Re: Is It Time For The Angels to Trade Mike Trout?

I assume we are talking in game (in the main here) and for me, as the Angels are the team I am thinking about playing as, then its a no.

1 - Trout will be fun to play with and thats a big part of why id be the Angels
2 - Im not sure what he would command in terms of in game trade value
3 - As its a game, there is always a way to work things. Sure some players may not stack up irl, but who is to say they wont play well in the Show
4 - Related to the above, the Angels without Trout lose some of their identity (if that makes sense)

They probably just need to hang on to him, they suck at making deals.........CJ Wilson, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton. Of course if your another team and with the Angels track record, you might be able to offer them a peanut butter sandwich and a player to be named later.

Shouldn't this be in the pro baseball section?

Depends on what they can get for him. People thought the Cowboys were nuts for dealing away Herschel Walker to Minnesota, but that trade helped build a team that eventually won three Super Bowls.

They aren't a small market team by any means so I don't see the reasoning. It really comes down to drafting/trading better..based on their history do you really think they'll get good players for Mike Trout? Their scouting department is the problem. They aren't drafting well. They consistently have the worst system in baseball year in and year out, it's no wonder they can't turn the corner.

Yup. They ain't winning with him and only him. They have no one coming up. It's just like when A-Rod signed with Texas. He was putting up 50 hrs and 150 rbis.....for a last place team. This ain't basketball. One player ain't enough to win. And the longer they wait, the less they get for him. They can get like 5-6 positions filled right now for him. Every year they wait is one less player that would get included in the trade. And then in 4 years, he'll be gone anyways and off to a team with a future.

Re: Is It Time For The Angels to Trade Mike Trout?

Not only do the Angels have an absolutely terrible farm system, they are a team that has one of the worst contracts in baseball (Pujols) and are paying Josh Hamilton over $20M to play against them. Richards needs TJS and it is likely that Heaney will need it as well. Right now it's looking like they can either keep Trout and remain a 75-80 win team and hope they can convince him to re-sign, or they can fix many of their problems with 4 or 5 top prospects rather than 1 Mike Trout.

I think the only teams that could afford to trade for Trout are the Red Sox, Phillies, and Dodgers. Here are some potential packages that I can't see the Angels saying no to...

                LAD: Pederson, Seager, Urias, +
BOS: Moncada, Benintendi, Rodriguez, Swihart/Vazquez, +
PHI: Franco, Herrera, Crawford, Velasquez, Appel

                  Trade him to the Braves.

Nah jk lol. It seems any position player who comes to Atl suddenly forgets how to hit. I'll pass.

On-topic: IMO trading him won't solve all their problems. They're basically between a rock and a hard place now.

He's a money maker whether they win or not. Ask the Mariners about this sort of thing.

Should they? no but its not a bad idea.

This is just fun speculation though, who doesnt want to see him somewhere else on a contending team?

If they could get two other teams involved and got literally 6 cant miss prospects along with 2 young 2 to mid rotation starters than i'd MAYBE consider it, MAYBE...

What they get in return wouldn't match his output. Asinine question.

Angels also have a ton of salary coming off the books after this season.

You absolutely do not trade your best player. You build around him. Trade the other crap on the team like Pujols or Weaver.

Under no circumstance at this point should they trade Trout. He's too young and no team could give you enough to make worth it. To me at 24 to get Trout would cost a team almost everything they have. If trout were older than maybe. If they are in this position 5 years from now than yes it's a discussion to have but not at 24 and he's locked up until 2020. Only real issue would be if he becomes upset at the constant losing and demands a trade but I don't see that happening just yet.

Trout's salary also increases from $16M to $34M next year, so that will lessen some of that salary relief.

I think it's an interesting question. Can they mold themselves into a successful team by the time his contract is up and convince him to stay? Of they can't, I think they should consider trading him in one of the last two years of that deal to try to get something back
