    #15 31 -- 10-3 (6-3)
    #1 41 -- 13-0 (9-0)

TOP ROW: On the second play of the third quarter with his team trailing 17-13, Tulane CB Tommy Andrews' caught a third quarter interception and spun past a Florida pursuer on his way to the end zone for a touchdown which gave the Green Wave a 20-17 lead just seconds into the third quarter. | BOTTOM ROW: Florida fumbled the ball away on its very next series following Andrews' pick-six. On the next play following the Gators' second turnover of the game, Green Wave QB Jamie Manning lined up with an empty backfield and heaved a deep pass to streaking RB Reggie Moore which was caught for a 43-yard touchdown to make the score 27-17, still less than a minute into the third quarter.

TULANE'S OFFENSE FIRES ON ALL CYLINDERS, HOLDS OFF FLORIDA TO WIN SEC TITLE GAME 41-31

Green Wave clinches spot in their second consecutive BCS National Championship Game, will face #2 USC in Pasadena | Manning's deep passes too much for Gators to overcome | For the second straight week, big play by CB Andrews sparks defending national champs | Moore has big game in his final opportunity to impress Heisman voters

Atlanta, GA -- The #1 ranked Tulane Green Wave trailed at halftime for the first time this season however they were able to come back and hold on for a 41-31 victory over #15 Florida, winning their third consecutive SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, Georgia. The Green Wave offense showed off its speed throughout the evening, giving the Gators a heavy dose of their vertical passing game. QB Jamie Manning went 14 of 25 for 314 yards and 3 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 22.4 yards per completion.

Manning and the Wave set the tone very early in the game. The sophomore signal-caller completed a 65-yard bomb to WR Brandon McNeil on the very first play from scrimmage all the way to the Gators' 17-yard line. Just three plays later, Manning hit RB Reggie Moore on a screen play in which the Heisman candidate took in from 6 yards out to give Tulane a quick 7-0 lead. Manning went 4 of 4 for 83 yards on the team's opening drive.

Florida (10-3, 6-3) quickly answered back however. Gators QB Tyler Skinner, playing this week in place of injured starting QB Vincent Powell, drove his team down on an 8-play drive. The redshirt sophomore quarterback would score on a draw play from 4 yards away to tie the game at 7-7.

He finished the day with a whopping 450 passing yards, taking advantage of the absence of Green Wave starting CB Cedric Burnette, who missed the game with a back injury. CB Eric Jefferson started in Burnette's place, and was routinely picked on as was the team's nickle and dime package defenders (CB Rich Young and reserve SS Daniel Carpenter), who were elevated on the depth chart due to Burnette's absence.

Skinner's 41-yard touchdown pass to freshman RB Eric Wilcox with just 0:53 to go in the first half gave Florida a 17-13 lead going into the halftime break. The Green Wave had not trailed at halftime since trailing LSU 17-10 in week four of last season (09/24/2016), a game they would go on to lose 31-27, which is the last time the team has lost.

Saturday night's deficit was short-lived - On just the second play of the third quarter, Skinner would make his first big mistake of the game, throwing an interception to Green Wave CB Tommy Andrews. Andrews, who scored his first career touchdown at a crucial moment during the team's regular season finale victory against Southern Miss, would juke his way past the Florida pursuit before diving into the end zone, giving his team a 20-17 lead in emphatic fashion just 0:16 into the second half.

Skinner would make another big mistake on his team's next drive. Running the ball on an option play, Skinner would get stripped of the football and Green Wave DE Desmond Stanley recovered it at the 43-yard line. Just one play later, Manning found Moore on a fly route for a 43-yard touchdown to put the Wave up 27-17. Moore finished the game with 204 all-purpose yards (62 rushing, 83 receiving, 59 kick returning) and 2 touchdowns. He now has 1,742 all-purpose yards and a nation-high 27 total touchdowns this season as he makes his case for the Heisman Trophy.

The Gators would not go away and continued to trade blows with the Green Wave. Following a deep 43-yard touchdown pass from Manning to McNeil which put the Wave up 34-24 early in the fourth quarter, it looked like the Wave would roll on for a victory. However the Gators would catch a break when Wave freshman RB/PR Bernard Davis would get stripped of the football on a punt return by Florida FS Matt Heinz with 7:01 remaining in the game. SS Erick Marquardt would recover for the Gators, giving them possession of the ball at the 48-yard line down by 10 points.

Florida would take advantage of the turnover by going on a 13-play 45-yard drive which culminated with a Wilcox's 4-yard touchdown run by Wilcox that cut Tulane's lead to 34-31 with only 5:29 remaining.

"You could sense that things were starting to get away from us and that we needed a big play from someone on the next possession," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

...And that they got. RB Brett Curtis, quiet for most of the day, would break loose for a 63-yard touchdown run on his team's ensuing drive. The scoring run put Tulane up 41-31 with just 4:01 remaining in the game. Curtis finished the day with a game-high 98 rushing yards.

The Gators would turn to their no-huddle offense, down by two scores with under four minutes remaining. They'd penetrate Green Wave territory, however Skinner's pass on 4th and 15 was completed to diving WR Andy Wright just inches shy of the first down marker, turning the ball over on downs and all but ending any hopes of a Gators comeback. It was Florida's second turnover on downs during the game as Wilcox was stuffed on a 4th and 1 carry by MLB David Reid at the Tulane 15-yard line early in the second quarter.

"I think you can point to three or four critical moments in tonight's game," said Geezy.

"Obviously the early second half turnovers which we quickly turned into two touchdowns were big. However the turnover on downs in the second quarter which cost them at least a field goal. And of course the turnover on downs at the end of the game. That's a critical point swing when you factor all of those instances in. We're very fortunate to get out of here with a win today."

The win for Tulane (13-0, 9-0) clinches the defending national champions a spot in the BCS National Championship Game in Pasadena, where they are likely to face #2 USC. The two teams have met only three times (USC holds a 2-1 series advantage), including a 21-12 Trojans victory in the 1932 Rose Bowl.

Notes: Tulane RB Reggie Moore exited the game with a strained pectoral muscle late in the third quarter and did not return. Moore, who missed several games during his sophomore season with a similar injury, is expected to be fine for the team's national title game matchup...Tulane's 13-0 record marks its best in school history, besting the team's record in 1998, when they finished the year 12-0.

Green Wave RB Brett Curtis' 63-yard fourth quarter touchdown run put Tulane up 41-31 with only 4:01 remaining.

Thanks man...I don't know if there has ever been a Heisman winner that did not lead his team in rushing. Reggie is definitely one unique individual. On paper, it is definitely a toss up between him and USC QB Danny Nolan.

Reggie winning it would be a great way to cap off his superstar career and Nolan winning it would definitely add a good subplot to the national title game. If this was real life, it would be an easy decision IMO (Nolan).

Florida had us on the ropes but you're right, it would've been tough for them to outscore us. We really carved them up with the deep ball against their somewhat slow secondary. USC will offer a much greater challenge in that regard. I expect a very similarly played national title game.

It may go down to the wire again just like last year's national title game where we needed a touchdown pass from Manning to Reggie with 0:02 left to win over Penn State.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Obviously, I haven't posted the game preview yet, but their team is pretty stacked. I expect this to be one of my team's biggest challenges sine the start of the dynasty. I think this one will go down to the final possession just like last year's title game did against Penn State.

Sadly, it will at some point. This dynasty has been a blast. I'd have to say this is the most fun dynasty I have ever had, even counting the ones from back during my childhood.

With me more or less committed to NOT buying NCAA '12 or Madden '12, this will probably be my last dynasty for at least a long while (time constraints). So what that means is that when I get the itch to play around football season, this will probably be the dynasty I will continue with, probably offline though. I've toyed with the idea of significantly cranking up the defensive sliders after this season, not just to make things more difficult, but also to sort of ""simulate"" losing Reggie Moore and playing offense becoming more challenging.

Thanks Shake...We have a chance to establish ourselves as a dynasty with a win against USC, which I suppose is the object of dynasty mode. haha

Funny you mention that. It's actually 1-1. I haven't really documented my recruiting this season much, but USC has the #1 recruiting class in the nation and we're #2. This National Title game is the rubber match I guess you could say.

Sorry for the delay on the game everyone...I actually won't be able to play this thing until Sunday night. The anticipation is definitely mounting. It feels like the type of build-up a bowl game in real life has. "

As a matter of fact, yes...It's back on the Season Preview at the start of this season.

We started the year #23 on that list, appearing on it for the first time after winning 19 straight at home coming into this season (20 if you count the Sugar Bowl win we had over Virginia Tech in 2015). We've established the Dome as a tough venue to come in and win in and we're now standing at 26 straight Superdome wins! This is the first time I have EVER been on this list on any NCAA game.

Something cool about being on the list - My whole defense now pumps up the crowd on 3rd downs on defense without me pressing any buttons. It is pretty awesome seeing the entire D trying to buck the crowd up and Brad Nessler now repeatedly mentions how loud the stadium is on big defensive downs.

                          A TOUGH PILL TO SWALLOW

Tulane's bid for an undefeated season and back-to-back national titles comes to a screeching halt in Pasadena in a crushing 20-13 loss to USC; Trojans win 2017 BCS National Championship | Green Wave loses QB Jamie Manning on their very first offensive play of the game, true freshman backup QB Antoine Atkinson unable to forever cement his place in Tulane legend | A year after catching the game-winning touchdown in last season's national title contest, Heisman winner Reggie Moore tackled just one yard shy of the goal line on game's final play | USC freshman linebacker that was recruited heavily by Geezy last season ends up a thorn in Tulane's side

Pasadena, CA -- Twelve seasons ago, the defending national champion USC Trojans, behind the playmaking ability of a recently crowned Heisman Trophy winner by the first name of Reggie, fell to a Heisman runner-up QB Vince Young and the Texas Longhorns in Pasadena in the 2005 BCS Championship Game, failing in their attempt to become the first ever back-to-back BCS title winner. In 2017, the tables were turned. This time, it was defending national champion Tulane, behind the playmaking ability of their recently crowned Heisman winner with the first name Reggie, attempting to win their second straight national title in Pasadena against USC and their Heisman Trophy runner-up quarterback, Danny Nolan. Unfortunately for the Green Wave, their fate ended up identical to RB Reggie Bush and the 2005 Trojans', as they fell to USC 20-13 Sunday night in the 2017 BCS National Championship Game at Rose Bowl Stadium.

The Green Wave, who won last year's BCS National Championship Game in a 29-26 thriller over then-defending champion Penn State, struggled to move the ball offensively after losing starting QB Jamie Manning (87 overall) on their very first offensive play of the game. Manning had completed a screen pass for a 9-yard gain to RB Reggie Moore to start the game, however Trojans DT Jared Sanders hit Manning as he threw, slammed him to the turf and fell on top of him, injuring the star quarterback's lower back. True freshman QB Antoine Atkinson (72 overall), the team's backup quarterback who has not had any meaningful snaps all season long save for some mop-up duty, would have to finish the game for Manning, significantly limiting Tulane's complex big-play offense.

""Jamie told me he felt something tear,"" said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"He came out of the game and tried to throw on the sideline before returning and you could see the pain was unbearable and he had no zip on his throws. He also had zero mobility so we had to turn to our young backup."

Atkinson would not make many critical errors however the effects of Manning's absence were easy to see as Tulane struggled to make any big plays or move the ball consistently as they had all year long. Sunday night's point total of 13 was their lowest since a 13-10 win over Alabama at the Louisiana Superdome in 2015. Atkinson, a 3-star ""athlete"" recruit last year, finished 12 of 21 for 155 yards with no touchdowns and one interception, though his one turnover did not lead to any USC points.

"Our playbook shrunk significantly once Jamie went down," said Geezy.

"The complexity of our scheme is at a near-NFL level and it takes an exceptional individual to grasp all the concepts and progressions and that's what makes Jamie great.

"That isn't a knock on Antoine. But I am sure even he would admit that he can't be expected to do all the things Jamie does as far as passing. Antoine does bring the element of being a great runner, but our offense isn't predicated on that."

Tulane would have to turn to its running game to try to establish some offense. RB Brett Curtis' 32-yard touchdown run in the second quarter made the score 10-0, however it would be the only touchdown the Wave's typically high-octane offense would muster.

Following a fourth and 1 conversion by Trojans RB Adam Jackson deep in Tulane territory, USC QB Danny Nolan's 22-yard touchdown pass to TE Patrick Wilson cut the Wave's lead to 10-7 with just 0:07 to go in the first half. Nolan finished 19 of 32 for 209 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.

The Trojans would take their first lead of the game in the third quarter when Nolan found WR Jeremy Williams for a 10-yard touchdown with 3:06 remaining in the period. The play was set up two snaps earlier via a fake punt pass completion from PK/P Kenny Pleasant to OLB Corey Downing for 38 yards all the way to the Green Wave 16-yard line. Downing, a true freshman, was a player heavily recruited by Tulane last season as a 4-star prospect who ultimately chose the Trojans over the Wave, who finished #2 on his list.

After taking the lead, USC then turned to its ground game. Jackson would carve up the Green Wave defense in the second half, getting several large chunks on his carries, finishing with 151 rushing yards on the night.

"All season long we've been in situations where we were able to take a big lead and basically eliminate our opponents' running game by making them have to pass. That wasn't the case today obviously and they wore down our defense in the second half," said Geezy.

Tulane, trailing 17-13, would attempt to put together a potential game winning drive with about three minutes remaining. However on a first down carry, Curtis fumbled the ball after being blasted by Trojans MLB Pierre Anderson at the line of scrimmage and Downing recovered, giving the USC possession of the football late.
Behind the running of Jackson, USC would drive all the way into Tulane territory, forcing the Wave to burn all three of their timeouts but nevertheless melting away plenty of clock. The Wave were able to stop USC's drive when reserve CB Yusef Osborne tackled Williams just inches short of the goal line on third and goal, forcing the Trojans to settle for a field goal which made the score 20-13 with only 0:25 remaining in the game.

The Green Wave, who lost to USC by an identical 20-13 margin the last time they faced in 1946, got one last opportunity to try to tie the game and send it into overtime. Starting with possession at their own 16-yard line following a short kickoff return, Atkinson hit fellow freshman Roger Battle for a 35-yard completion on second down which got the ball down to the Trojans 43-yard line with 0:09 remaining.

On the next play, Atkinson would hit Heisman Trophy winning RB Reggie Moore, lined up at wide receiver, on a spectacular 37-yard completion down to the 7-yard line with just 0:01 to go. Out of timeouts, the Green Wave would be forced to have to hurry to the line of scrimmage and call a play. With an empty backfield formation, they were able to get the snap off and Atkinson hit Moore, lined up out wide to the left, on a short drag route towards the middle. However the senior playmaker would get tackled by Trojans FS Logan Baker at the 1-yard line, ending the game.

The game's final play ended in an eerily similar fashion to the final play of the team's 38-37 double overtime loss to Arkansas in 2015, in which Moore was stuffed inches shy of the goal line on a two-point conversion attempt to end the contest. Moore finished Sunday's title game tilt with 8 receptions for 81 yards to go along with his 35 rushing yards and 86 kick return yards, however it was the game's final play that will forever be stuck on the minds of Tulane's faithful fan base, somewhat tainting an otherwise magnificent career by the school's first ever Heisman winner.
"I think Antoine threw the ball slightly behind Reggie, forcing him to stop to make the catch. Normally, that's a pass that we'd like to hit him in stride on so that he could easily turn upfield but that didn't happen," said Geezy.

"I really hate to see Reggie go out like this. We're very team-oriented and I hate to make this into an individual thing, but Reggie doesn't deserve for his career to end this way; What a shame."

The loss for Tulane (13-1) brings a disappointing end to their reign as national champions while also breaking the team's 22-game winning streak. They are the second consecutive national champion to lose in the next season's title game, following in the footsteps of Penn State last season.

"These opportunities are rare and should never be taken for granted. This is very disappointing," said Geezy.

"Do we think we can make it back? Of course. But we know that is not guaranteed and we're going to have a lot of work ahead of us to try to get redemption next season. Only one team (Florida State) has ever played in three consecutive BCS National Championship Games, but we're definitely going to put every effort into trying to become the second."
