            January 14th, 2016
            Brad Frederickson, Titans Insider

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Ten days after the Titans relieved Ruston Webster of his duties as general manager, team ownership has announced an agreement with Tampa Bay director of player personnel Jon Robinson. Only thirty-seven, Robinson already brings a wealth of experience, having begun his administrative career as an advance scout for New England from 2002 through 2008.

In 2009, he was promoted to director of college scouting with the Patriots, which he held through the 2013 season before being hired away by Tampa Bay GM Jason Licht in 2013. After just two years as Licht's right-hand man, Robinson has been tabbed to oversee the fortunes of his own franchise.

His first task figures to be to find a head coach. Mike Mularkey is the current interim coach and figures to be the first interview, but other names will surely filter through as the days pass.

"I can't begin to say what a thrill this is," he said in his introductory press conference. "I was born here in Tennessee, and to be able to come back and be part of this organization is a huge, huge deal. I know my wife and family are just beyond happy about it. I'm looking forward to getting on the road to finding a coach and getting the process started."

Despite a 3-13 record in 2015, he's stepping into a pretty good situation. He has a potential cornerstone player in young quarterback Marcus Mariota, $40 million in cap room, and the top pick in the upcoming draft.

He'll also have some questions to answer besides finding a head coach, however. There are potential veteran salary cap casualties that could happen in safety Michael Griffin and tackle Jamel Meredith, and young players up for free agency, like promising linebacker Zach Brown. Griffin is scheduled to make nearly $9M total in 2016; and while he's been one of the steadiest players in the franchise's recent history, his range in pass coverage has fallen incrementally over the last couple of seasons.

Robinson doesn't have a timetable to find a head coach; only saying that the process is ongoing, and that there are still dominoes that could fall. There is a possibility that Lovie Smith could end up on the Tennessee sideline, although it's not certain if Robinson was on board with the firing of Smith by Licht.

"Lovie is a great person and an even better coach," Robinson said when asked about Smith. "That's all that I can really say about that."

Robinson, Titans Tab Pagano For Head Coaching Post

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Just four days after taking the general manager job, Jon Robinson already has his man for the head coaching position, hiring former Colts coach Chuck Pagano to fill the role left by interim coach Mike Mularkey. Pagano was not renewed by the Colts following an 8-8 campaign, and with three ten-plus win seasons prior to that. Indianapolis is rumored to be after former Ravens sideline boss John Harbaugh.

Robinson interviewed Pagano, Mularkey, and one other candidate that was never disclosed; although many in the industry think that Lovie Smith was the top choice and turned down the job. Smith accepted the head coaching position with the Ravens just yesterday.

"Chuck is a fighter, a guy you want on your side," said Robinson as he introduced his first head coaching hire. "His battle with disease has been well-documented, but he's a guy that's a fantastic football coach that demands the most out of his players. We're fortunate that we can get a coach of this caliber this late in the off-season."

Citing a young roster that includes quarterback Marcus Mariota, Pagano noted in his introductory press conference that it was a big draw for him to choose the Titans. He had also interviewed for the openings in Baltimore and New York, which went to Smith and Ben McAdoo, respectively.

"Marcus reminds me so much of Andrew (Luck), with his skillset, leadership, and just a cool, calmness about him," he said. "The only things that I would say that Andrew has for sure over Marcus is arm strength and experience, and the former is comparable. Once he gets some more experience and reps at the speed of the NFL game, he'll be better than he already is."

Asked if he had been presented with an opportunity to look over the roster yet, Pagano said that he's had a good seat to watch the Titans several times a year for the past four years.

"I've watched them play a lot over the past four seasons. When I think of the Titans, I think of hard-nosed defense and an offense that takes care of the ball," he said. "It represents the kind of community that they play in, being in the Nashville area. It's a blue-collar city that appreciates that style. I don't want to get away from that, but there are some things that we'll do a little bit differently as the personnel allows. We're going into this season with a lot of flexibility in the roster and the top pick in the draft, so I'm excited to get this thing going."

Pagano Hires Grimm; Announces 2016 Staff

Earlier this morning, new head coach Chuck Pagano released his full coaching staff for the 2016 season. The announcement of longtime NFL assistant Russ Grimm as the new offensive line coach yesterday finalized the staff. Grimm is one of the most revered position coaches in recent NFL history; having played on the famous "Hogs" offensive line group back in the late 1980's and early 1990's in Washington, of which Grimm was considered the best overall lineman of the group. He's had coaching stops with the Redskins, Pittsburgh, Arizona, and now with the Titans in his great career.

"I've had the pleasure of knowing Russ for a long time, but I've never actually coached with him," said Pagano at yesterday's announcement. "I always thought that if I ever had a chance to have him on my staff someday, I would hire him in a heartbeat."

The full staff can be seen below:

                    Head Coach - Chuck Pagano

While the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers prepare for the 50th Super Bowl in Santa Clara, Calif., scheduled for tomorrow at 6:30 Eastern, the Titans are busy at work preparing for free agency and the upcoming Draft in May. New head coach Chuck Pagano and new GM Jon Robinson were on hand at the Senior Bowl last weekend, and will be on hand at the NFL Combine in Indianpolis, which begins on February 23rd at LucasOil Stadium.

NFL teams may begin the process of cutting players at any time, although many wait until after the conclusion of the Super Bowl to do so. It's been long considered that free safety Michael Griffin will be amongst the first to be released to free up cap room, as the thirty-one year-old safety is coming off arguably his worst season with regards to pass coverage as a pro.

However, that's only one situation that the Titans' brass must figure out. Here are three other scenarios that the team must address this offseason:

                      1. The Titans' ownership needs to get on the same page.
It's no secret that the Titans' ownership hierarchy is a mess, and the other NFL owners don't really care for how the total interest is divided up. As the majority owner, Amy Adams-Strunk has taken over as the face of the group; but has little experience in player personnel matters. Her brother Kenneth is the closest person they have to that, but he's one of the minority stakeholders and has not been around Nashville much in recent years. The Adams family has stated they want to keep the team in Nashville, but tepid fan support and a poor fan experience may not allow them to do that, especially if they begin to lose money. Fixing the parking situation and making the fan experience a priority would go a long way, even if the team doesn't win a bunch of games in 2016.

                      2. Overhaul the offensive line.
Aside from Taylor Lewan, the Titans' front five was a mess, as they allowed rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota to be sacked thirty-eight times, and allowed fifty-three sacks in all amongst three quarterbacks that took snaps in 2015. Chance Warmack is entering his fourth season, and has yet to live up to the lofty billing from his selection at number ten overall in the 2013 draft out of Alabama. Right tackle was a turnstile, as Jamel Meredith, Joe Looney, and Jeremiah Poutasi all started at least two games, and even guard Byron Bell played snaps at right tackle. Brian Schwenke showed some promise, but likely needs another year to determine if he's a quality NFL starter at center. Even if the team decides to address the offensive line in free agency, they should still draft at least one young lineman in May, if not two.

                      3. Re-sign Zach Brown.
Playing in a reserve role between the inside and outside linebacker spots, he was second amongst the team's linebackers in tackles with eighty-six, and at only twenty-five. There's plenty of reason to believe he's yet to hit his prime, and he's been one of their most consistent defenders in both performance and health.
