Has anyone found a fix or band aid for the defenders leaving who there covering
This is my main gripe with the game. I know there's other areas of concern, but this kills the game for me. There's always players springing open who have no point in being open. It happens all the time, I replay it and see either my coy defender or the cpu defenders just standing here laying way off who there supposed to cover. It's a game killer. I've played this series since the dream cast days religiously. This years game is the biggest tease ever. Great graphics and presentation, even some great gameplay aspects, but the defenders leaving Thier player for reason defies the point of playing defense. Major disappointment after 4 patches I've waited thinking it will be fixed. Does anyone know of a fix for this. I play offline franchise.Tags: None -
Re: Has anyone found a fix or band aid for the defenders leaving who there covering
if i understand correctly, u meant shooters were wide open when their man sag off to help on a pick & roll play. is that correct?
no official solution. what i do is play off-ball so i can look out for such instances. the camera angle allows me to see the entire court clearly. -

Simple basketball defense logic you can't expect everything to be done by ai:
What i do playing on-ball
- Help the helper; if you see that the opponent always tries to find the open guy make your own ball defender on pick and roll go to defend the helping player. What i mean is go defend your helpers assignment.
- Or just make sure for whom you don't want help to come from such as defenders of Korver or Klay Thompson then assign your defensive ofball setting for those guys as deny and make sure you've matched them up with an above average iq guy so that they stick to your assignment.

Also one more thing if you try your best to defend the pick as go over and stop the dribbler on top then you'll mostly don't see any help that will come.

Re: Has anyone found a fix or band aid for the defenders leaving who there covering
The individual defensive settings work pretty well for me, but one piece of advice I would give is to give space while you're defending on ball and make sure you're not constantly crowding.
What happens, is that the help is ridiculously sensitive, if it even gets an inkling that someone is free they will rotate and throw everything else out of whack. This is especially a killer at the top of the key.
I noticed once I started defending like this, the less I started seeing this stuff...
What kill's me is that the weak side bigs don't always have this same sense of urgency, lolComment

Well, I had the same issue decided 2k16 wasn't for me. Also been playing since dreamcast also. Too much hand holding this year on defense to the point I was playing more off ball than I ever have. Which felt as if I am fighting with my own teammates. This is my main gripe with the game. I know there's other areas of concern, but this kills the game for me. But the bigger issue for me being offline is when I am on offense and the cpu defense "gives" me points due to gawd awful help/transition defense. No setting/sliders i have test it can overcome that issue.
All I can tell you is just lower your expectations and adapt or trade it in. I did the latter. It was hard but like I say Beyonce wasn't putting out so she ain't doing me no good [emoji6]

Re: Has anyone found a fix or band aid for the defenders leaving who there covering
I hate it, here's a clip from yesterday. This has got to be the lowest scoring game I've ever played. It's as if the game was trying so hard to help him catch up, but he just couldn't. I was having a very difficult time getting any momentum because of that. Look at the three stooges just standing there holding hands at 14 seconds while there's a player wide open on the side. I was getting frustrated, didn't have many options so I had to try to attempt an intentional foul on rondo and switched to someone in attempt to defend the open guy.

I know butler was supposed to guard the open guy, I tried switching to him twice but gasol was highlighted both times, I know I can icon switch but I was trying to actively on-ball defend the guy while I expeditiously switching to butler.Last edited by Sleepy59; 01-04-2016, 11:27 AM.Comment

Here's an example I posted in another thread- Everything is auto here- you can also see some of the overeager help too.

Could've done without Ellis reacting to Love, but if the CPU always got back to their man as quick as Ellis did it wouldn't be as big of an issue.Comment

Defensive setting, POE, and help defensive have a lot to do with why this happens, if you don't make manual defensive adjustment and leave everything on Auto you will get burned.PSN=Coolcas7Comment

Re: Has anyone found a fix or band aid for the defenders leaving who there covering
Thanks for the info. This is what I thought. It's not only the computer not defending, but it's when I'm on offense, I'm constantly seeing guys wide open. I play on hof. It's so tough to trade this game in. It's so good in areas, but horrid in others. Weird thing is I played my team domination and didn't see these issues nearly at all. Game drives me nuts.Well, I had the same issue decided 2k16 wasn't for me. Also been playing since dreamcast also. This is a solid example of what can go wrong with everything on auto and just what is not working correctly in general...monta had no reason to help on mozgov's roll as it was covered well initially. Here's an example I posted in another thread- Everything is auto here- you can also see some of the overeager help too.

As far as individual defensive settings go, there does seem to be less of this if you set it to OFF BALL: DENY or TIGHT on shooters you don't want to leave. But it is still imperfect.
The best success that I have had with pick and roll defense in general is to change the ON BALL SCREEN and HEDGE settings. I usually set it to GO UNDER and NO HEDGE for both regular on ball screen and center.
This helps as well because the CPU player is not rotating because he wants to be out of position on the shooter, he is rotating because he perceives a greater threat at the rim. When it is set to no hedge, the roll man doesn't get as open because his defender will stay closer to him instead of committing to the ball handler so the helpside is less likely to want to rotate as well.
Yes it is still not going to work all that well many times and they will still unnecessarily rotate, but these settings can help decrease how often you see it.
Settings:
GO UNDER - NO HEDGE ON BALL SCREEN
DENY ON SHOOTERS (TIGHT isn't as effective but it is an option as well if you don't want to get backdoored on non-pick and roll plays)
Control:
-manually corrall pick and roll handler
-keep an eye on your lowest defender (closest to the baseline) on the weakside to see if he is overhelping or sometimes he might need to help on the roll man...switch over to him and adjust his positioning accordingly
-switch back to on-ball defender and battle out the midrange isolation 5-6 change of directions that we all know too well and contest the shot with the right stick.
Another contributing factor is the under-the-hood ACE system which has certain teams have certain pick and roll defensive schemes. Many NBA teams want to overload the strong side of the floor, so that rotation may be hard-coded as being automatic for these teams so that may explain why it is not as often in MyTeam Domination. I'm not completely sure on this but it is a possibility.Last edited by jattnanga; 01-04-2016, 04:16 PM."A basket make one guy happy...assist, two guys happy."

Re: Has anyone found a fix or band aid for the defenders leaving who there covering
This is such a great piece of advice. I went and just played a game against the Pacers doing this, and I maybe had 3 or 4 of those wide open plays in the game. Now George, Ellis, et al. were getting more middies and treys off the pull up, and made some of course, but those shots aren't as money as the catch and shoot corner 3.The individual defensive settings work pretty well for me, but one piece of advice I would give is to give space while you're defending on ball and make sure you're not constantly crowding.

Of course the User gets so many of those open looks because basically every CPU guard wants to be in the ballhandler's kitchen all the time. I think that I'm going to change all the CPU defensive settings to see if I can make them play more realistically on D. They are playing great on offense right now, lots of versatility in their sets.Jordan Mychal Lemos
