Can Cade McNown and Curtis Enis bring a title to Chicago?

Sadly my Rams dynasty is already coming to a close because I saved over it, and while I had a backup file it was in week 13 of 2018, meaning I would have to redo the entire offseason.

However, I went out and finally upgraded to a PS4 and Madden 16.

Anyways, lets get into this dynasty.

The year is 2000, and the Chicago Bears are coming off of a 4-12 season, ending up with the 5th pick in the draft. Rookie QB Cade McNown threw 16 TD's to 10 interceptions while only playing 9 games due to a herniated disk. Da Bears intend to continue to build around McNown as he enters his second season. 2nd year HB Curtis Enis ran for over 1,300 yards and he has cemented himself as a key building block on this team. 3rd year receiver Marcus Robinson went off, collecting over 1,000 receiving yards despite playing with 3 different quarterbacks throughout the year. Other than that, the team needs a lot of work, specifically defensively. The linebacking core is pretty bad and the secondary is atrocious. Can da Bears get back to winning again or will they continue down the path of mediocrity?

2000 Chicago Bears Draft Overview

After a rough 4-12 season that included 10 straight losses, our Chicago Bears did nothing in free agency, not signing a single player. Instead, Chicago opted to build through the draft, and judging by the picks GM Mark Hatley made....things aren't looking too good for the Bears to improve upon their 4-12 record in 2000.

5. Farrington Lucas CB/California | 75

As much as everyone is rationalizing this selection, saying Lucas has "high upside", this year is not the draft to take a corner this high. Lucas ran a 4.32 40 time and had a ton of interceptions in college, even setting an NCAA record by taking 4 picks to the house in 1999, but he is very raw and undisciplined.

Grade: C+

37. Demetrious Knox LB/Tennessee | 77

I really like this pick of Knox. I watched some tape of him right after we drafted him and he was all over the place at Tennessee. I think he can play one of the inside linebacker spots and rack up a bunch of tackles this year.

Grade: A-

101. Terrell Robertson DE/UTEP | 67

Robertson obviously won't start day 1, but I think a few years down the road he can be a premier pass rusher, he has that much upside.

Grade: B

133. Jamal Gordon WR/USC | 63

I'm not quite as high on Gordon as I was his college teammate Blair, but from the tape I watched he could afford to get stronger at the catch point but he has nice hands. He'll provide decent WR depth.

Grade: B-

165: Kendal Terrell DT/Mississippi State | 63

Terrell's tape is atrocious....I don't even know how he was drafted.

Grade: D

197. AJ Gomez QB/Georgia Tech | 60

Gomez is the best Georgia Tech QB I've seen in a while, and I'm shocked he fell this far, many people said he was the 3rd best QB in this draft, even ahead of Edward Jackson, the 49ers 1st round pick. This is quite a steal here, maybe the Bears have finally found a quality backup QB.

Grade: A

After making all these grades, I've concocted a GPA system to combine all my grades, and da Bears got a....2.8. It was a decent draft, but the pick of Lucas drags the GPA down.

2001 Chicago Bears Draft Overview

1. Kasey Beckwith QB/Michigan | 79

For the 2nd time in 3 years, the Bears have a new head coach and have spent their 1st round pick on a QB. However, I think this will be a different story than 1999. Kasey Beckwith is the real deal from the tape I watched, and considering he doesn't have the character concerns Cade McNown had, he should be the franchise QB the Bears have been looking for. Here's some of his tape if you don't believe me.

Grade: A+

33. Jevonte Harper WR/Oregon State | 76

I thought Harper was a late 1st round prospect, and I'm very happy the Bears got him at the start of the 2nd. Harper should step right in and be a reliable target for Beckwith to throw to. The only problem is Harper can be a bit of a clown, but I think Jim Zorn can reel him in.

Grade: A

65. Lawrence Guy DT/Alabama | 77

Guy was pretty good at Alabama, and he should replace the departed Jim Flanagan very nicely.

Grade: A

97. Gabriel Griffin G/Texas A&M Kingsville | 72

Griffin will reportedly be starting at right guard, and I think he's a diamond in the rough. Finding a starter in the 4th round is quite impressive, especially on the offensive line.

Grade: A

129. Al Spencer HB/Nebraska | 62

James Allen will have some competition for the backup HB spot. Once again, another pick that I thought was a value, but I think the Bears should've looked defense here. Here's a look at some of his tape with fellow Nebraska HB Desi Hatcher.

Grade: B

139. Casey Lawson G/Boston College | 64

Chicago looks offensive line again, and this is a pick I don't like. I think Jim Zorn is forgetting he has a defense.

Grade: C

161. Brandon Burns CB/Notre Dame | 68

Finally a defensive pick, and this one is in the secondary! Burns is great value here, so I really like this pick.

Grade: A

193. Jack Hardman K/USF | 77

Chris Boinol may have won kicker of the year, but he can't kick a field goal over 48 yards anymore. Hardman, the cousin of Martin Gramatica, should win the kicking job rather easily.

Grade: B+

Here is a quick preview of the team, this was the 1999 week 17 game against the Detroit Lions. Cade McNown had a career day in this one, throwing for 414 yards in his much anticipated return from his ruptured disk. Marcus Robinson also went off with over 200 yards receiving, yet it wasn't enough as da Bears fell to Detroit 36-29 for their 10th straight loss.
