    NHL Legacy Patch 1.01 - Discussion (2016)

So, downloaded the patch and installed it. Love to hear what everyone thinks about the game after the patch.

    Here are my thoughts;

As some of you know I'm the creator of EAKHL, so I play a ton and edit hundreds of custom players and teams etc. So I may see things a little differently then your typical person. IE: I use custom sliders for maximum difficulty.

Anyway, now that I installed the patch I've noted that the penalties are almost none existent. Before the patch it was just right IMO.

After the patch, AI can't seem to score. I had to move several sliders up just to allow some of the AI's shots to go in. Better before the patch.

Defence, AI seems more aggressive now. They will lift sticks more, check more and move in to cut of cycling in corners now and behind the boards (that's cool).

Seems more scrambly after the patch. Everyone seems a little better at stopping cheap shots and slot shots, but everyone is crashing into each other way more then before the patch.

Game seems to play much better on International Ice, then NHL Ice.

    thoughts folks?

Really notice the AI D. Quite more aggressive. Glad you said it, thought I had forgot how to score!

Has anyone figured out yet which lines the game uses for 3-on-3 overtime? Since there is no option for 3-on-3 lines.
Is it the 4-on-4 lines excluding a forward? Or a defenseman (which one)? Or does it use the 3PK lines?

It seems the D is picked from the even strength pairings and the forwards are a random player from whichever even strength line you choose.

Yep it's one step forward one step back as usual. Should be two forwards and one defenseman

Previously the last roster update has been released a few days after the end of regular season. I don't see why it wouldn't be the case this season as well.

In a perfect world they would continue updating it in the future as well, since this is the last release for old gen. But I guess that will never happen.

So basically it's $20 for a half a season of roster updates.. That I could handle, plus if it has the 3v3 OT rule update, and other nice tweaks that I could handle as well.. I was just under the impression of NHL legacy = NHL 15, and the roster updates would end sooner than April.

The rosters I have now, we're from NHL View editor... Which I can't use with a Mac apparently.. So doing some roster changes are hard, plus it won't let me create players for rosters. Some things were hidden and locked.

                  Any thoughts?

For 20 bucks, definitely go for it! I think the gameplay is much better than in 15, and I'm not the only one. Surprisingly, you can find A LOT of posts at official EA forum praising the gameplay of Legacy (which is huge, since normally the people there just whine and complain). People say that if Legacy had the current gen graphics it would be the best game ever. Some people have even sold their 16 to go back to Legacy.

3-on-3 OT has been added via patch, but I haven't reached the OT in my games yet so can't comment on that. Graphically it's the exact same game as 14 and 15 though. Some say that it has the same authentic goal songs as 16, but I'm using Cycloniac's custom tunes, so I can't say anything about that either.

Which version of NHL View are you using? The newest version (released on Dec. 26th) has the feature of creating a player. It has some small bugs, and there's still some features missing, but all the vital things are included. Not sure about Mac support though.

I haven't used the editor... I tried the other day, and my Mac yells at me, because it's a Windows program. Couldn't find a download for Mac. For $20, I'm thinking towards it strongly before the sale runs out... And as for the music, I have added my own songs to make it sound more like a real game, not just goal songs, though not having to input it all would be nice

                      Thanks for the input

I licked it up during EA's sale and I don't regret it. It is a very graphically polished game and he gameplay is different. I haven't had the chance to really dive into it but, so far so good with th same sliders I used for 15. I still play both as the rosters created by GOATROSTERS for 15 are wonderful. I hope one day we can get Legacy updated to be fully accurate. At this point, I don't regret it and 60+% off is not a bad deal.

On the NHLViewNG, I have a Mac and use parallels desktop. Some players have been hidden and I have seen what we can alter and have had no crashing of Legacy with the changes.

Re: NHL Legacy Patch 1.01 - Discussion (2016)

It's funny, I popped in NHL Legacy yesterday where I had left a season that I'd just started, all set up for the year, because I had gone to NHL16 on my new PS4. After having played 16 on the PS4 for three months, it was really eye opening playing Legacy again.
It's amazing how little the intro videos (which I skip 99% of the time now, cut scenes, etc matter when you play a game that plays as well as Legacy does. It bears mentioning though, that I never play online so wanting to play where there are more people online isn't a factor for me. In any event, it's not like you're stuck with horrendous graphics on the PS3. The game does look good. I couldn't care less that you can count the threads in the fibers of the jerseys. What difference does it make? Half the players on PS4 still look like crap, there are no coaches at all, the fans don't look THAT much better and honestly, I can't be bothered to look at the stands when I'm trying to win a game. But I DO care about things like in-game stats being correct, and gameplay that is well tuned. I don't think I'll stop playing on NHL16 but it's been three months and I don't have varied enough scores. I'm GOING to give up three or four goals no matter what and I'm going to score 4 or more. It's crazy. It has also been harder on this game to set good sliders than in any other sports game I've ever played outside of MLB 2K. Add that to no All-Star game or tournament mode in 16 and you start questioning what's tangibly better about 16, certainly not the gameplay.
I'm not quitting 16 on PS4... yet. But knowing the proper OT has been added makes it really tempting to just pick up my other season where I left it, complete with all my stadium music set up already, and sell 16 while it's still worth something.
