Thanks cheese! Glad to see you are caught up again. Planning to finish up the current season before my break next week (I'm on bowl week in real-time, I'm going to ask for some help selecting the playoff bracket) and get caught up very soon....

Hehe. I can't say on how the game finishes (already played), but it's not a blowout. Or is it......?

TTU's D is a little better than Indiana's, we'll see how TDL does.

    * I fixed two more errors I caught...that's what I get for doing this at night.

TDL as a true sophomore should end up around the low 90s in overall, I don't know his other ratings but I would like to see him break some UCONN records

The UConn offense was super efficient, obviously led by the QB. Gotta love going 12/14 on third downs, definitely keeps the chains moving and allows you to maintain possession. Watson for FSU put up some monster numbers in their win - 13 catches for 333 yards!

Good luck heading into Big 12 play!

Here's to TDL keeping his groove into the next game. Nice to see my CAC doing well too, hopefully they don't struggle in the Big Ten like last year.

            CAC Sign-Ups - 2020 season

Friends, it is that time of 'chise season again. CAC time!!!!!

I am actually at the start of bowl season in-game and hope to do the offseason when I go on February vacation tomorrow (Friday). Afterwards, I’ll (likely) be forced to pack up the PS3 for a while. I'll catch up on here as time permits.

The Create-A-Coach fad which you see in dynasties such as mine, TheOtherPotterGuy’s, Cheese’s and KOZZ’s, originated right here (I think) early in this dynasty’s run. The 2020 season in 'chise will mark the fifth season of our create-a-coach side story featuring, you, me, the followers of this 'chise and our coaching alter egos. (Yay! Let’s celebrate!)

If you wish to be a little more interactive with me in this 'chise, fill out a coach submission form and I'll insert you into the game as a coordinator (I can’t stress that enough, I never give head coaching jobs off the bat). First jobs usually come at a mid-major-ish school, in the geographic area of your choice (if possible, in place of one of the fake coaches). With a little luck, skill and moxie, you can carve out your road to coaching glory with Coach Diaco and our rival schools. Who knows, maybe you can get to UConn someday.

To submit your form, PM this to me or post it right in here, either way works. At the moment there is no deadline for which to have submissions in. I’m in no time crunch because I won’t be starting the 2020 season until I’m all caught up here (and I anticipate that to be a while). I’ll let you guys know initially and remind you later on when I will close sign-ups.

REMEMBER: Folks already with a coach in the 'chise are NOT allowed to submit another at this time.

Completely optional, as always, and it doesn't require you to be active at all in this dynasty thread, the only thing you need to do is fill this out, make sure it gets in my hands and watch 2020 and beyond unfold. But it's a lot of fun, I do updates in with the Around the NCAA post and it's just a neat thing to follow along on the side. Everything is completely run by chance (I don’t play any CAC games), which makes it even more interesting to follow.

Thank you and hope you continue to enjoy the Create-A-Coach phenomenon!

I think that sounds about right. Not in front of the game so I can't give you ratings ATM, but I can later if you'd like. It will be tough to break career records (Dan Orlovsky started all four years I believe, TDL hasn't), but he can definitely get close. If he can hang onto the starting job next year, he could have a chance at season records.

I'd like to stress the if because I mentioned in the game preview that QB prospect T.J. Appleby is visiting this week and QB/ATH Alex Paige has us #1 as well (we'll look at them later in the recruiting watch portion of your program). Isaac Jackson returns next year as well, and we've already seen his clutch genes on display in his time here. If things go bad this year, there is a real possibility we have a true freshman under center next fall.

We had a number of long possessions against IU, the 12-14 on 3rd no doubt helped that. Hopefully TDL can stay healthy and efficient like that the rest of the way, I think we could go far.

For some reason, receiving numbers aren't typically that high (nor should they be, but I don't see a lot of receivers winning player of the week.) Whereas I see guys in your dynasty racking up 12 catches and 200+ yards weekly, perhaps it's a slider thing.

Yeah, as I said above, if he can stay healthy I think we can go far this season.

Rutgers is indeed off to a hot start, but the Big 10 is loaded this year. Penn State, Ohio State, Minnesota, Michigan State, Nebraska, bryan3169's Purdue team, not to mention Illinois, Wisconsin, and another CAC team in Maryland, which is always a tough out, all are standing in the way. I think you guys can finish strong and get to a solid bowl game, but it is going to be really tough.

              Slingin' in the Rain!

TDL, true frosh Wade shine as UConn survives OT shootout from Weasay, Red Raiders

Shavlion Wade's first career INT was a good one -- pinning it to Tech WR Nick Joplen.

True freshman corner Shavlion Wade was benched last week. After returning to the lineup? Shav had quite possibly the most important role in the now 4-1 Huskies’ win over a spirited Clint Weasay and Texas Tech squad. Wade recorded his first two career picks -- the first a ball that he pinned to the shoulder of Tech receiver Nick Joplen -- including the game-clincher in the back of the end zone in OT, to seal up the 42-35 win, which moves UConn to 1-0 in Big 12 play.

The rain soaked contest oddly enough was an old fashioned pass game shootout, something Tech loves to do. Unfortunately, that worked to their advantage most of the day as the senior QB Weasay had a career day, firing for 455 yards and 3 TD’s. However, if not for an equally stellar performance from UConn’s newly-anointed starting QB Tanner Dean-Lowry, the Huskies could have just as easily found themselves on the losing end. TDL passed an extremely efficient 28 of 36, with a career high 417 yards and 3 touchdown tosses to his credit.

What was even more impressive for the sophomore was his calmness under pressure, despite firing two INT’s. UConn never had a lead of more than eight, partially due to the play Weasay and slot wideout Johnny Hodges, who was the top receiver of the day with 11 grabs, 219 yards and a TD at the end of the third quarter that put Tech up 24-21. Hodges converted numerous long third downs and kept Tech on the move all game.

Erik Brown (left) and Joplen (right) had TD grabs for Texas Tech.

Additionally, UConn played from behind most of the third quarter after a 17 yard Weasay pass to Erik Brown and Hodges’ TD gave Tech the lead early into the fourth. Only a pair of successive TD’s, a 3 yard run from Carlton Parker and a 9 yard TD pass from TDL to Rodney Reid, put UConn up by a score of 35-27 with a little over two minutes to play.

Despite being down eight, Weasay led Tech right back into the game. Hitting Nick Joplen for successive gains of 20 and 36, then Courtney Hicks for 10, Trey Montoya capped the scoring drive with a 3 yard TD run. But needing a two to tie with under a minute left to go, the two-point conversion try was the obvious route. Sure enough, it was Hodges who found himself wide open to tie up the game, and 50 seconds later we were headed for overtime.

UConn got the ball first, and a Luke Williamson nine yard catch helped set the tone for the possession. A gain of four picked up the first down, but a sack by Yiliontie Willy pushed UConn back to the 21 yard line. Now in a passing situation, the hot hand of TDL found Rashad Harris open, and he walked into the end zone for the go-ahead TD grab.

Following no gain from Hicks on the first play of Tech’s possession and a Hodges drop, Weasay faced a 3rd and 10 from the 25. With a balls to the walls approach, Weasay fired to the end zone for Hodges, and the freshman Shav Wade picked it off to seal the 42-35 win.

Coach Bob Diaco said it was a good win for his crew, and that he "hopes the team doesn't get too hung up on this win." He beamed at the mention of TDL's performance, but stated "we need to stop the other team, too."

With that, our 4-1 UConn train goes rolling along. Undefeated Oklahoma State is waiting in Stillwater next week. We'll see you then.

I'd like to stay in the Northeast or Big 10 country. Also if possible, change tempo to aggressive.

That is a pretty incredible interception, nice you got pictures of it! Reminds me of the Owusu catch against UCLA this past season.

Like you said, aside from the INTs, a fantastic performance from Dean-Lowry. Surprised to see the running game not be very effective against Tech, but a win is a win.

Regarding some of the big days by QBs and WRs in my dynasty, yeah, I am guessing it is just changes made to coaches' run/pass sliders and also raising most QBs AWR/THA. Seems to be fairly rare for more than 1-2 guys to get 300+ passing YPG for the season with default settings/ratings, so those changes have increased offense to a more realistic level throughout the country for me.

                  Good luck against OK State!

                    UConn Recruiting Update

With six weeks in the books in the 2019 season, UConn has landed their first two commits of the 2020 recruiting cycle. Both of these two figure to be valuable pieces for the team before long.

The first commit is 3* QB T.J. Appleby out of Texas. The 6'6 gunslinger has a strong arm and can run a little. This helps Coach Diaco draw comparisons to Bryant Shirreffs, who quarterbacked the national title team in 2017. Yet at the same time, Appleby is very raw, and may require a redshirt year to fully harness is potential.

The second commit is 3* offensive tackle Joe Sykes Jr. The Illinois product turned down schools closer in proximity (Purdue, Notre Dame), in hopes that he can be a star in Storrs. With blind side protector Josh Parrish graduating in the spring, Sykes will come in (likely for spring ball) and compete with freshman Kevin Jones for the starting left tackle slot. Should Jones win the job, Sykes will likely move over to right tackle and wait until juniors Trent Ginn and Brantell Webb graduate after next season.

                    Good luck against OK State!
Sadly, though that pick had nothing to do with helmets, I think of David bleepin' Tyree.... oh well.

The run game has been off all year to this point, likely because Williamson is young and still learning, though I am confident he will be fine moving forward. He's a lot like some of the backs we've had in the past...Ron Johnson and Max DeLorenzo come to mind. Though this is the first time in the dynasty that I've had to exclusively rely on the passing game, and this is really odd to me.

I guess I should consider myself lucky that the passing game has popped up in the past two weeks. If the past has been any indication, we'll need it moving forward.

Thanks bud! You're right, the majority of the work done here was around this time last year. I expect to do a lot this week while on break, but hopefully you'll enjoy what has been done.

UConn starting TE Archie out five weeks

UConn starting tight end Royce Archie has been diagnosed with a torn pectoral that will keep him out for at least five weeks, according to the Hartford Courant. Archie first complained of pain during the Huskies' game against Texas Tech last week. He was able to finish the game without issue.

Sophomore Ryne Thomas will assume the starting position moving forward, with sophomore Ja'Montres Jones the top backup.

Think about it this way, though: 4 more wins to go....

That Purdue defense is looking good so far. Looking pretty good so far as a team they are slaughtering teams offensively.

Looks like I missed a couple of good games. I'm glad to see my BG offense finally booming as well. Unfortunately, I'm back only as a spectator. It's my busy time of year, and I've lost the Madden bug, so for now, I'm putting the Vikes on hold, especially while I train for baseball season.
