miss at Oxford 35-19 during Tulane's first season back in the SEC.

I never thought about the Conference USA angle with the Southern Miss game. You're right; I'm sure they'd love nothing more than to stick it to the team that left Conference USA for greener pastures. It's a big rivalry for us and it will be fun.

As for the Ole Miss running back and his whopping one touchdown run this season:

TOP ROW: Tulane QB Jamie Manning connects with WR Herbie Smith for a 13-yard first quarter touchdown which gave the Green Wave a 7-0 advantage. | BOTTOM ROW: Manning identifies a mismatch and finds RB Reggie Moore wide open for a 70-yard touchdown completion which made the score 21-3, blowing the game wide open with just 0:19 remaining in the first half.

MANNING, TULANE DOMINATE OLE MISS IN 31-3 SPANKING TO TAKE HOME SECOND CONSECUTIVE SEC WEST DIVISION TITLE

For the second straight year, Green Wave defeats Rebels and gets the help they need with Arkansas upset win over LSU on final weekend of SEC play to land in the SEC Championship Game | Freshman QB Manning throws for 303 yards and 4 touchdowns as Tulane dominates Rebels from start to finish | Team will travel to Atlanta in two weeks to face one-loss South Carolina in a rematch of their week four game, a 24-21 home win by the Wave | First things first: Tulane will host 11-0 rival Southern Miss at the Superdome next week in regular season finale with 19-game home winning streak on the line

Oxford, MS -- The Tulane Green Wave went into the day needing a win at Ole Miss and a loss by #14 LSU on the road against Arkansas. By the end of the day, they got both, defeating the Rebels 31-3 Thursday afternoon in Oxford and getting a 36-23 win by the Razorbacks, giving the Green Wave their second consecutive SEC West division title. Green Wave QB Jamie Manning went 19 of 28 for 303 yards and threw 4 touchdown passes, leading the Green Wave to its 10th victory of the season, giving them double digit wins for a fifth consecutive season.

The game was never really close. Manning's 13-yard touchdown pass to WR Herbie Smith made the score 7-0 in the first quarter and the Green Wave never looked back. Manning's 70-yard touchdown completion to RB Reggie Moore on a fly route made the score 21-3 just before halftime, all but putting the game away early. Moore was Manning's favorite target of the day and finished with 7 receptions for 110 yards. He now leads the Wave with 73 receptions for 779 yards and 10 touchdowns on the year and is second on the team with 322 rushing yards.

Manning now has 30 touchdown passes this season. He now needs just 6 touchdown passes in his final three games of the year to tie former Green Wave QB Shaun King's single season school record of 36, set during the Wave's undefeated 1998 campaign.

Ole Miss (5-6, 3-5) struggled to move the football all afternoon, finishing with just 151 offensive yards. Rebels QB Michael Newton went just 10 of 18 for 94 yards with 1 interception and his team's offense was a pathetic 1 of 12 on third downs on the day.

Tulane CB Ethan Cantrelle, playing in his first and what will be his only season with the Green Wave after transferring from Alabama, recorded his first interception of the year. The redshirt senior also sacked Newton on a cornerback blitz in the second half, giving him 5 sacks on the year. He also continued his penchant of shutting down an opponent's top receiving target, holding Rebels #1 WR Jim McCall to no catches on the day.

The Green Wave, currently #2 in the BCS rankings, will now face South Carolina (10-1, 7-1) in two weeks in Atlanta in the SEC Championship Game. The two teams played in week 4, a 24-21 victory by Tulane at the Louisiana Superdome, which gave the Gamecocks their only loss of the season.

Tulane won last year's SEC title game 26-24 over Tennessee, winning its first SEC Championship since returning to the conference in 2014 following a 48-year hiatus. Last season, the Wave needed a 25-9 Arkansas win over LSU in Baton Rouge on the final weekend of SEC play in order to win the West division.

"We definitely owe the Arkansas football team multiple steak dinners for what they've done for us the past two seasons," Green Wave head coach D. Geezy joked.

"We're now in position to establish ourselves as the dominate team in our conference and I am sure South Carolina is looking forward to our rematch from earlier this season. We cannot afford to look ahead however. We have a very game Golden Eagles team coming into the Dome next week. It's now a two game playoff for us, starting next week."

Tulane (10-1) will face undefeated rival Southern Miss (11-0) next week at the Louisiana Superdome. The Green Wave defeated their former Conference USA rivals 27-17 last season in Hattiesburg.

"I'm sure those guys would like nothing more than to ruin our season just like we want to ruin theirs," said Geezy.

"We're playing to stay in the national title race and they're playing for a perfect season and a BCS bowl berth. I think without question, this is the biggest "Battle for the Bell" game we'll ever see."

A loss and you could still be in the Sugar Bowl - and a BCS game is no joke :delight:
I'd think that an impressive win over Southern Miss and South Carolina would put us firmly in the National Title game. Gotta take it one game at a time though. Southern Miss has some insane speed and run the agressive no huddle that gives us fits (see Louisiana Tech game earlier this year).

As for the Sugar Bowl - Been there, done that. We want to be in Miami come bowl season!

Amazing isn't it? Arkansas has taken care of business against LSU two years in a row now for us.

A somewhat funny side note - I don't know how I did it, but I forgot all about the whole SEC West scenario by the time I advanced the week and saved. I turned the game off after saving and went to the grocery store with my wife. While we were shopping, I remembered that I had forgotten to check to see if LSU had lost. So I was in agony for a couple of hours until we got home from running our errands. In the back of my mind, I didn't really think they had lost anyway.

Needless to say, I was stunned and pleased with the results.

We were in this position last year and choked against Arkansas in a 38-37 double overtime thriller. Hopefully this team is ready to take the giant leap. Freshman QB Jamie Manning will have a lot of pressure on him!

The way I look at it, it's a 2-game playoff now - Round 1 against Southern Miss and Round 2 against South Carolina.

Can't wait to get it started tonight...We'll be ""Greening Out"" the Dome tonight!

Last Meeting: Former Tulane QB Anthony High's 70-yard touchdown pass to freshman WR Herbie Smith in the fourth quarter capped off a 317-yard two touchdown pass performance by the junior quarterback and provided the #4 ranked Green Wave with cushion in a close 27-17 victory over the Golden Eagles in rainy Hattiesburg last season.

Last Meeting at Venue: Led by senior RB Joey Roberts and freshman RB Reggie Moore, unranked Tulane rushed for 273 yards as a team to blow away Southern Miss 31-7 at the Louisiana Superdome in 2014.

That's pretty much what we did. Bend but don't break.

They have a very good team and I definitely can see why they have had such a great season. As you'll see in a moment though, they pretty much ran into a buzz saw at the Superdome.

Interesting side note about their team - Their starting QB Jordan Harvey missed most of the year with an injury and has only played the past 3 or so games. Their backup, 79 overall sophomore Paul Gray is their leading passer and has thrown 19 TDs and 4 INTs. The 81 overall starter, Harvey, meanwhile has thrown 10 TDs and 10 INTs. I'd call that a major QB controversy if there ever was one. It's too bad EA can't program in ""common sense"" to the CPU. There is no way Gray should not have been starting or at the very least, subbed in during our game

MANNING AND MOORE LEAVE GOLDEN EAGLES SEEING GREEN AS TULANE DISMANTLES PREVIOUSLY UNBEATEN RIVALS 59-21 IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

Freshman quarterback throws for a career-high 6 touchdowns and Moore dazzles with 230 all-purpose yards & 2 touchdowns as Wave ruins Southern Miss' perfect season | Tulane's 20th consecutive Superdome victory puts them just one win away from a trip to Miami for a national title shot | RB Curtis injured; Likely out for next week's SEC Championship Game versus South Carolina

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave came into Saturday Night's game hoping to solidify themselves as the #2 team in the BCS while also ending the BCS hopes of arch rival Southern Miss. The Wave succeeded in impressive fashion, defeating their former Conference USA rivals in a 59-21 rout at the Louisiana Superdome, in turn ending the 7th ranked Golden Eagles' dreams of a perfect season while also putting themselves just one victory away from a BCS National Title game appearance.

Tulane QB Jamie Manning had perhaps his most exceptional performance of his freshman year, going 22 of 32 for 328 yards while throwing for a career-high 6 touchdowns against the overwhelmed Golden Eagles secondary. Sophomore WR Herbie Smith was his favorite target on the night, catching a season-high 6 receptions for 82 yards while explosive freshman WR Brandon McNeil caught 3 receptions for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns. Freshman FB Marcus Young also contributed 2 receiving touchdowns as Manning continued to show his mastery of the Green Wave's complex offensive scheme.

Manning now has 36 touchdown passes this season, which ties former Tulane QB Shaun King's single-season school record.

"I honestly have not looked at Jamie as a freshman since about midseason," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"He is one of the smartest and most accurate quarterbacks I have ever seen. He has grown tremendously these past few months and he just continues to get better and better each week."

The Green Wave stormed out to a big 28-0 lead in the second quarter however Southern Miss would pull to within two touchdowns just before halftime when RB Andy Goodwin scored on a 5-yard touchdown run with 0:27 remaining to make the score 28-14, seemingly giving his team all the momentum heading into halftime. That momentum would be short-lived however, very short-lived.

On the ensuing kickoff following the score, Tulane star RB Reggie Moore zigged and zagged his way to a 99-yard touchdown that swung momentum back in Tulane's favor. The explosive return made the score 35-14 going into halftime, electrifying the Superdome crowd.

"At that point in the game, it was getting a little tight but like big time players usually do in big games, Reggie made a big play," said Geezy.

"RB Anthony Barnett is our main kickoff return guy, but when we get in a jam and feel we need a big play at a crucial moment, we put Reggie back there. Those moments are rare and he obviously delivered."

Moore would make a significant error to start the second half however. The junior all-purpose phenom fumbled on the opening kickoff of the second half and it was returned 22 yards by PK Joel Sullivan, quickly making the score 35-21 just seconds into the third quarter.

However Moore would make amends on the Green Wave's very next possession, taking a screen pass 65 yards for a touchdown which extended Tulane's lead back to 21 at 42-21. Moore finished the game with 230 all-purpose yards (39 rushing yards, 75 receiving yards, 116 return yards) and 2 touchdowns.

The Green Wave would go on to score the game's final 17 points. Their point total of 59 is the team's highest under Geezy and the most the team has scored since 2004, when they defeated UAB 59-55 at the Superdome. It is also the first time this season that the team has surpassed the 50 point mark.

Southern Miss (11-1) saw its perfect season go up in flames after starting the year 11-0 and looking at a strong possibility at playing in the school's first ever BCS bowl. The game got off to a poor start for the Golden Eagles, as RB Brian Mitchell fumbled on the game's opening possession, getting the ball jarred loose by Tulane MLB David Reid and having it recovered by SS Eric Bryant. Tulane quickly cashed it in for a 5-yard touchdown pass from Manning to TE Joel Bowers, and the Golden Eagles never recovered.

Southern Miss starting QB Jordan Harvey threw for 257 yards and a touchdown, but the Golden Eagles' offense was just unable to keep up with the speed of Tulane. His team is now likely to have to settle for the Liberty Bowl following Saturday night's embarrassing loss.

The night was not all good for the Green Wave however. The team lost standout RB Brett Curtis for 1 to 2 weeks with a back injury according to Geezy. The injury means the Alabama transfer from last year will miss next week's crucial SEC Championship Game versus #20 South Carolina (10-2). Curtis leads all Green Wave ball carriers with 991 yards on the season. Both Moore and Barnett are expected to carry the load for Tulane in his absence. Moore, technically the team's starting running back, has 77 receptions for 854 yards and a team-high 11 touchdowns this season, however he has just 361 yards rushing on limited carries this year. Barnett, a senior, is third on the team with 293 yards on the ground. He will likely take on Curtis' role, and see a good chunk of the carries next week.

Next week's SEC title game will be a rematch of the Gamecocks and Green Wave's week four contest in which the Wave won 24-21 at the Louisiana Superdome, where Tulane has now won 20 straight games. Tulane will be looking for its second consecutive SEC championship since its return to the conference in 2014, having defeated Tennessee 26-24 in last year's SEC Championship game.

The Wave's huge victory over their neighboring state rivals now firmly puts them in position to control their own destiny with a chance at a BCS title spot on the line. If they win, they will face defending national champion Penn State (12-0), who clinched its national title game spot with a 34-0 win over Pittsburgh this week.

"We said last week that we were going into a two-game playoff. Well now it is down to one game," said Geezy.

"This is what we've worked for since I got here in 2010. We are just one win away from Miami. It is an exciting time to be a fan of Tulane football."

Thanks man...It should be a great game.

Curtis really tore them up the last time we played so he'll be missed. However, I still think we have more than enough offensive weapons to get the job done for this one game.

Look for a big game from Reggie Moore and also a big game from unheralded senior third string RB Anthony Barnett, who has been underappreciated during his time here.

                            Kickoff is tonight!

TOP ROW: Tulane RB Reggie Moore's 67-yard touchdown run on the first possession of the 3rd quarter gave the Green Wave a 10-3 lead. | BOTTOM ROW: A few possessions later in the third quarter, Moore struck again. This time, he lined up as a slot receiver and ran a slant pattern, catching QB Jamie Manning's pass in stride for a 59-yard touchdown to extend his team's lead to 20-3.

#2 TULANE HOLDS OFF LATE SOUTH CAROLINA RALLY TO WIN 23-17, CLINCHES SECOND STRAIGHT SEC CHAMPIONSHIP AND A TRIP TO MIAMI FOR THE BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

RB Reggie Moore's 286 all-purpose yards and 2 third quarter touchdowns sparks Green Wave in RB Curtis' absence | Tulane able to overcome uncharasterically shaky performance by QB Manning | Team will face defending national champion Penn State, winners of 25 straight games | Moore expected to be invited to Heisman ceremony

Atlanta, GA -- The Tulane Green Wave had one of its least efficient offensive performances of the season on Saturday, but they were able to muster up just enough points to defeat the South Carolina Gamecocks 23-17 in the 2016 SEC Championship Game, beating the Gamecocks for the second time this season while also unofficially clinching the #2 spot in the BCS. RB Reggie Moore's two 3rd quarter touchdowns electrified the Georgia Dome crowd and helped Tulane amass a 20-point second half lead after being tied with the Gamecocks 3-3 at halftime.

Moore came into the game expecting to carry the load with the team's leading rusher, RB Brett Curtis, out for the game with a shoulder injury. He delivered, gaining a season-high 286 all-purpose yards on the evening, including a season-high 168 rushing yards. His two scores put the exclamation point on a third quarter in which the Green Wave outscored the Gamecocks 17-0.

South Carolina (10-3, 7-2) would attempt to put together a miracle comeback in the fourth quarter. QB Jamal Lawson's 1-yard touchdown pass to WR Kerry Hoffman was his second scoring toss of the final quarter and made the score 23-17 with just 0:29 remaining in the game. However, the Gamecocks' ensuing onsides kick attempt was recovered by Green Wave WR Gerald Alexander, putting the game away for Tulane, who defeated the Gamecocks 24-21 in week four this season.

Tulane's offensive total of 23 points was a season-low and represents the fewest points they have scored since a 13-10 win over Alabama in week 10 of last season. QB Jamie Manning had one of the least impressive performances of his freshman season, finishing just 13 of 31 for 238 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. His 41.9% completion percentage was a career low. At halftime, Manning was just 5 of 16 for 53 yards with 1 interception and a putrid 46.5 quarterback rating.

                              The team's 25% third down conversion rate (3 of 12) was also a season-low.

"They did a bunch of things similar to what they did in our first meeting earlier this year when we scored only 24 points," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"First of all, their offense did a great job of moving the football to help chew clock. Defensively, they did a great job of not getting beat over the top for big plays and keeping everything in front of them. They also have one of the best pass rushes we've seen all year."

Gamecocks DE Ryan Glover was a thorn in Tulane's side, finishing the game with 4 sacks. DT Matt Mitchell also chipped in with a sack of his own, giving South Carolina 5 for the game. In the end though, it would not matter as their offense could not muster any touchdowns until the final minutes when it was too late.

"We are very fortunate to get out of here with a win," said Geezy.

The win for Tulane clinches their second consecutive SEC title. The Green Wave defeated Tennessee 26-24 in last year's conference title game to win its first SEC title since its return to the conference after a 48-year hiatus.

By virtue of their win on Saturday, Tulane (12-1) has virtually assured themselves of a spot in January's Fed Ex BCS National Championship Game in Miami. The team would face #1 ranked Penn State, who defeated Oklahoma 52-31 to win last year's national title game in New Orleans. The Nittany Lions have won 25 straight games, dating back to the start of last season.

"We'll have plenty of time to talk about this between now and game time but we're obviously very excited," said Geezy.

"Penn State has a terrific program. Joe Paterno left after winning the national title in his 50th season but for the most part, they still do the same things. They like to run the football and have a great offensive line. They also play great defense. It will really be a battle between two teams with very contrasting styles.

"It'll be a challenge for us but it is one we certainly think we're capable of handling."

Notes: According to Tulane University sources, RB Reggie Moore is expected to be invited to next week's Heisman Trophy ceremony, though he is considered a long shot to win the annual award. He has just 529 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns, but he is mainly a threat as a receiver out of the backfield. He leads his team with 81 receptions for 953 yards and 12 touchdowns, all career-highs. He also has one kickoff return touchdown on the year. His main competition for the trophy will be Oklahoma QB Michael White, who is attempting to join former Ohio State RB Archie Griffin as only the second two-time Heisman Trophy winner.
