PCI placement
So being new to Zone hitting I had a quick question. The way I've been hitting is by starting the PCI in the lower outside corner. I've heard of people start the at bat by aiming higher in the zone. Just curious what method you guys use for where you aim the PCI BEFORE the pitcher throws the ball? Thanks!Tags: None -
Re: PCI placement
I play RTTS with zone hitting. I personally can't track the pitch coming in like you see in videos regarding zone hitting. What I do is see what the situation calls for the pitcher to do and then have the PCI where I expect the pitch to be. For example, in a double play situation I expect low pitches to try to get me to hit a ground ball, so I have the PCI low before the pitch comes in. -
Re: PCI placement
I normally just leave it centered and react. Probably not the best, but I haven't had much trouble. One problem I have is if there's a pitch right down the middle, for some reason I want to pull the PCI down.Comment

I have that same problem. Drives me crazy.Comment

Re: PCI placement
I usually tend to start the PCI high. That way I dont have to move it if the pitch is a high fastball. It's much easier to flick the stick down and react if the pitch is low in my opinion. And a lot of low stuff will be breaking balls and offspeed too, so you have a slit second extra to react and move it down there.Comment

Re: PCI placement
If I'm playing zone I usually guess on a pitch in the upper part of the zone then move the pci to the lower half. If the pitch is up the pci automatically moves there because I guessed correctly. If it's not up then chances are it will be in the lower part where I already have the pci. Depends on the hitter though. Sometimes I just leave it centered and react

Re: PCI placement
Interesting. ... I didn't know people moved it from the center before the pitch. I just leave mine in the center and then aim it towards the pitch as it comes inComment

Re: PCI placement
That is what I do but I don't know why but I have a bad habit of going down even when I see the pitch is high. So as a result I tend to have a hard time hitting high pitches drives me nuts.Comment

Re: PCI placement
I always start high and inside them adjust down and away from there. A lot of times I'll over compensate on pitches in the middle of the zone and get under them, I have to start high though to have any chance at solid contact with the high fastball.

Re: PCI placement
After 6 years on Timing hitting I decided I'm moving to zone this year. Simply it just feels more dynamic and the hit variation is much better IMO.
That being said I'm struggling a lot. I've hit HR's and get 5 hits a game but it feels like a lot of luck as I just can't seem to track pitches. I'm trying to go the situational route but still struggling a lot. Not sure what approach to follow at all...San Francisco 49ers

Re: PCI placement
I've only used directional hitting but now that I'm on All Star difficulty it just doesn't work anymore (I only pressed X/Square at the right time, never used the left stick). It actually went pretty good in the beginning but not anymore. I tried zone for over three hours last night but I'm really, REALLY terrible at it. I jerk the PCI way too much and almost never get a hit. And my plate discipline is terrible since I tend to react to every pitch that's thrown at me.
I really don't know what to do. I can't stay on the lower difficulties because it's not fun to hit dingers all the time. Well it is, but not like that.Comment

Re: PCI placement
Did you stick with it? How long before you got the hang of it?
I tried it again last night, but in Plate discipline. Didn't go so well. After that I tried Good at-bat and I just can't track the pitches. I hit a couple of doubles and dingers but that was when figured out where the pitcher most likely would put it.
I really want to be able to use Zone and eliminate the randomness of Directional hitting but so far it's not going well.Comment
