Will We Ever See All-Star Weekend in EA Sports NHL?

I don't know about you, but I love the post-E3 phase leading up to the release of a future sports title. After waiting for the smallest bit of information, we're swamped with details that we analyze extensively over the following months. Interviews, pre-order bonuses and betas all contribute to the ever-rising levels of anticipation before the finished product finally arrives in our hands, and hopefully, it lives up to the hype. Yeah, it's all an elaborate marketing technique, but it's a lot of fun all the same.

The frustrating part about a situation like this is not being able to get hands-on for ourselves, and that's why many of us channel that anticipation into something creative. When it comes to the NHL series, everyone has an opinion. Our NHL 17 wishlist articles and forum entries have been swamped with comments about what you'd like to see in this year's iteration, and the same thing happens on a yearly basis. Usually, these ideas are formed based on inaccuracies in the previous title's gameplay and game modes. There's a group of people who request the same things year-on-year, though, and the All-Star Weekend often falls into that category.

Personally, I don't really see a need for it. Maybe the All-Star game, but the skills competitions, in my opinion, would be pretty boring. There's just not enough fundamental control to make it exciting, and since everyone can do the exact same moves, there's not a lot of challenge.

The game itself could be fun, but I usually skip that anyhow, since it's kind of a meaningless game in real life.

I think something that would be cool would be something similar to how FIFA allows you to be selected for coaching national teams. It would be cool to be the GM or coach of a national team, and get asked to coach Team USA, or Team Canada, and then get to assemble your team, and select coaches who you think would work well with your players. This would require assistant and head coaches that had actual traits, but it could be a ton of fun.

Do you get Team USA and go for a grinding team, or maybe select faster players from the younger crop and try to win that way?

2K have done a good job incorporating the All-Star Weekend in their NBA game so there's no reason why we can't see it implemented in some form in the NHL series.

The all star weekend has kind of been included in the past.

NHL 97 for Sega Genesis was a forgettable game because NHL 97 for Playstation was the first EA NHL to be in a 3D environment.

However one unique feature that Genesis had that year was the skills competition. I can't remember which events were included. Definitely skating through cones, hardest shot, and i think target shooting.

          NHL 97 was pure garbage!
By far the worst edition of EA hockey ever.

I would enjoy it for immersion purposes, especially in BAP. Imagine getting selected for the all-star game and skating the stick handling drill or shooting accuracy. Could be fun.
