This is definitely insane how quickly they have risen and it really has developed into a nice subplot for this dynasty. Not only are they killing it on the field, but the last time I looked, they have a top 10 recruiting class coming in for the next season, so they'll be around for a while it seems.

Here are a few other random notes to provide some background on just how special this year is for them:

Every year of this dynasty except for two (2011, and then again in 2016 when we won our first national title), there has been at least one team that finished the year undefeated. Right now, they're the only undefeated team.

There have only been three years in which a mid-major finished the year undefeated: 2010 - Boise St. won the national title with a 13-0 record, 2012 - Utah finished 13-0 and got squeezed out of the title game by being the #3 team in the nation, and 2014 - Boise St. finished 12-0 and they were also squeezed out of the title game as #3.

So yeah, 12 seasons into this dynasty, this is rare air Central Michigan is in.

Even Alabama in real life isn't in the National Title every year, but they're always in contention for the most part. The Tulane squad you've built has gotten to be the same way. Plus like you said, having not won a National Championship in a while makes it more rewarding when you do make it back.

I'm not usually a fan of mid-majors (especially random ones) running up the rankings so quick but considering how far in your dynasty you are, I have to find myself rooting for Central Michigan to make the National Championship. They'll probably get destroyed, but it'd be interesting to see them make it.

Really enjoy your work, looking forward to future updates.
I appreciate all the kind words Knickerbocker. I am glad you're enjoying this.

My biggest fear when reviving this project was that the team may end up too dominant. I'm glad to see we've had small regressions here and there, both in the standings as well as in recruiting, and we even saw our prestige level drop a star this year. The story arc has been very satisfying.

I think a lot of it has to do with only playing a single game per week. It hasn't allowed me to be able to get too used to the game and too "in the zone." I've been playing at this pace for about one calendar year now, so hopefully that's a sign that this will be the case for a long time.

Thanks for following and for checking in fellas!

Game 13, Year 12 Preview (2021 season): #23 Florida Gators vs. #8 Tulane Green Wave

      GAME 13 PREVIEW

      Courtesy

2020: After seeing WR Ryan Jean blow past Gators CB Eric Jones' jam attempt at the line of scrimmage, QB Jimmy Williams heaved a 34-yard touchdown pass to the sophomore stud that gave their team a 20-17 lead midway through the third quarter.

Last Meeting: Last season, after trailing 17-10 early in the third quarter, then-#5 Tulane reeled off 24 unanswered points on their way to a 34-17 victory over unranked Florida at "The Swamp." Former Green Wave QB Jimmy Williams threw for 302 yards and 4 touchdowns while his favorite target on the day, WR Ryan Jean, racked up 6 receptions for 125 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Wave improved their record to 9-1 on the year.

2019: Then-true freshman CB Nate Hall's 26-yard interception return for a touchdown made the score 17-7 and Florida never recovered.

Last Meeting at Venue: The two teams last met in the SEC title game in 2019, a game then-#15 Tulane won handily over then-#5 Florida 48-14 in Atlanta. After going down 7-0 early, the Green Wave scored 41 straight points before the Gators would dent the scoreboard again. Former Wave QB Preston Fields threw for 305 yards and 4 touchdowns while then-true freshman WR Ryan Jean caught 7 receptions for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was the two teams' second meeting of that season, the first meeting coming down to a field goal by former Tulane PK Alex White on the game's final play in a 27-24 victory for the Wave at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

2017: On the next play following a Gators turnover less than a minute into the third quarter, former Green Wave QB Jamie Manning lined up with an empty backfield and heaved a deep pass to streaking RB Reggie Moore which was caught for a 43-yard touchdown to make the score 27-17.

Last Meeting (Bonus): These two teams also met in the 2017 SEC Championship Game, a game Tulane won 41-31 to improve their record to 13-0 before eventually falling to USC in the BCS National Championship Game a few weeks later. Former Green Wave QB Jamie Manning completed 14 of his 25 passes for 344 yards and 3 touchdowns along with 0 interceptions and former RB Brett Curtis chipped in with 14 carries for 98 yards, including a 63-yard fourth quarter touchdown with 4:01 remaining to extend Tulane's lead to their eventual 10-point victory margin. Eventual Heisman Trophy winning RB Reggie Moore finished the game with 204 all-purpose yards and 2 touchdowns in what was his final audition for the prestigious award. The Wave won despite former Florida QB Tyler Skinner finishing 36 of 51 for 450 yards and 2 touchdowns and giving up over 500 yards defensively to the Gators.

      Head Coach D. Geezy's Take

Tulane head coach D. Geezy addressed the media Thursday morning.

Coming off last week's disappointment, we are obviously anxious to get back at it this week and certainly this game is even bigger now coming off last year's blowout loss in Atlanta versus South Carolina.

Florida is a team we're very familiar with, having played them three times over the course of the past two years. They're solid across the board and you'll have a hard time finding any weaknesses in their lineup. Their front-7 is impressive and junior DE David Ingraham (89 ovr) specifically has given us some problems in the past.

They didn't have their top wide out last year, Mike Lewis (88 ovr), so that will make them a much different team than the one we faced a year ago at The Swamp. Their QB Johnny Lambert (89 ovr) struggled in last year's game, but they were missing a few pieces offensively and we expect a much different version of him and the Gators offense.

Make no mistake, this Gators squad will be ready and is much improved from the team we beat the past couple of times we played them.

Dude you're receivers are going to burn their secondary. They have no shot if they don't play zone coverage.

              DEE

In all seriousness, I don't know where the "D. Geezy" thing came from, with just the first initial. I think I did that in one of my early franchise or dynasty reports over a decade ago for some reason and it kind of just stuck as the official video game football coach name for me.

My screename itself is something I created in the the late 90s and it is a play on the name B-Geezy, a nickname of the rapper B.G., formerly of Cash Money, who I listened to a lot during my high school years. My first name starts with a D, so I made the switch and just rolled with it as my official internet alter ego name.

Can't say I disagree. They look very slow and I do plan to try to pass a good bit against them. Ryan Jean has owned them every time he's played them, so I hope to continue that.

That CB/S Joyce, with 78 speed looks ripe for the pickin'. He's been victimized a few times by us over the years. Of note however, he's 6 foot 7!

Thanks as always for the replies fellas...Time to kick off the game!

                #8X 20 -- 11-2 (9-0)

Tulane CB Josh Warren's 104-yard interception return touchdown broke an NCAA record and made the score 17-0 in the second quarter.

TULANE RECLAIMS SEC CROWN WITH 20-0 SHUTOUT VICTORY OVER FLORIDA

Despite sloppy offensive performance, Green Wave captures its 6th SEC title in the past 7 seasons | Wave defense holds Gators to just 157 total yards, records only the second shutout of the Geezy era | Florida never recovers following CB Warren's NCAA record-long pick-6 | Tulane clinches opportunity to host its own Sugar Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome

Atlanta, GA -- Over the past 6 seasons, the Georgia Dome has been somewhat of a "home away from home" for the Tulane Green Wave, having played in each of the previous six SEC Championship Games though they lost last season's in a 48-24 blowout to underdog South Carolina. On Saturday however, the pendulum shifted back in the 8th ranked Green Wave's favor, as they ousted #23 Florida 20-0 to claim a sixth SEC title since returning to the conference in 2014. The shutout victory was just the second ever under head coach D. Geezy during his 12 year tenure in New Orleans, his only other coming in a 40-0 victory in 2016 versus Georgia in Athens.

Sure enough, PK Chris Coleman's 39-yard first quarter field goal would provide all the points Tulane needed in order to clinch its spot in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Despite an overall mediocre offensive team performance, RB Buck Johnson III's 102 yards on 21 carries helped the Green Wave win the field position and time of possession battles.

True freshman QB Bryce Allen's 11-yard touchdown pass to TE Steven Carpenter on the first play of the second quarter increased the Wave's lead to 10-0. Allen finished the game just 8 of 11 for 147 yards along with 1 touchdown and 1 interception as the Wave played ball control offense much of the second half behind the legs of RB Buck Johnson III, who finished with a game-high 101 rushing yards.

In what was more or less a defensive struggle, the two teams combined for just 361 yards of offense. The Wave defense held Gators QB Johnny Lambert to just 95 passing yards while collecting three interceptions off the junior signal caller. One of those turnovers came at a crucial point.

With his team down 10-0, Lambert drove the Gators offense deep into Tulane territory, inside the Wave 5-yard line, putting his team in position to get back into the ball game. However, facing a 2nd and goal, his pass attempt to WR Jimmie Johnson would get picked off by Green Wave junior CB Josh Warren and returned 104 yards for a touchdown that made the score 17-0. Warren, a junior college transfer who is in his first season with the Wave, broke an NCAA record for the longest interception return, breaking a record that was coincidentally broken against Tulane by South Carolina CB Ryan Dunn in the 2018 SEC Championship Game.

"That was only Josh's second pick this year and his first touchdown; he had been getting close so I was pumped to see him finally get him one," said Tulane defensive coordinator Steve Ellis of the team's #3 corner.

Coleman's 37-yard field goal as the second quarter clock expired increased the Wave's lead to their eventual 20-0 victory margin.

Tulane had no answer for Florida star DE David Ingraham as he recorded a whopping 4 sacks on the evening.
In the second half, Tulane attempted to put Florida (10-3, 6-3) away and took several deep shots to WR Ryan Jean, however the Gators defense proved to be up to the task of doing their part to give themselves a chance. Allen was sacked a total of 6 times on the evening, 4 of which were by Florida DE David Ingraham, while Jean was held to just 1 reception on the night, which came in the first quarter on a screen pass.

"If there is one thing to be disappointed in, its the offensive performance in the second half," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy of his offense, which finished just 1 of 10 on third downs during the game.

"Sure we played somewhat conservative in the second half, in the fourth quarter in particular. But we had some major protection issues and we just did not put our foots on their throats to put the game away the way we had hoped. 20 points looks nice, but we only scored a single touchdown today and didn't convert a third down until the final drive of the game when they had all but given up."

                That would not matter however.

In the fourth quarter, following a fumble by Johnson III that was recovered by Florida CB Steven Jamison in Wave territory, Tulane's defense stepped up one last time. CB Nate Allen's interception gave Tulane the ball right back with 4:38 remaining. Florida would never see the football again, as Johnson III and FB Eric Harrell would pick up first down after first down on the ground on what turned out to be a 15-play drive to run out the remainder of the clock.

Tulane (11-2, 9-0) will now wait to find out its bowl opponent, as they get set to host the Allstate Sugar Bowl at their Mercedes-Benz Superdome home stadium for the second time in the past three seasons. The last time they hosted the Sugar Bowl, they scored 22 unanswered fourth quarter points to defeat West Virginia 28-17 in 2019. The team is disappointed that it is not in national championship contention, however Geezy is not taking for granted the run of conference dominance by his team.

"This is SEC championship #6, and let me tell you, they have not come easy and a run of this nature has required a lot of luck," said Geezy.

"There were a couple of seasons in the early going where we needed wins by other teams in the final weekend in order to get into the championship game. There were years where we barely won close regular season games to get in. There were years where we played close games here in Atlanta. And of course this year, if we don't beat Alabama by a field goal in triple overtime, we aren't here today.

"I'm very proud of our group and even though we didn't achieve our ultimate goal this season of winning it all, we have to recognize that winning the SEC is still a heck of an accomplishment and anytime you do that, it should be considered a successful season."

Following the game's final whistle, QB Bryce Allen and MLB Brandon Browning celebrate as the Green Wave won their 6th SEC crown under Geezy.

Pyrotechnics lit up the Georgia Dome as Tulane ran onto the field in the pregame.

Florida CB Jonathan Silva's interception on the game's second play put an early end to Tulane's opening possession.

Covered mostly by Silva all night, WR Ryan Jean had a very quiet outing as his only reception was this 60-yarder which came on a receiver screen in the first quarter.

FS Lee Palmer jumps on the back of his dorm roommate Josh Warren following the latter's 104-yard interception return touchdown in the second quarter.

S/LB Nate McCoy's one-handed interception in the second half put an end to a rare Florida drive that got past midfield.

Green Wave MLB Brandon Browner finished with 8 tackles along with this second half sack of QB Johnny Lambert.

The Gators harrassed QB Bryce Allen all game long to the tune of 6 sacks as a team. Here DE David Ingraham celebrates DT Andy Holly's second sack of the evening.

CB Nate Hall's interception with just over 4 minutes remaining put his team in position to run out the clock.

Thanks brother...Shutouts are very rare for me so I was pretty pumped up about this win.

This Central Michigan storyline is very intriguing. I hope they knock them off. Those guys have built up a pretty nice team and have a top 10 recruiting class coming in next season.

I wonder what the Men of Troy are going to do to Penn State after getting robbed. Not sure how the game thought Oregon was more worthy of the title, but in the end I hope Central Michigan puts forward an entertaining effort. Are you going to watch the game or just sim it?

Good luck against West Virginia. Like you said, they could have been in the National Championship themselves so you know they have a solid team. Hopefully they put up more of a fight than Florida did lol. With the season coming to an end, I'm curious - what's your favorite part of the season? Opening Week, Bowl Week, or the Off-Season?

Haha, yeah. I've been too lazy to go back and look, but I'm guessing that he was probably an ATH recruit that they moved there. He is slow for a DB, so his natural position probably was LB or DE or perhaps TE.

Yeah I must say I was somewhat disappointed in the game's logic there. USC and Oregon finished with the same # of points in the final BCS standings (damn, forgot to post those). No way they'd let something like that happen in real life when the Trojans a.) won the conference, and most importantly, b.) defeated Oregon head-to-head.

As for the NC game - I'll probably just sim it. I haven't watched a CPU-CPU game in a long time, don't really have the time to do so these days. I used to do it all the time back in my days of being single with no kids.

I'd say the recruiting/team building part is my favorite, both in-season and in the off-season. I love the aspect of recruiting guys in the later versions of NCAA - the way it is done really added a lot of personality to the players you recruit. I only play one game per week these days, and I've come to enjoy all the in-between game stuff that I do - recruiting, practice mode, equipment editing for my team and the CPU's, etc.

Opening week is very fun as well, getting to open all your presents and play with your new toys for the first time. I am pumped to play with my new 4-star, 96+ speed RB Tony Tompkins next season. I can't wait to knock out this WVU game this upcoming weekend so that I can get on to next year.

Thanks for the replies and great feedback!
