Played a round at Oakmont last night. Custom settings (based on Tour swing), Fast conditions, Sunday pins, green grid w/beads on, 3-5 MPH winds. Shot +4 with Jordan Spieth.

The greens are very fast and most putts have tremendous breaks to them. I won't go so far as to call them old-fashioned carnival pin placements, but putting at Oakmont is not for the faint of heart - and I suppose that's how it should be.

The look of the course is great. The moving traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike adds a layer of immersion not seen on many video game golf courses.

It's a great addition to the game, and provides a tough test.

Oakmont is historical and rated highly by most golf publications, but it's not that interesting to me for a video game. Sure, it has the church pew bunkers, but not much else going on. No water at all. I love courses with a lot of water.

The worst part of this course though is the sound. Sure, the course IS right next to the Pennsylvania turnpike, but it sounds like you're in the middle of it. IRL, that course does not have that much traffic noise, does it? Play that course with a headset on and you're really hear it (along with the constant hum of the overhead blimp).

I think EA should be able to tweak that though...

I've got to say, I was underwhelmed with Oakmont as an addition, just seemed like a boring, plain choice to me. Although, I understand the choice with the US Open being there this year. Just, I would prefer some more courses that are more exciting visually, like Pebble Beach, or Banff Springs. So, Oakmont underwhelmed me a bit...


Then, I played a couple rounds on it. What a nice challenge it was. Looks great, and plays great. I forgot those greens, those big, sometimes square shaped greens, that have some insanely crazy slopes to them. It was a nice, new, refreshing challenge. Putting is going to always be a great adventure here.


EA did a great job in creating the environment, and it's a worthy addition, that's for sure.

According to a statement from EA, the upcoming EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour game will not feature a major golf course.

Apparently, EA will not be including the Augusta National Golf Club, the Georgia course that is the home of the Masters Tournament, due to an expired license. Ea mentioned that it is still looking for a way to add the course into the game.


Our license with Augusta National has expired and it does not currently appear in EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. However, we will continue to examine opportunities to include this world-class course in the game.

Oakmont literally is in the middle of the turnpike.

You actually have to cross a bridge over the turnpike in between a couple holes.

I don't foresee any scenario where Augusta is added this year. It just wouldn't make economic sense for EA to pay the licensing fee for a game that already 1 year into its product life cycle.

The only way it would make sense is if the ANGC agreed to a multiple year agreement and would allow them to go back and add the game to the previous (current) release and not count that is a year on the new licensing agreement.

There would be no other economic advantage for EA Sports to sign a LA with ANGC this year if a game is not to be released until next season.

The addition of Oakmont got me to finally buy this game. My early impressions are that it is an underrated game. I live near Oakmont and am going to the U.S. Open so I was intrigued by the course being available. It's tough, though. And that's the way it should be.

I picked this back up and started playing it again recently. I am really enjoying my time with the game a lot.

I wish there was a Country Club feature that would allow setting up rounded and seasons with friends. I also miss the Play the Pros weekly tourneys. If they could add that, along with some score chasing stats to track with friends it would go a long ways in giving the game longer legs.

I'd actually be excited about buying a new version this year if they added more social features. But move to no longer releasing a new game every year means we are stuck with this for now.

At least the game play is really great.

Gameplay is awesome but features are greatly lacking. Underrated game no question. Just no thrills and reasons to keep playing. Career mode becomes boring very quickly.

Yeah, the post release support I was hoping for was not more courses. Those have been great, but I was hoping that if they were really going to take two to three years to make another game, they would be adding features to flesh out this one.

Honestly, though, if they could just increase the swing difficulty in the Online Tour tournaments, it would help a ton. I like comparing my scores to other in single try events, with the same conditions. But they could make it a lot harder to hit every fairway.
