What if the commentary had signature calls?

Without considering any of the changes that have been made for MLB '16, one of the things the current commentary lacks, is signature calls.

In real life, most play-by-play (PBP) commentators have a go-to call for high profile situations. Home run calls are the most obvious example, with famous calls ranging from Hawk Harrelson to Gary Cohen.

Home runs aren't the only scenario. There are also some signature strikeout calls. Note that I'm lazy so I only linked to Hawk and Cohen, but such signature calls are practiced by many other PBP guys too.

I have neither knowledge nor care of whether Matty V has any signature calls in real life. I would guess that he does not, but it is not obligatory that video-game-Matt has to broadcast exactly the same way as real-life-Matt. I see no reason this nuance cannot be added to The Show, and I think it would be a big boost to the excitement and memorability of various game events.

Matt Vasgersian is known for his "Santa Maria" call for big plays and that is reflected in the game

It's not a signature if isn't consistently used.

I've heard it in The Show but only seldom.
The two examples I gave are used 100% of the time. Cohen says "it's outta here" for literally EVERY home run. Hawk says "... the board" for literally EVERY home run.

That is nowhere near the current state of "Santa Maria"

          He does it on walkoffs.
It is his signature and it is part of the game.

Anything beyond that, would be forcing it, considering he is a real commentator and cannot have "fake" signature calls attributed to him.

So you're saying he refuses to do other signature calls in The Show? Because there's no rule that prevents him from having fake signature calls attributed to him. Such a prohibition would only be his own choice.

                Thats not what I said....

Making one up for The Show would be odd..if he himself does not consider it a signature phrase. There would be a mismatch between real life and The Show...

But in The Show he does borrow stuff from real people...

                1. He calls White Sox "The Good Guys" - Hawk
                2. When Robinson Cano gets a single he says "Cano don't ya know" - John Sterling

I am sure there are others I am not thinking of....
These could all be considered "signature phrases"

Would such a mismatch really be a bad thing? I don't think so.

Doesn't he also do Bob Uecker's (Brewers) home run call? Get up, get up, get outta here, gone!

He also says "raise the jolly Roger" when the pirates win and also "clear the deck cannon ball coming" when he shows a pirates home run replay.

Hawk Harrelson's calls on MLB The Show is the only thing I can think of that might make me stop purchasing the game. I cannot stand him, and not just because I'm a Cubs fan.

He's the worst, and no one can convince me otherwise.

I would love it if they would have put in at least one of Matt's sillier home run calls back from when he did pbp for the Brewers. It was a quote from Animal House. The one about reporting... Without the plwdge pin. I wish I could find it somewhere....

For the Giants they do say "When the Giants come to town it's bye bye baby" when you hit a HR. I personally would love signature calls....but not from him. It would be weird to hear him use Jon Miller's signature calls, or Kruk and Kuips. It just wouldn't be the same.
