While I've pulled off many a comeback over the five and 1/4 seasons of this dynasty, I have a bad feeling that this ability to randomly pull, say, a 21-0 run out of my sleeve will fade away at some point. Hopefully it's not any time soon though!

Good question. In all honesty, I can't remember myself who I started at QB against IU. Once I dig out the lineup cards and box score, we'll discuss that.

Regardless of what happened against Ohio State or the upcoming IU game, Rivero definitely asserted himself as a contender for the starting job. Which isn't good, because, as the old mantra goes, you have no quarterback when you have multiple. Hopefully we can get some traction moving forward.

I was kind of indifferent until I realized we only trailed by a TD and the only times I lost it were Rivero's tying TD and the Bradford scoop n' score. Not really a roller coaster, but the early parts of the fourth quarter were sure exciting!

Honestly, I was actually ready to put some offensive subs in at various points early in the third quarter. Serves me right!

        Thanks for the comments everyone.

News and Notes: TDL, Parks featured in lineup against IU

Despite leaving last week's game against Ohio State hurt, sophomore Tanner Dean-Lowry has been named the starting QB headed into UConn's game against Indiana. While it was senior Jarrett Rivero who was the hero of last week's game, Rivero has been relegated to #2 on the depth chart, sliding last week's starter Isaac Jackson to #3. Diaco acknowledged that he wanted to give TDL one more shot and that "Rivero is the guy in case something goes wrong". Regardless, it appears as if we finally have sorted out the QB race, at least to some extent.

In addition, sophomore cornerback Kyler Parks will make his first career start against the Hoosiers on Saturday. Parks has, according to Diaco, temporarily bumped true freshman Shavlion Wade out of the lineup. Diaco stated he simply wanted to see if Parks would be a better fit on the outside or guarding slot receivers in his nickel or quarter packages. Parks will also continue to be used in various offensive roles as a fullback and slot receiver.

Haha. I don't know about seeing the future, but I've had my fair share of deja vu moments over the years.

That was unexpected, but I have had a solid track record with predictions in the past. Before the 2014 NFL season started, I actually went on camera and said the Seahawks would defeat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. I would've picked NE but I didn't want to be a jinx. Turned out just about right.

In any case, I'll have to keep tabs on this story, see if it plays out the same way as it did here.

Crazy comeback to put up 38 points in 13 minutes of game time, especially against a team as good as Ohio State in the Horseshoe.

Surprised to see you go back to TDL and not stick with the "hot hand" of Rivero, but as you said, he can come of the bench if necessary. I have a feeling your defense will be able to play a little better and not require a monster comeback this week against Indiana though.

Thanks beast. School's taken a number on me this year, but just like last year, when we head toward May/June I'm sure the updates will start to speed up when I'm around.

Getting a break from constant playing and updating has given me fresh life into the dynasty, especially since I'm not winning every game at this stage and I've built an exciting young group of prospects. I'm looking forward to a lot more seasons here!

Thanks for taking the time to read through most of this. I understand that it probably takes A LOT of time to do so, major props to you!

I still think TDL is the best all-around QB we have right now, but this is a big game for him. If he struggles again, I'm not sure he can start for us full-time, but if he does play well, I think he can take the reigns for good. Indiana is in that sweet spot of not great yet not bad, so this is a good measuring stick game for everyone.

Part of the reason for the QB controversy is me getting antsy and shuffling guys perhaps too early, so it's also important for me to build some confidence in this game too!

I also agree with your prediction that the defense will play better in this one. O'Neill isn't as good as Williams from last week, and Hicks I think is not as good as Steve Balchiar. Having IU missing a starting DE hurts as well. I think we can take care of business.

                    Thanks for checking in guys!

                      Hoosier Daddy?

TDL's stellar day guides UConn in IU rout

Rashad Harris caught both of Tanner Dean-Lowry's TD passes on the afternoon.

It has been a strange opening third of the season for the UConn Huskies. Dealing with coach suspension, a revolving door at QB and a few miraculous comebacks, consider us fortunate that we are now sitting at 3-1. Thus it is only fitting that UConn got exactly what they were looking for in a 35-17 road win over non-conference foe Indiana on Saturday. More importantly, sophomore QB Tanner Dean-Lowry likely separated himself from the snarling pack following a 291 yard, two-TD performance in which he kept his nose clean, completed 65% of his passes and played efficient football from beginning to end.

Courtesy of TDL and a stingy run defense that held young IU tailback Kaivonte O’Neill to just 39 yards, UConn was able to race out to a 21-3 lead deep into the second quarter and hold a 21-10 halftime lead. Despite not throwing another TD pass after the half, TDL was able to coast UConn home with the victory with little difficulty.

Assisting TDL in the early lead was junior wideout Rashad Harris, who caught both of the sophomore’s TD passes. The first was an eight yard slant to cap off a nine play drive in the first quarter, and the second a five yard curl following a pair of catches from tailback Luke Williamson.

IU was able to keep it close into the half thanks to the solid play of senior QB Wesley Hicks. The veteran matched TDL most of the day, throwing for a pair of TD’s and 290 yards as well. His leadership was also on full display, stringing together multiple drives of ten plays or more, including a 13 play, 79 yard drive culminating in a four yard TD to Rhett Harris right before the half.

The turning point of the game came after the half though, as IU strung together another long drive that saw Hicks and the Hoosiers get inside the UConn 15 yard line before kicker Chad Kennan pushed a chip shot 28 yard field goal that bounced off the right upright and kept the game at 21-10.

Taking advantage was the UConn offense, taking 15 plays and about five minutes to roll down the field before a three yard Carlton Parker TD run extended the lead to 28-10 late in the third, which they would push to 35-10 on a second Parker TD run, putting the game out of reach.

Hicks hit Harris for a meaningless 21 yard TD, but UConn recovered the onside and ran out the rest of the game clock to move their record to 3-1 ahead of Big 12 play, which starts next week with a game against Texas Tech in The Property.

After the game, Coach Diaco signified that TDL will again get the start next week, and that the keys were his as long as he doesn’t get injured or perform poorly moving forward, finally ending the agonizing five-week ordeal. The question remains, can he keep it up enough for us to contend in the Big 12? Come back next week and find out.

*NOTES:* TDL left the game briefly in the second quarter with an undisclosed upper-body injury. He returned to the game three plays later and had no issues the rest of the game.

Rhett Harris did his part, countering Rashad on the other side with two of his own TD catches.

Luckily for me, two of my classes will be either completely over or mostly over after the first week of May thanks to AP stuff....so that's a plus. With basketball season ending (likely) at the end of the week, I may have time for more updates! Still nice that I can find time to do this every now and then.

TDL had a good year last year (all in all), just was a little inconsistent and turnover prone at times. (Think he also missed some time in games with injury, I can't remember). When he isn't rattled, he's our best QB. The other thing is, he's only a true sophomore, still plenty of time for him to mature.
