Love the idea of hiring a former player bro, might have to borrow that idea for my dynasty down the road haha. Tough losing a superstar like Jean but I'm sure you will find another player of his caliber. It is the golden age after all.

Hiring a former player sounds familiar..Seriously I like the hire. I think it definitely adds to the storyline and going back to an old Offense that brought some great success. This will something I keep a look out on to see how hit plays out to see if Byrd can use this time to maybe be come a great coach in his own right

Hoping I get to follow this upcoming season a little closer rather than just commenting at the end.

I have to ask though -- how for are you usually dropping back that you managed to have the QB average around -40 yards rushing per game? I know you aren't using the option or anything to get them many positive yards, but seems like quite a few games where Allen was losing around 10 yards per "rush" attempt.
Mattrd - Great to hear from you man and glad to see you back around the board again. I appreciate all the excellent feedback and the compliments.

In regards to our QB's rushing average - I'd say the # is greatly skewed. He averaged -33 per game, getting sacked at about a clip of 3.3 times per game. That comes out to about 10 yards lost per sack and you're right, I don't do much running with him.

Those numbers got very skewed in the West Virginia finale, with him being sacked 8 times and finishing with a stat line of 9 carries for -110, which was a huge anomaly aided by a couple of bad sacks I took in which I was trying to make something out of nothing by running backwards and lost like 20+ yards. If you remove that one game, his numbers look much more acceptable for a dropback passer that rarely runs.

This was another reason for the playbook change - the playbook seemed very short on quick pass plays that can get the ball out of the QB's hands quickly, thus resulting in me having to drop back far and take huge sacks.

All that said, look for Allen to post a few positive running yard games moving forward with Curtis Byrd now "coaching" him on how to scramble when nothing is there. Allen isn't SUPER slow; he posts a respectable 74spd which is pretty decent for a QB.

This project just has so much history, it is absolutely incredible. I cannot wait to someday be a similar point. And don't think I missed that Byrd is now married to Brandi, I think this is the first mention we have had of that? Do you keep track of the storylines, separately than the thread? I know I myself have multiple spreadsheets and notepads where I keep track of storylines and stats and way more than what i report and pull from when writing. Loving this.
Yeah I am pretty hyped up about returning to that playbook; I miss a lot of the plays and formations that are in it. Going to the South Carolina playbook was a nice change of pace for a couple of seasons, just to have some variety, but I am very excited to get back to our Saints roots with a handful of college concepts sprinkled in.

Glad you enjoy the trips down memory lane. This is indeed the first mention of Curtis and Brandi. I threw that in there hoping you'd catch that. With this now in year 13, as you know, I try to make a point of making sure all that history has some meaning to the present and doesn't just disappear into oblivion.

I don't keep separate notes or storylines actually; I just do it all from memory and periodically come up with story ideas on the fly. I think just from watching a lot of TV, I've picked up on how writers create storyline webs and I try to incorporate that here. For instance, I'm currently watching Game of Thrones, and that's a prime hallmark of that show.

Thanks man...I made the decision to go back to the Saints/Syracuse playbook and thought hard about who I wanted that O.C. "figurehead" to be and what person would be represent best what it is I want to do on offense. After much thought, I realized that "hey, this is friggin year 13...a lot of my old players are grown men now," and I went from there and decided to go with the 4-year starting QB that was there from the beginning yet wasn't rated quite good enough to be an NFL prospect - a perfect fit for a player turned coach storyline.

I don't think we can replace a guy like Jean - and that's why I found it important to find a more methodical type of offense that can put together sustained drives. Jean's touches will be distributed pretty evenly through several different players. I'm excited to get back to the fun of distributing touches, Sean Payton-style, rather than having an offense focused so heavily on one particular receiver.

Thanks GSU. I am looking forward to it also.

As I was telling Lopaka, Byrd was a fun QB to use but based on rating, he wasn't an NFL QB candidate, so he's exactly the type of player that would turn to coaching. 13 years is a long time, and a lot of my former players are now hitting their 30s, so naturally a couple of them need to start re-blending into the storyline.

And I am going to be taking this Curtis Byrd thing seriously. I am going to try my best to re-create some of the elements he brought to the table as a player and our style of play from that time period - We'll still throw the ball a good bit, but we will sprinkle in a good bit of zone read and option concepts and I will also be trying to figure out how to run with Allen a little more while also taking full advantage of the much greater inventory of power rushing formations with our RB Buck Johnson III now in his senior year.

I can't wait to hit up practice mode and see how it all comes together!

Appreciate all the responses and compliments from everyone...As you can tell, I really enjoy football off-season news; I'm the same way in real life and enjoy it just as much, if not more than the games themselves.

Tulane | 2-year football contract with Miami finalized
          Fri, 28 Jan 2022 08:16:09 -0700

          report courtesy Britt McHenry, ESPN.com

Britt McHenry of ESPN.com reports that Tulane University and the University of Miami have agreed to a 2-year contract for its football teams to face each other each of the next two seasons. The deal will begin starting this upcoming season, with Tulane traveling to South Beach in 2022. The Hurricanes will in-turn travel to the Big Easy to play the Green Wave at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in 2023.

Former Green Wave SS Eric Bryant collected 2 of his team's 7 sacks the last time Tulane faced off with Miami, six years ago.

The two teams last met on the gridiron during the 2016 season. Led by then-true freshman QB Jamie Manning's 215-yard 3 touchdown performance, the then-#17 ranked Wave stormed out to a 20-3 halftime lead before prevailing 27-13 at then-#10 Miami in game 2 of a season which culminated with the school's first ever national championship.

The Hurricanes' last trip to the Superdome to face the Green Wave came all the way back in 1978, a game the Wave won 20-16.

The all-time series record between the two teams is 6-6-1.

Tulane's non-conference slate for next season is now completed, and it has a distinct "ACC flavor" - along with their trip to Miami, they will travel to face Florida St. and they will get the opportunity to avenge last season's stunning 28-3 loss to Virginia Tech when they host the Hokies at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The team will close out the year versus former Conference USA foe Southern Miss, who defeated the Green Wave 35-28 last season in their annual rivalry game matchup.

All exact dates and times are TBD and will be released later this off-season.

Recruiting | Blue chip DE Jackson narrows list
          Fri, 28 Jan 2022 08:16:09 -0700
Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that blue chip DE Allen Jackson (6-7, 248, 4.74 40 time, #1 rated DE) has narrowed his list of school choices down to Alabama, Texas, and Tulane ahead of next Wednesday's National Signing Day. The Eagles Pass, Texas native will visit with Tulane officials this weekend, according to Jewell's sources. It is believed that Tulane holds a slim lead over Texas for Jackson's services, according to Jackson family sources.

With starting defensive ends Paul Byrd and Roy Williams departing, both three year starters, the team is hoping Jackson can fill one of the voids on the Wave defensive front.

Recruiting | 4-star RB Monroe narrows list
          Fri, 28 Jan 2022 08:16:09 -0700
Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that 4-star RB Deuce Monroe (5-8, 175, 4.32 40 time, #6 rated RB) has narrowed his list of school choices down to Alabama, Georgia Tech, and Tulane ahead of next Wednesday's National Signing Day. The Boaz, Alabama native will visit with Tulane officials this weekend, according to Jewel's sources, and it is believed that Alabama currently holds a firm lead for his services.

If he signs with the Green Wave, the diminutive speed back would join 4-star RB Tony Tompkins, who committed to Tulane in the fall, as a candidate to see immediate playing time behind returning senior starting RB Buck Johnson III and/or replace graduated star KR/PR Joel Ryan on special teams.

Recruiting | Blue chip DT Hollis narrows list
          Fri, 28 Jan 2022 08:16:09 -0700
Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that blue chip DT Tyrone Hollis (6-4, 275, 5.04 40 time, #1 rated DT) has narrowed his list of school choices down to LSU, Ohio St., and Tulane ahead of next Wednesday's National Signing Day. The Village St. George, Texas native will visit with Tulane officials this weekend, according to Jewel's sources. Jewell's sources indicate that Green Wave rival LSU is the current favorite to land Hollis.

The 3-technique defensive tackle would be a perfect candidate to fill the void left by starting DT Aaron Jacobs' departure.

            lots to get to here.

great finish to the season with the OT win over WVU, those games are always a blast.

going to be very hard to replace those players that are leaving especially with Jean and Hall going early. that should make for a fun year next season

love the slidehows, been trying to incorporate that for a while and never thought of a .gif as the way, stealing that!

love the OC changes and good idea bringing back a familiar name from the past.

            love the miami series

looks like some nice recruits in the mix, how do you get those pictures of them?

The hiring of Byrd flashed back so many sweet memories I have taken from this dynasty report having been following since day one. I also, love, love the fact that you are returning to a playbook that worked so well in the past.

                  Appreciate the compliments my friend....

These prospect mugshots were pics that I captured from the old EA Teambuilder site for NCAA '11 back when this game first came out. Between what I had already and what Cheese2121 gave to me from his archives, I have most of the faces backed up on photobucket.

Feel free to borrow whatever you need and thanks for checking in as always!

The defensive end Allen Jackson is my #1 target for sure. He looks like a stud and I think he'd start from day 1, replacing either of my two graduated DEs. He really looks like he could be a great one, on paper.

Deuce Monroe is also intriguing. I probably would not have gone for a running back since I already have a 4-star RB signed from in-season (Tony Tompkins), but once I saw that awesome first name of his along with his intriguing small stature, I figured I absolutely had to give it a shot.

I have a busy weekend ahead, but I'll be trying to get in a couple more recruiting weeks in here at some point when I get some downtime.

Appreciate it Tearz. As I told someone earlier, it just felt like the perfect time to do something like that with an old player. These "kids" I recruited in the beginning of this dynasty are all grown men in their 30s now and Byrd was a good college QB but not NFL material; he seemed like just the type of guy that would get into coaching.

This is definitely been the most rewarding dynasty experience I have ever had. Going into year 13, I have now more than doubled the length of any other dynasty I have ever done. I can't tell you enough how much I am enjoying this team.

Loving the update. Those recruits look really good. I like Allen and have him penciled as a day one starter for you. Deuce, aside from having an awesome name, looks to fit the mold of your do it all backs that would flourish in the return to the old system. How does he look as a pass catcher?

Also loving the schedule. As an ACC man, you know this makes me happy!

I can't tell you enough how much fun this dynasty has been from the start; it is all about just finding that perfect team that fits you and Tulane has been that for me.

Thanks Cheese...Jackson is the guy I am most excited about. I hope we can hold onto this slight edge we have for his services because he'd be a perfect "plug and play" fit for us at left defensive end. He has B ratings across the board.

For a running back, Deuce looks to be pretty good as a pass catcher...He has a D+ CTH rating and D RTE rating, which sounds bad but a quick scan of the other RB prospects shows that it doesn't get a whole lot better than that for that position. I am salivating at the thought of having him, Tony Tompkins, and Buck Johnson III all together on the same squad. Interestingly, his home-state Alabama Crimson Tide holds the lead for his services but they have yet to offer a scholarship to him.

As for the ACC Schedule, its weird but it just sort of happened that way. I was "locked in" to contracts with VT and FSU and for some reason I just got the itch to play against the U again for some reason. I am excited for the trip to Tallahassee (which is probably my favorite atmosphere in the game). And I am also pumped up to avenge my blowout loss to your Hokies last season.

                        Thanks as always fellas!

                          Sun, 30 Jan 2022 08:44:09 -0700
Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that 4-star MLB Mario Young (5-10, 238, 4.64 40-time, #6 rated MLB), who soft-committed to LSU in the fall, has changed his mind and will sign with Tulane on Wednesday's National Signing Day. Young, from New Orleans, Louisiana, has decided to stay close to home rather than make the trip down I-10 to play in Baton Rouge, according to family sources.

Young becomes the second 4-star linebacker prospect this year to renege on a soft verbal to LSU and elect to sign with Tulane, joining MLB Sean Williams (5-10, 245, 4.52 40-time, #9 rated MLB), who committed to the Green Wave after witnessing their 35-7 win over LSU during their contest last year at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for his official visit. 4-star LB Chuckie Coley (6-2, 218, 4.52 40 time, #11 rated LB), from Village St. George, Louisiana, which is right outside of Baton Rouge, also committed to Tulane earlier this fall after strong consideration of LSU.

Recruiting | 3-star OLB Bonner spurns LSU for Tulane

Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that 3-star OLB Thomais Bonner (6-3, 240, 4.44 40-time, #99 rated OLB), who soft-committed to LSU in the fall, has changed his mind and will sign with Tulane on Wednesday's National Signing Day. Bonner, from Port Allen, Louisiana, believes he has a better chance to play right away on special teams by signing with Tulane instead of their arch-rival Tigers.

Bonner is a candidate to immediately be placed atop the depth chart on the team's kick and punt coverage units, though him being redshirted is also a possibility.

Recruiting | Blue chip DT Hollis commits to LSU
                          Sun, 30 Jan 2022 08:56:09 -0700
Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that blue chip DT Tyrone Hollis (6-4, 275, 5.04 40 time, #1 rated DT) has committed to LSU, electing the Tigers over both Tulane and Ohio St.

The dominant big man from Village St. George, Louisiana, which is located just outside of Baton Rouge, is expected to immediately plug into the Tigers' defensive tackle rotation next fall and will likely start by his sophomore season.

Hollis is a high school teammate of 4-star LB Chuckie Coley (6-2, 218, 4.52 40 time, #11 rated LB), who signed with LSU arch-rival Tulane in the fall.

Nice job snagging the two linebacker recruits and even better that you were able to pull them from LSU. Kids know who the best team in the state to play with is.

Hurts to lose Hollis. He is going to be a force to put up with for the next 3-4 years. It will be interesting to see the two former high school teammates square off.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for getting to watch Deuce getting loose in a Tulane uniform.

Your linebacker group is going to be beastly! Sorry you lost out on Hollis though, he seems like an animal

As others have said great pick ups on the LBs. Hollis on the other hand make him regret the choice he made.
