    NHL 2015/16 Regular Season

Tyler Johnson now hurt on a dirty play against Montreal last night. The injuries that have mounted up quickly in the last month for Tampa is almost hysterical

Per Yahoo NHL twitter; Datsyuk says this is his last season in the NHL. He wants to go back to Russia for family reasons.

I doubt it. They're probably happy with the two Cup rings.

I'd like to thank the Bruins for choking horribly. We now get the pleasure of going down in 5 to Tampa.

Datsyuk would probably stay if we were a contending team, but he sees the writing on the wall. I thought he would finish his contract out and leave after next season. This adds extra intrigue to the Wings' offseason.

Never saw it as that way. I always thought of it as Richards and Carter leaving/being moved out of Philly as blowing up in Philly's face, especially after the cups were realized in LA. Philly has nothing to show for it so far except for some exciting games.

Rangers fans seem to want the Islanders to win tonight so the Rangers can face Florida instead of Pittsburgh. I think it's a "be careful what you wish for" situation.

Same. Now that we've had time to analyze it, we won the trades as far as players goes, but the Kings have the hardware with both players contributing. Of course, Carter wasn't traded to LA from Philly but found his way there via Columbus.

I'd gladly take back the mess that Richards became if it meant 2 Cups in Philly. I love Simmonds and Voracek (and it cleared room to sign Bryzgalov which obviously flopped) but a championship is priceless. And the Kings have been perennially good since then besides last year's disappointment. They didn't just hit on one lucky playoff run.

                Just the way things go.

You don't want a hard and fast rule when superstars like Ovie or Benn tend to play on the edge.

Hit to the head? 5 games. Second offense, 10 games.
Swing a stick into someone's face? Auto 15-games for first offense, 30 for 2nd...

Weber's mugging was terrible, but it never would have resulted in the loss of an eye.
Keith could have done way more damage. He's incredibly lucky Coyle is made of steel.
He got off incredibly, unbelievably light. If anyone disagrees, just ask the PA, which refused to appeal the decision.
The union would argue if someone was sneezed in their direction. For them to keep their mouths shut tells you all you need to know about how light that penalty was.

Paul MacLean was right. They should change the name of this sport to 'Goalie'.

Hartley's system has no structure in their own zone. Too many defenders trying stretch passes, forwards not helping out in the own zone creating a large gap between forwards and defenders, etc.

I would hate it my fav team had a similar system like that... oh wait.

                            It's funny you mention that.
On XM Home Ice a sabremetrics guy said that Roy, Hartley, Paul MacLean and Beaudreau had no business winning those awards because of their poor advanced stats.
This guy claimed that all analytics determined that their lone great season was a fluke and would eventually crash down to earth.
He was certainly right about the Avalanche.

That was knock on both the Avs and Flames in their latest playoff appearances, that it was very much an anomaly the success they had. The seasons since have proved that.

Exactly why both the eyes/gut and advanced metrics should be used. You can't rely on a computer to tell you exactly how a game of season will go, just as you can't rely on "the way things have always been done" keeping your team competitive and your job secure.

I actually don't know much about advanced metrics in hockey but know that possession is getting its moment. But just as data is driving business in the real world, it should be used in companion with other methods to maximize returns/results.

It just seems smart to use all the tools at your disposal, ya know? Some coaches and teams will cut off their nose to spite their face to fight the advancement of the game. It's happening, get with it or get lost!

In Boudreau's case, he deserved those awards because his GM makes dumb moves after dumb moves. Murray just gets bailed out because his amateur scouts are amazing.
