You're the one calling it "essential". You just did again. In the context of a video game, no. It's absolutely not. It's a cosmetic option. That's all it is.

A virtual video game football player doesn't require a virtual mouthpiece to play virtual football. The video game has no gameplay mechanics which rely on player equipment load-outs. Every equipment option is purely cosmetic as far as the video game is concerned.

Of all the issues to take with Madden, which there are plenty, this for me is quite possibly literally at the bottom of the list. Faulting EA for choosing to leave out mouthpieces in favor of delivering other features IMO is absolutely pedantic and reeks of looking for reasons to be disappointed in the game.
To the bold, the point I think others and I keep making time and time again about stuff like mouthpieces is, it's not a feature, it something that should just be there by now.

I see it as animated mouthpieces, meaning players take them in/out during games, chew on them, they fall to the ground, etc, that would be a feature but not just having cosmetic mouthpieces, which is what I'm referring to.

Based on what though? Serious question. If the guy who was hired specifically to work on equipment comes in the thread and tells you exactly why it's not in the game but that he wants to do it, then what reason is there for it to "just be there by now," other than a (frankly) arbitrary line of demarcation that some people have chosen to draw in the sand with regards to this game?

Whether it should be there doesn't change the fact that the thing is currently not there and also that making it so will take real man-hours to implement, and it will likely continue to not be there as long as Tiburon determines that there are more important features to deliver into the game.

Scolding the game by saying "it should be there by now" is a useless and counterproductive exercise.

I use the flipboard app on my phone, and one of the newsfeeds is NFL. The other day as I was flipping through, I noticed something, here are the pics from the first few headlines. Seemed like every pic had a player with a mouthpiece. Made me think of this discussion. I actually realy like the Madden game visuals, I just feel like accurate player likeness is an area that Madden seriously fails in, it would just be a huge step towards fixing that. The only reason I am adamant about it.

If that's the case, when does it become important? They went a whole generation without them.

They went many versions of the game without really touching equipment(cleats, gloves).

Like I said it just seems like they ignore stuff until people yell loud enough.
There's always stuff they seemed to have deemed more important. Seems like scolding the game and telling them this stuff should've been changed and addressed is the only way it gets changed and addressed.

Makes sense especially considering one job of a mouth guard is to protect against concussion caused by the jaw snapping together. Can't believe they aren't mandatory in the NFL but you have to cover your knees bc no one wants to see that lol

Towels and hand warmers aren't essential to the game but they made a big deal out of it when they added them citing autheticity(and it still aggravates me when a towel starts clipping through players bodies lol)

With "just be there by now" meaning, as some pics posted after my post demonstrate, it's a realistic general cosmetic aesthetic, that has no technical, licensing (like tattoos), etc reason for being left out, so given that how long Madden's been on these consoles, it's reasonable that it should have made the checklist by now.

To the specific point about the reason given, I already explained in my previous post, I'm not referring to animated mouthpieces, which it seems to me Kane was, I'm referring to cosmetic mouthpieces.

So let me seriously ask you, what's your general point, that they're not in so move on, no need in discussing it or having an opinion it?

I mean what more can you do? They're not in. They aren't gonna be in this year. They know we want them in. No sense harping on it forever. The horse has been beaten, there's nothing left of it.

Regardless of the reason, it's not happening this year.

So we can go two ways. We can continue to post page after page asking why they can't put them in, why they don't think they are a priority, calling devs lazy, and so on and so forth. This all leads to nonconstructive posts, and potential bans.

If you can't let it go here, then get on twitter and pester the developers to your hearts content. I'm sure you (everyone, not directed at you) will get blocked.

Or we can move on. Discuss other things, get back to a less toxic discussion.

I think its time we moved on. I think everything that can be said has been said.

I don;t think Kane was referring to the animated mouth pieces you were talking about (which sounded pretty damn cool!), but the standard cosmetic ones.

My best guess is that the face scans are causing an issue with creating a mounting point for accessories, due to the fact that the mouth moves.

I can understand the point but it's unfortunate that any discussion ever turns toxic. There are plenty of discussions on OS and in this forum that if I have grown tired of, feel like have run their course, are pointless or I have no interest in, I just ignore or remove myself from them. I'm not directing that at you obviously, you have a job to do, I just meant that in regard to the average poster and avoiding issues.

As far as mouthpieces go, I'm now trying to understand what exactly Kane was saying about the mouths move. Did he mean in Madden or was he saying in general?

Some players faces can move due to their "Face Poser" features. I think that is what he's referring to.
Over the years, the Madden franchise has led the way in making life-like video games, from pixelated blobs to a look almost indistinguishable from the real thing. Sarah Kogod went to Baltimore to watch the EA team turn the Ravens into avatars.
