I agree. But I think the thing is we don't know what EA knows. They know what percentage of NCAA Football buyers downloaded and shared rosters. That's with them aiding us some by having the rosters accurate for the most part. Heck, I used to edit (name) my Bulldogs and roll with generated names until a named roster became available. Maybe they don't see sales and stuff being as high should the rosters not be that way and we're not able to share or edit them. Sure, I'd buy and probably most of OS and hardcore College Football fans. But would the sales reach where they were previously? I'm not sure, honestly. And this is an investment at the end of the day. From what I understand, developing a video-game is an expensive endeavor. I could live with what 2K did with the college teams in 2K (no editing, generic, but still realistic) but I don't think it would catch on the way we think it would. Here's hoping.

NCAA 14 still has roster share, so I don't think there would be any problem with making a new game with randomized rosters and roster share. The demand is higher than ever for this series since of next gen consolesComment

Re: NCAA Punts on Athlete Likeness Monetization, College Games Still Not Viable
All of this is a result of selfishness. Personally, I think the damned athletes get paid enough with 100K+ scholarships. Thanks to them, there are no college video games. What's so sad is most of them played the damned things. I hope they never pay them a red cent.Comment

I still don't understand how they can't just randomize the player info and therefore not really be using player likenesses at all. If people are willing to go in and do all the editing, they can have an accurate roster.
I'm sure they would have to do something to prohibit file sharing, but surely that isn't too difficult either.Comment

At this point I'm holding on to the faint hope NCAA 14 comes to XB1 BC but I don't even see that happening...Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

This is truly sad. I nearly cried after reading their verdict. This is such a selfish case of wanting recompense. The entire case makes very little sense to cause all of this. As if scholarships aren't enough for some of these people. And as far as the NCAA games' case is, no matter how much information is used, it is all general information, minus their names. The NCAA has at least some right to use a student-athlete's likeness as they are officially under the NCAA licensing, no matter how you put it.
This is a sad day for sports games, maybe even games in general.Comment

If a company used my likeness for a video game (or anything, really) without my permission, I'd be trying to get my monetary value out of it. Don't understand how anyone can feel differently.Comment

As far as I am concerned, make the games completely generic and customizable. I don't care if they are in it and I am a huge college football fan.... But they can just not be in there. Fine with me. I can create 11 versions of myself and name the team My Team... Any royalties will go to me.

Yep ExtremeGamer said when the first 100 games announced were announced that he talked with someone in EA and they the game is not going to be made BC EVER.Comment

Exactly. I'd love to see another ncaa game, but the athletes aren't wrong here. Idk why so many people act like O'Bannon is the devil.

Boggles my mind. If my work tried to sell stuff using my face, you better believe I'd be asking for more compensation than what I'm currently getting. Consumers vilify O'Bannon out of their own selfishness of wanting the game.Comment

Re: NCAA Punts on Athlete Likeness Monetization, College Games Still Not Viable
Oh please. How about this pay them what their royalty is worth and take away all of the other benefits. 2 to at most 5 players would actually make the amount their free tuition, room, board, books, dining halls, etc. are worth. I don't know if you are aware but college is damned expensive for the average Joe.

Why can't EA just generate completely random and fictional rosters? This is one the text sim developers do, every time you load up you have a different roster. You still have the freedom to create something resembling real life but they in no way start you there.
