At what age does a typical player stop progressing and then start to decline?

it depends on the player and their peak start/end ages.

If you go to the edit player screen you can see their peak start age and peak end age. They usually start declining after their peak end.

It's currently a big mess regarding player potential especially in modes like MyGM, ML or MyCareer. Player who are higher picks play better, players who are low 1st round to 2nd round doesn't play at all, so you can't see late bloomers, busts or some 2nd round gem transitioning into star player.

There are ways to get players much past their potential ratings
