How many days until skills begin to decline?

I'm trying to figure out how many points I need to keep saved in case things start to slide on me.

I haven't played since '13 and I remember some skills used to be linked so if you trained one it consider them all recently trained. It doesn't appear to be that way now.

Any tips for training point management for a newbie?

    Thanks in advance.

In RttS, it's 60 days. Not sure if that is the case for the other modes.

If I were you I would either invest in x2 boost or straight up training points and save those for a rainy day. Sometimes all the attributes get the yellow arrow and then you have to prioritize. But with a litte extra TP you can take it easy. Don't use them until the arrow is either yellow or red (unless you want to increase your skills of course).

I currently have x2 boost for 150 innings for my SP. In hindsight that was a bit excessive but at least I'm set for life unless I want to go nuts with my fielding/batting attributes.

In franchise mode, most of the progression and regression happens at the end of the months. I've seen big changes in both directions at the end of April, May and June so far.

I wouldn't worry too much about skills decline. In raw RTTS (no perks, no showtime) I never had a problem maintaining skill levels. I easily grew from a 50 to 80 overall in 2 years. It only starts to become a problem once the skill levels are really high and each point costs 300+ points, but by then you're probably in MLB making bigger plays and more points.

One thing to keep in mind is you only get points for the plays you're involved with - so in other words, if you decide to never play fielding opportunities, you'll miss out on a huge amount of points (since I usually make way more points from fielding than batting).
