The 2015 Sports Game of the Year

So we come now to the end of award season, and of course that means it's time to crown 2015's Sports Game of the Year. I've slapped together a bunch of words and Chris has said a lot in his videos these past two weeks, but it needs to be said again that 2015 was a really good year for sports video games. It's really hard to think of any games that truly took a step back, and more importantly, it's really hard to think of any games that didn't set themselves up to be even better moving forward. With that in mind, it's time to stop posturing and get to talking about the Sports Game of the Year.

Why do I need authentication when pressing the link? I just want to view the article. Also, it rejects my password even though I know it's right

I cant lie. I hate this game sometimes and sometimes it is very enjoyable. I have around 16 games not including the downloaded games. I even have Witcher 3 which I only played for 20 minutes but I ONLY PLAY 2K! What is wrong with me.
Playing NBA 2K feels like a job that pays minimum wage and then cuts your pay when you get your Bill's right to make it even harder to succeed. I do not like this game but it's the only one in town.

At cheese, I'm trash. At basketball, I'm great!

Re: The 2015 Sports Game of the Year

I am going to yet again throw in some support for Madden 16. The game has not left my PS4 since release and I would have had it this way for 2015 among Sports titles:

                1) MLB The Show 15 - The best all around package they have given us in the series history. Between the best gameplay it has ever had on the field, to DD and a functional online, to the success of Y2Y saves working to about as close to perfection you could hope for...The Show is the king for me.

                2) Madden 16 - It is IMO the very best Madden in the series storied history. Gameplay has never been this good, Connected Franchise is very functional for hardcore players who want to employ 32 team control and run a robust, immersive franchise experience. Online is always pretty on point. Draft Champions is a very cool mode and one I have played as well. The post launch support was outstanding. 4 big patches and the game played better and better with each patch released. The Dev team was very interactive and listened to a lot of good bug and gameplay feedback. They really delivered the best NFL game to come down the pike in over a decade.

                3) NBA 2K16 - Deep. The game has the deepest franchise mode no question. Also the most user friendly. I love the customization you have at your finger tips. It is a high learning curve though, and the control scheme changes I was not thrilled about. It does play a very solid game of basketball but after a lot of time with it, I actually feel 2K15 plays a little better for my taste on the court. But off the court the MyLeague and MyGM modes are amazing, the presentation is second to none and overall the game is great.

                4) NHL 16 - This is my first NHL title since NHL 13. And I love it. After several tuners they have finally got the game playing a good, strategic and sometimes sloppy game of hockey (sloppy is good in hockey). I find the fun factor of this game to be a 9/10 for me. I love playing video game hockey and I am blissfully ignorant when it comes to the small details of the game as I am a newer hockey fan. So that helps me look past the flaws the hard core OS'ers point out. BeAGm mode is a load of fun for me and I am enjoying this game a ton.

Overall I felt 2015 was the very best year for sports games I have had since 2004. When I had MVP Baseball 2005, Madden 2005, NFL2K5 and NBA Live 2005.

I don't despise the game. I'm just not going to bow down to the developers or anyone else who thinks the gameplay is realistic. There are far too many issues with the gameplay that make it completely unrealistic (no doubles down line, screwy animations causing fly balls to be completely missed, passed balls hitting catcher in the head and bouncing away, etc.) that need immediate rectification. Putting pressure on the developers to improve the game by showing instances of poor coding only allows the developers to fix the problems. Telling them the game is perfect as is makes them rest on their laurels and I'm sorry, but the game isn't good enough as is to allow them to do that.

There's no denying that the game was flawed, but the gameplay was in fact more varied and realistic than last year's in my opinion. Not ever being able to be truly successful in the Show this year without nerfing the sliders was tough, but it made the game more challenging and fun. The fact that the Dev's were not aggressive enough to take risks involving gameplay is why it falls short to what should have (Or if it wasn't, I'm not sure how) been a unanimous decision for game of the year in 2K16. 2K really stepped it up this year, even if it's only problem is the fact that you can't play with default sliders without the game feeling broken. However with that said, the wonderful people at OS make it possible to play a realistic game with some amazing slider sets.
