Exeter City Reveal New Home Shirt

After many years with their old kit, the Exeter board have decided to reveal the new home kit for the upcoming season alongside their flashy new training and youth facilities. In the overhaul of Exeter City, it has been rumoured that they are setting their sights on St. James’ Park to either expand or relocate to another stadium.

August

Barclays Premier League (14/08)
Fulham
0-1
Exeter City

Compton 35’ (Aké)

MotM : Shkodran Mustafi (7.0)

Our first game of the season was quite poor. Our new signing, Renze Koppers had a poor game for us up front and right midfielder Harry East also didn’t impress much. Torres did alright and picked out a few excellent passes but a touch of brilliance by Compton was the only reason why we got three points in this match.

Barclays Premier League (22/08)
Chelsea
0-0
Exeter City

MotM : Kurt Zouma (8.5)

Tariqe McBurnie got a start on the left wing and was definitely our best player throughout the game. He was a nuisance for Chelsea whenever they went forward and the Englishman always managed to pick out a pass forward to Cristiano Ronaldo who threatened all match. In the end, both teams cancelled each other out.

Barclays Premier League (26/08)
Exeter City
2-0
Manchester United

Saúl 56’ (Morata)
Torres 84’

MotM : Lucas Magallán (6.9)

We performed a little better in this game whilst two of our new signings contributed to the scoreline. Morata left the 5’5” Compton in the area to win a header against three Manchester United players but to give the Englishman credit; he managed to head the ball out to the edge of the area to Morata who then laid the ball off to Saúl who finished with a sweetly hit shot along the ground. The second was a sublime shot from the corner of the box and off the crossbar by Torres to finish off the match.

Capital One Cup (31/08)
Wolves
1-5
Exeter City

Saville 45’+1’
Compton 4’, 11’, 51’
Ward-Prowse 53’
Geis 67’

MotM : Conor Compton (9.5)

Four minutes into the game and Compton pulls of a contender for Exeter’s goal of the season already. Morata passed the ball to Compton who takes one touch to cut inside past the defender and perfectly curls the ball around the keeper from far outside the box. His second was pure class (kinda looked like Aleksandar Kolarov’s latest goal for Man City). The other goals included a one-on-one for Compton’s hat-trick, a Ward-Prowse free-kick and a Johannes Geis volley. A long range George Saville strike prevented In Hyung Lee continuing his 100% clean sheet record.

September

Barclays Premier League (11/09)
Arsenal
0-0
Exeter City

MotM : Alex Oxlade Chamberlain (7.8)

A forgetful game in all honesty. We’ve also received a big blow with James Ward-Prowse being taken off due to injury.

James Ward-Prowse has suffered a Broken Elbow and will be out for about 2 months.

Champions League Group Stages (15/09)
Exeter City
3-1
Spartak Moskva

Compton 29’ (Alonso)
Ronaldo 61’ (Koppers)
Chamberlain 90’
Movsisyan 83’

MotM : Adrián Saiz Alonso (8.3)

Some nice football was played in this match in order for us to win the first match of our group with Compton getting a lucky deflection off his header to put us into the lead and with half an hour to go, a sublime Renze Koppers cross was turned onto the head of Cristiano Ronaldo for our second goal. Spartak Moskva clawed one back in the final ten minutes but substitute Oxlade Chamberlain received the ball from a Saiz Alonso tackle on the edge of the box to place the ball into the bottom right corner for the guaranteed three points in our group.

Barclays Premier League (18/09)
Exeter City
2-1
Crystal Palace

Torres 38’ (Une Larsson)
Geis 87’ (Une Larsson)
Appiah 77’

MotM : Shkodran Une Larsson (8.9)

Torres got his second goal from a sweet header at the back post from a Une Larsson corner but with just over ten minutes left, Crystal Palace equalised from a rebound. In the final few minutes, Johannes Geis managed to get onto the end of a low cross into the box which was blasted past the keeper for what seems like a crucial win.

Capital One Cup Round 3 (21/09)
Exeter City
2-1
Bristol City

Compton 81’
Une Larsson 86’ (East)
Bishop 88’

MotM : Harry East (7.7)

If you ask me what happened up to 80 minutes I’d probably scratch my head blankly for a while. Up until the last ten minutes this match was a forgettable one. On the 81st minute, the deadlock was broken due to the individual magic of Conor Compton who claimed the ball deep in the opposition half before squeezing his shot between three defenders and into the bottom corner. We finished the game off after new signing Harry East delivered a low ball into the box for Une Larsson who used his run from deep to generate masses of power to aid the ball past the keeper at his near post. Bristol clawed one back through Marley Bishop after getting on the end of his own rebound but it was too late for Bristol to get back another.

Barclays Premier League (25/09)
Newcastle United
0-2
Exeter City

Morata 21’ (Une Larsson)
Magallán 56’ (Une Larsson)

MotM : Une Larsson (9.5)

A visit to St James’ Park and TheYanks saw another world class performance by Shkodran Une Larsson who ran the show as a centre forward behind Morata. Just after the 20 minute mark, Morata gets his head onto a Une Larsson cross for his first goal since coming to the club. A Une Larsson corner to the near post allowed Lucas Magallán to rise above his marker to confirm the three points for us today. TheYanks did field the Premier League’s top goalscorer Paulo Dybala but the striker had an awful game and ended up being substituted with around a quarter of an hour left without having a single shot.

Champions League Group Stages (28/09)
Anderlecht
0-5
Exeter City

Une Larsson 12’, 13’
Compton 24’
Magallán 56’ (Une Larsson)
Smith 76’

MotM : Une Larsson (9.7)

Une Larsson showed his class today. He provided some real threat up front and Eliot Smith managed to get his second in the senior team.

The new youth scouting system has offered us some great talent for the future. A particular steal was the Meirelles brothers who we managed to catch before they went to another big club’s youth team.
