And cant imagine ovechkin playing during high scoring nhl days where goalie sv% around .900 was considered good.

5th on that list, and probably might pass Hull if Ovechkin played in diff era.

He really should get more credit than he does. He gets hyped up alot, but would be much bigger if he was on a bigger market team and/or was North American born.

That was weird. They basically claimed the puck went through the cross bar before ricocheting off the back cross bar. Literally the only way that wasn't a goal was if the puck physically went through the cross bar lol

Ovechkin is a monster. To be able to score goals at the rate he has in this hockey era is incredible. For whatever reason he reminds me of Peyton Manning in that he put up great numbers but didn't get the recognition as truly great until he won the Super Bowl. Maybe Ovi will get his credit when/if he hoists a Cup.

              NHL 2015/16 Regular Season

It's damn near a miracle the goals Ovechkin has put up in this era over his career. Say what you will about his game being one-sided (and he's changed that narrative the last few years), but no one has even come close to being able to do what he's done. He's a special player.

A modern day treasure of the NHL. And what's crazy is, I'd still take Crosby over him! Here we are 10-11 years later, and they're still joined at the hip.

But hats off to Ovie. One of the most impressive accomplishments I've seen in the league in the last 20 years. I love that the whole team spilled on to the ice after he netted #500. That's love and respect for a great right there.

I will be perfectly happy to see him raise the Cup one day.

Look at all those 80's superstars!
Once again, it's proven that hockey in the 1980's was superior to all other era's.

Which is why nhl needs to improve goal scoring badly. Draw back up interest in the league featuring high scoring games and guys posting big numbers.

I find it hilarious that with today's technology they cant make goalie equipment for aero dynamic. Goalies still safe and more room to shoot.

I'm sure they can, just nobody ever thinks to do it. If NHL goes to whoever makes the equipment and tells them to come up with a smaller/lighter but just as strong equipment for goalies, they'll be able to do it. Until then, what's the point of creating something there's no guarantee it'll be used?

It's more than that. I have a friend who works for Brian's and he said if they (or any other goalie manufacturer) came out with slim equipment on their own, every goalie on the planet would boycott their brand.
"Hey goalies! Guess what? You don't need that oversized bulky equipment afterall! You can be just as safe with our stuff AND your GAA will skyrocket while your SV% will plummet!".

He also told me that the technology has been there for more than a decade. Every goalie could look like Ken Dryden and still have supreme protection.
The NHLPA has been fighting this for years because nothing says Cha-CHING $$$ like a 1.80 GAA and .980 SV%.

What boggles my mind is that the goalies only make up less than 10% of the NHLPA and yet they dictate how the other 90% stats will be reflected.
I'm sure the top scorers in the league (you know, the guys that actually drive the entertainment value of the sport and bring in fans) would love to be scoring 50+ goals and 120+ points a year.

I believe it was slickdtc that said the goalies have had more than 20 years to shine in the sun, it's time to give the game back to the scorers.

I'm not going to hold my breath as the NHL has proven to be a colossal poop-show for more than 20 years now when it comes to fixing the game, particularly the goalie equipment.
It's doubtful they get it right this time. But I can hope and pray.

Incredible amount of credit goes to the Coyotes for not being a loser franchise losing on purpose this year. They did last year and could have easily done so this year given the "prize" but they're not. Good for them.

I was stunned to see them in the top 3 of the Pacific after last year. They've had some good years (playoff berths) over the last 5 seasons or so, so I shouldn't have been so surprised. They've got some exciting young talent. Makes it all the more frustrating that they aren't getting the support the team has earned.

Money, great call on the 10% setting the bar for the other 90%. Hmm... sounds like another issue where the extreme minority write the rules for the majority...
