I really hope your right JP.But again, after saying last year they put more into CFM than ever... didnt add much to it and it came out a hot broken mess, so much so the head of CFM had to suggest to us not to start our leagues for a while.

One thing i hate most is seeing some weird stuff added no one is asking for while leaving out things the community is asking for. Because when i see it, i think, you tell me you have this short dev time, why are you wasting on things people who are buying your game are not asking for but not putting in more of what we are asking for. I get the short time to make something new.I dont get spending that valuable time on things we dont want.

Take that "waiting list" for example, they claimed they added that around may of last year after they heard the community really wanted a draft board. Now , knowing we want a customizable draft board, and saying they heard us, this year if im going to look at what they did and say its a success, they need to finish what they started there. The watch list is not enough. They have the foundation in a short time, this year it should come to full fruition. Those are the type of things i look at. I dont start a project and just let it go half done and not finish it.I expect the same from others.
    Yup, i said it !

I personally enjoy Madden as much as anyone in this forum; if Madden NFL has no competition for my attention, then I'd have 250 fewer hours logged playing Cities: Skylines, I wouldn't own Mortal Kombat X, and I wouldn't have No Man's Sky and DOOM pre-ordered. There are plenty of other good games to play, and those games are Tiburon's present-day competition.
Ehhhhh, a white lie? Sure, Madden competes with every other game in the market, fine. But when you are talking about a sports game, and unless I'm beyond mistaken, many (probably the majority) Madden buyers go to buy the game because they want to play football, not necessarily the based on the current game market. But when talking specifically about American football, they are competing against themselves.
I don't usually go to the store and say, "Aw man, no frosted flakes? Gotta stock up on some celery, peanut butter, and toilet paper."
It's: "No frosted flakes? I gotta pick up some honeynut cheerios, cocoa puffs, or rice krispies."

Anyone have any bold predictions for the cover? My bold prediction is Joe Thomas with a new emphasis on the offensive line.

Anecdotally, I observe that the tenor of conversation in this forum - consistently one of the most critical eyes on the internet for the Madden NFL series - is more positive than it has been in literally years.

You're mixing the concepts of indirect competition and direct competition. Direct competition is a thing, it exists. That's why Battlefield publicly goes at Call of Duty instead of oh, I dunno, Moto Racer 4, and Why NBA Live went at NBA 2K (and BOY did they lose that one, lol).

Madden has no direct competition as there are no other console football games on the market. That's a fact. Yeah, they have indirect competition, but, every product on the market has that. They all compete for your dollars, that's a given.

Mine would be that the cover athlete doesn't have anything to do with a particular feature. That and/or the cover guy is John Madden himself.

While i highly doubt it, I would love to see an Olinemen on the cover , because then i would know , maybe for once my onlinemen will stop blocking air , while watching defenders blow by them at the snap. Or just run their blocking route, but not picking up the nearest guy to them , whom they just let right by them to stop my HB in backfield often.

Really hope that is fixed in 17 either way, but i would think it was cool to see an Olinemen on the cover as they really are a huge factor in how effective an offense can be.Thats why i focus on drafting them in the first two years of our CFM.Gotta shore up that oline .However, Olinemen arent flashy enough i dont think to be found on the cover.

I don't see them picking anyone that hasn't risen in popularity in the NFL. Just makes sense and EA isn't into risk taking.

Personally I don't think anyone here cares about who's on the cover, but discussing the trailer just leads to discussions that are frowned upon so...

I don't care about cover athletes. However, I would like to see John Madden himself back on the cover. For some reason looking at the old covers with him on it just evoke memories of NFL football; "X's and O's". Not "run to daylight", "fear the D" or "highlight catches". Those are welcome editions but I don't want stuff I expect already in the game to be highlighted. John Madden to me represents no fluff, just football.

Well if it's John Madden on the cover, I'll pray he returned to do the color commentary for the game. I honestly forget though how well he did when he was used for the game.

Now that would just be fantastic, not sure why they havent done that already. Putting John on the cover , re-invokes peoples memory of when Madden used to be really good, and focused more on Football than glitches and money plays.

If they decided to put a head coach on the cover, with there being a focus of CFM this year, who would you guys like to see? Or who do you guys think are the most deserving? I would like to see Bill Belichick because it would mean he finally allowed EA to use his likeness.

Glitches and money plays are going to be in every sports game. Way to many plays for players who want to abuse the system to find and exploit. Now it's up to EA to include patches to fix this stuff when it rears it's ugly head or remove the play from online use.

You're right, this in particular is not a white lie, this is now flat-out false.

Tiburon has released no fewer than nine title updates for Madden NFL 16 - unprecedented in the AAA sports gaming space. Two of these updates have added new ways to play the game in Draft Champions Play A Friend and MUT Salary Cap Ranked, and one added much-clamored for options for hardcore players in XP sliders for Connected Franchise. This is also unprecedented as no other major sports game is adding entire game modes post-launch. Heck, not many other video games period are doing this. And actually, Madden Ultimate Team was introduced the same way - a free post-release patch - in Madden NFL 10, so really Tiburon's only precedent is their own history with the Madden NFL series which people are accusing them of putting low effort into.

Anecdotally we also know that Tiburon has doubled the size of their dev team over the past several years, and when NCAA Football was put on the shelf many of those assigned to that series were brought into the Madden fold rather than let go outright.

The idea that Tiburon has "stepped off the gas" doesn't match the amount of resources they are putting back into the series. This effort is evident in the ascending quality of the game over the past several years, both critically in the mainstream (Metacritic scores, etc.), the perception of the game on the careful and detail-oriented critical eye that is this website, and also with the amount of effort they continue to put into Madden 16 post-launch.

If you want to look at a sports game series that's actually complacent, that's actually low-effort, look at the WWE 2K series, whose yearly efforts compared to what Madden and literally every other major sports game has accomplished over the past several years (besides maybe the RBI Baseball re-make) have been pretty laughable, especially with respect to post-release support where Madden is currently running laps around most of the competition.

Does everything they do for Madden align with what OS wants? Obviously that's not the case. They have many interest groups to cater to. Do they always succeed with what they set out to do? They have a better track record now than in the past, but also obviously there are things to improve. But let's be real here when evaluating the effort level, especially the current effort level.

What I mean it's more about playing Madden than simulating the sport. They omit certain parts of football for the culture of "Madden" they've created.
