Still keeping my fingers crossed for getting to watch Deuce getting loose in a Tulane uniform.
I really wanted Hollis but we should be more than adequate at DT after taking in a nice haul of four 4-star DTs last year in recruiting.

LSU is going to be nice up front though. I didn't get to highlight it, but they just snagged the second of three available blue chip DTs in this past recruting week simulation - Rodney Justice, who was another guy I was going after. So they're pretty set in the interior for a while and should make for some nice matchups down the road. This was really a great year for Louisiana prospects after a few down years.

    As for Deuce Monroe:

Thanks guys...It is going to be pretty neat in a couple of years to be able to have a potential linebacker trio of all Louisiana guys. I don't know if I have ever had an entire position group from our home state. I'll have to come up with a clever nickname for those three if they ever get to start together.

      4-star RB Deuce Monroe

TULANE LANDS BIG OFF-SEASON PRIZE AS ALABAMA RB MONROE ANNOUNCES HE WILL SIGN WITH GREEN WAVE ON NATIONAL SIGNING DAY
5-8 175 pound speed back tailor-made for new O.C. Curtis Byrd's offense, will likely see the field immediately | 4-star RB was a high school track and field star before testing his speed on the gridiron in his senior year | Monroe the second 4-star running back to commit to Green Wave this year, joining Florida high school recruit Tony Tompkins

      Report by Eve Jewell, TulaneInsider.com

The Tulane Green Wave football squad got a dose of great news Monday morning as Boaz, Alabama 4-star RB Deuce Monroe announced via Twitter that he has committed to join the Green Wave and will sign with the school on Wednesday's National Signing Day. The 5-8 175 pound speed demon is rated as the nation's #6 running back prospect and is the 47th overall ranked prospect, according to the ESPN150 list. Monroe was said to be heavily pursued by Alabama, Georgia Tech, and USC, but decided to commit to Tulane following his in-house visit with Green Wave officials.

According to team sources, Wave head coach D. Geezy was joined by new offensive coordinator Curtis Byrd as well as running backs coach Joey Roberts for the visit at Monroe's home and the Boaz High School track and field star came away more than impressed.

After coming over from the track team, the 5-8 175 pound Monroe played one season of football for the Boaz Pirates, gaining over 2,500 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns while quickly ascending up the high school recruiting rankings.

"They put it all on the table and had a great presentation and laid out a great plan. It was much different than all the other visits I have had during this process," said Monroe via phone conversation with TulaneInsider.com.

"They say they see me running the ball, catching the ball, returning the ball, and really lining up all over the place. I also really think playing on that dome turf will suit my skill set the best," the Alabama state 100-meter champion added.

Monroe, who runs a 4.32 40 yard dash, is th second 4-star running back signed by Tulane for this upcoming fall campaign, joining RB Tony Tompkins, who runs a 4.30 40 yard dash and committed to Tulane in week 6 of this past regular season. The two speedy backs are expected to compete for playing time behind returning senior starting RB Buck Johnson III and both could likely see immediate playing time as return men.

The Tulane coaching staff envisions all three players being prime factors this upcoming fall, as under their new first year coordinator Byrd, the team intends to place a greater emphasis on the running game as well as a greater emphasis on the short passing game. Monroe displayed a knack for the screen pass game during his only season of high school football while also being a very good route runner from the slot receiver position and, like Tompkins, has drawn comparisons to former Wave Heisman Trophy winning RB Reggie Moore.

"I just want to come in and show what I can do," said Monroe.

"A lot of players, especially at my position, would love to one day be like Reggie and be winning Heismans and Super Bowls and MVPs; I'm not going to even put that kind of pressure on myself. I am just going to go to New Orleans and do what I can do and help my team win."

Nice pickup with Monroe. Your backfield is set for the next few seasons with both those 4 star backs.

Thanks guys...I cannot explain just how estatic I am about this pickup.

Just for some in-game background info on it: The process started with him down to his top 8 teams and our team not on the list, however he had one of those purple diamonds next to his mugshot.

I added him to my board and boom, we were in the top 5 and the rest is history. Deuce was meant to play for Tulane and in the dome - it was his destiny and he's a perfect fit for what we want to do offensively. I am very pumped up to get his career going!

The only problem is that I promised Tony Tompkins, my other 4-star RB recruit, that he'd make the Freshman All-American Team, but Deuce is clearly the more superior prospect. So that may bring some drama to the locker room, so to speak. LOL

So cool to have all the storylines in this. Having a player come back to coach, specifically, has always been a dynasty dream for me. Sadly I never got that far.

Loving the offseason so far. Like you, that's by far my favorite part of the game ... deuce and thompkins should add a ton of versatility in your backfield for the next few years. And Buck could make some noise in his final year?

Looks like Tompkins will be returning kicks if he wants to be kept happy (#AutomaticAllAmerican). Then again, I've got no qualms seeing how this plays out.

Deuce getting loose! You know I am beyond words ecstatic for this pickup. I always have a soft spot in my heart for running backs. He looks like a reincarnation of Darren Sproles and I envision him fitting a similar role. It will be interesting to see how you plan to utilize that three headed rushing attack especially with the promises made to Tompkins. I am putting the horse way ahead of the cart, but I do worry about Tompkins transferring away if he feels the backfield is too crowded.

Also nice reference to Joey Roberts another solid blast from the past. I believe this is also the first mention of him. The storylines are just fantastic my friend.

Thanks beast10; I appreciate the kind words.

The vision I have is for Buck Johnson III to carry the load this year on the ground, ideally getting between 18 and 25 carries a game. I really want to get back to having a strong ground game. Deuce appears to be the superior prospect between he and Tompkins, and he should end up getting 8 to 10 carries and 5+ receptions per game.

Tompkins will see the field, but sadly it appears he may be the odd man out from the main rotation for his freshman season. I will probably add him in on a few formation subs. My shotgun split back formation specifically will likely feature both he and Deuce.

I was thinking the same thing. It'll be interesting to see how these two guys' return ratings look. As I said the in post above, Deuce appears to be the superior prospect and may be too important to the offense to expose him to special teams. Maybe Tompkins will be the main return guy and I will use Deuce back there only if I am in a bind, trailing.

Haha...Nothing slips past you. That is indeed the first mention of Joey Roberts since he graduated some 8 years ago or so. For some reason, I've sort of envisioned him as our RBs coach for the past couple of seasons but didn't want to bog down the report with a position coach hiring story, so I decided to just slip that in. I honestly didn't think anyone would pick up on it, but I should have known better.

Funny you mention Sproles...he's exactly who I envisioned when seeing him in the recruiting pool. I considered giving him #43 like Sproles, but with a name like Deuce, I just HAVE to give him #22.
