This is pretty dumb. It's like taking out a goal celebration smh. They could have just made the celebration unavailable to his player model and that's it. I would definitely use that celebration in the game for my character (wish I could do that in MLB after a home run).

I'm very curious about that as well. Did they have to make a brand new .exe (or whatever the equivalent is) to remove this for some reason?

That slogan argument is lame. Nick Diaz flips off his opponent in damn near every fight but that isnt in the game. Why.....because that would be offensive to some people. Rashad Evans has grabbed his crotch in several fights but its not in the game. Why....because that would be offensive to some people.

Religious celebrations are no longer in the game. Why....because that would be offensive to some people.

I dont have an angle here. Im just shocked at how narrowminded some people are when it comes to stuff like this.
I'm not religious but If we're being completely fair here, grabbing your crotch or flicking someone off is a blatant sign of disrespect. Doing the sign of the cross isn't, it's actually quite the opposite.

This is more of a subjective statement but I don't believe anybody should feel disrespected because another person does the sign of the cross. If this was let's say, Jones Jones' signature after every fight he won, then I'd say keep it in the game. But I completely understand why Khabib would have a major issue with his own player doing it.

I'm an atheist and I don't see anything wrong with the animations. They should have found a way to make it so it would only show up for Christian players, it just adds to the realism.

There are 250 fighters in the game. I'm sure all of them arent Christian. I guess EA should call each of them and ask if they mind having a christian celebration randomly assigned to their fighter?

It doesnt add to the realism because its a random animation. The game had fighters doing the animation who would never do it in real life. Thats the opposite of realism.

Again, you guys want EA to confirm each fighter's religion now? LOL.

Not necessarily. If I wasnt Christian, I may find someone worshipping their god in the ring as disrespectful to my god or my belief that their isnt a god.

So whats the better move: saying "no one should feel disrespected" and leaving it in or removing it on the off chance that someone would feel disrespected?

Maybe this is a thread that should be closed? Religion is a very sensitive topic and some of these statements made already have been.. Shocking.

The thread won't be closed; at least not right now. There are ways to discuss like aholbert and tybudd (and others) have been doing without going to extremes to get your point across. If the discussion makes you uncomfortable, bow out. If you have to think twice before submitting your response, don't submit it.

I'm of the opinion that EA should've recognized this as soon as the animation was put into the game. To not have the foresight of what would happen with a random animation with fighters from all types of religions, ethnicities, cultures is baffling to me. They're trying to resolve the issue and I have no problem with how they're going about it.

Sorry aholbert, this needed to be removed.
OS will take this down because this is an offensive post not because they are being PC. Everytime I think OS can handle convos like this (Credit to guys like Tybudd and others who while I disagree with them were respectful in their comments), some knucklehead comes in and ruins the intelligent discussion.

                          Please lock this up.

Do you guys understand that it was a "RANDOM" animation and not some christian fighter's signature animation? You do understand the statement that it makes. Now how can EA attach that randomly to fighters who may or may not want to make that kind of statement?

What if you saw fighters just randomly kneeling and praying to Allah? Or Stars of David tattoo'd randomly generated tattoo showing up on fighters? You would be ready to sue EA and burn their headquarters down.

So Pettis doesn't drop to his knee and give the cross sign when entering the cage anymore?

That wasnt changed because thats not a random animation.
