Re: EA Sports UFC 2 Beta Available, Post Your Impressions Here

I was just going to ask if they made submissions harder this year, but then i was able to sub Demina Maia with Gunnar Nelson during practice on skilled free sparring, so i don't know anymore.

My ground game is starting to come along really well, since all i've been able to do is practice against the CPU. Side control might be overpowered, i use side control a lot and throw elbows from there. I think it might be the easiest position to deny a transition. I've finished the computer about 6 times from side control today already, mostly using Johny Hendricks vs CPU Robbie Lawler.

I still think some of the denial windows are a little too quick, and near impossible to stop, but i think i'll be fine regardless with my ground game, just like in UFC 1.

But my stand up, like UFC 1, is still pretty sub par. I couldn't hang with CPU Lawler in stand up at all with Johnny Hendricks, parried just about everything i threw. It's a lot easier against CPU Maia, using Gunnar Nelson. And when i play online, i can't handle those who spam jabs and mix up body and head shots. Even leg kicks, i got TKO'd once online by leg kicks in the first round, after the guy threw like 135 strikes in the first 4 minutes of the fight, probably at least 85 of them being leg kicks.

Anyone have any tips on stand up? Especially against people spamming jabs/straights?

I've noticed a couple things against the CPU.

      1) They can go on runs where they parry 6 to 8 strikes in a row no matter if u mix it up or not.

      2) How do you tell which side to defend when they have your back in the sitting position? I can deny it staring at the icon but can't figure out from the hand fighting which direction they are going without the icons off. They are simply fighting with your hands so the "tell" I can't figure out.

I really enjoy the game. The presentation is great, the graphics are solid, and the gameplay is fun. I really enjoy the new ground game controls. It took some time to get used to but I think it's a step in the right direction.

My only complaint is the lack of options in CAF, especially the hair options. The male options are limited, but fair, but the female fighter options are terrible. It's almost like they just took hairstyles from female fighters in the game and used those for CAF. It was weird going into any fights with my female fighter and at least 50% of my opponents had that same Miesha Tate hairstyle. The facial hair options for male fighters is severely limited to. I have a beard similar to Chuck Norris, maybe an inch thick. The closest thing they have to that is that big huge grizzly beard. I'm glad they finally implemented face morphing tools, but it kinda sucks there's no body morphing tools. Maybe I'm just spoiled from the CAW system in WWE games, but the CAF tool seems to be severely lacking for what I was hoping. Maybe it's limited because this is just a beta? I guess we'll see, but ultimately, I really enjoy the game from what I saw and can't wait for it to release. Hopefully they spend more time on CAF in future versions.

I can still load up the game and play against the AI in practice mode. However, whenever I quit the session an error occurs that exits the game and brings me back to the PS4's XMB.

EDIT: Never mind, works perfectly now.

I can't even do a simple head kick with the rear leg, how silly is that? The q. mark kick is a move that's not often done irl, but here it's so common to see because it's mapped to the basic strike (which is especially irritating to see when fighting the AI).

And the worst part is, it's also mapped to the modified strike (holding L1)! They should've just kept this only to the modified strike, and used the simple head kick with the basic strike. I don't understand why it's the same move with both.
Add the oblique kick to moves that shouldn't be mapped to basic strikes. I can't do a basic (rear foot) leg kick with Carlos Condit in this game, much less combos that incorporate it, because all he has is the oblique kick.

Condit irl throws some of the best striking combinations in mma, mixing in punches and elbows with head, body, and leg kicks, both using the front and rear foot.

This is by far the hardest position to learn the tells.

With it just being hand fighting, it's hard to tell what's going on.

It's possible though, just very tricky.

GameplayDevUFC, are you going to allow us to use offline mode until the game is released? *Fingers Crossed* Most of us didn't get a chance to play that much so i was hoping this is the case.

Several of us have mentioned it is still working just fine, so I'm guessing that will be the case.
